Abstract:We study algebraic discrete valuations dominating normal local domains of dimension two. We construct a family of examples to show that the Hilbert–Samuel function of the associated graded ring of the valuation can fail to be asymptotically of the form: quasi-polynomial plus a bounded function. We also show that the associated multiplicity can be irrational, or even transcendental.

Abstract:In this article, we investigate the $p$-adic valuation $\nu_p$ of quantities such as the factorial $n!$, the hyperfactorial $H(n)$ or the superfactorial $\mathrm{sf}(n)$. In particular, we obtain simple bounds (both upper and lower) for $\nu_p$, using the Legendre-de Polignac formula. Other iterated quantities such as the Berezin function, are also considered. Beyond their recreational character, such quantities, often related to very large numbers, may find applications for cryptography purposes. Finally, lower and upper bounds for the $p$-adic valuation of Stirling numbers of the first kind and Catalan numbers are briefly discussed.

Abstract:We present closed forms for several functions that are fundamental in number theory and we explain the method used to obtain them. Concretely, we find formulas for the p-adic valuation, the number-of-divisors function, the sum-of-divisors function, Euler's totient function, the modular inverse, the integer part of the root, the integer part of the logarithm, the multiplicative order and the discrete logarithm. Although these are very complicated, they only involve elementary operations, and to our knowledge no other closed form of this kind is known for the aforementioned functions.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a normalized newform of weight 2 on $\Gamma_0(N)$ whose coefficients lie in $\mathbb{Q}$ and let $\chi_M$ be a primitive quadratic Dirichlet character with conductor $M$. In this paper, under mild assumptions on $M$, we give a sharp lower bound of the 2-adic valuation of the algebraic central $L$-value $L(f, \chi_M, 1)$ and evaluate the 2-adic valuation for an infinite number of $M$.

Abstract:$L-$series attached to two classical families of elliptic curves with complex multiplications are studied over number fields, formulae for their special values at $s=1, $ bound of the values, and criterion of reaching the bound are given. Let $ E_1: y^{2}=x^{3}-D_1 x $ be elliptic curves over the Gaussian field $K=\Q(\sqrt{-1}), $ with $ D_1 =\pi_{1} ... \pi_{n} $ or $ D_1 =\pi_{1} ^{2}... \pi_{r} ^{2} \pi_{r+1} ... \pi_{n}$, where $\pi_{1}, ..., \pi_{n}$ are distinct primes in $K$. A formula for special values of Hecke $L-$series attached to such curves expressed by Weierstrass $\wp-$function are given; a lower bound of 2-adic valuations of these values of Hecke $L-$series as well as a criterion for reaching these bounds are obtained. Furthermore, let $ E_{2}: y^{2}=x^{3}-2^{4}3^{3}D_2^{2} $ be elliptic curves over the quadratic field $ \Q(\sqrt{-3}) $ with $ D_2 =\pi_{1} ... \pi_{n}, $ where $\pi_{1}, ..., \pi_{n}$ are distinct primes of $\Q(\sqrt{-3})$, similar results as above but for $3-adic$ valuation are also obtained. These results are consistent with the predictions of the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer, and develop some results in recent literature for more special case and for $2-adic$ valuation.

We show that $\nu_p(\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\frac{\binom{2k}k}{m^k})$ and $\nu_p(\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\binom{n-1}{k}(-1)^k\frac{\binom{2k}k}{m^k})$ are at least $\nu_p(n)$, where $\nu_p(x)$ denotes the $p$-adic valuation of $x$. Furthermore, if $p>3$ then $$n^{-1}\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\frac{\bi{2k}k}{m^k}=\frac{\binom{2n-1}{n-1}}{4^{n-1}} (mod p^{\nu_p(m-4)})$$ and $$n^{-1}\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\binom{n-1}{k}(-1)^k\frac{\binom{2k}k}{m^k}=\frac{C_{n-1}}{4^{n-1}} (mod p^{\nu_p(m-4)}),$$ where $C_k$ denotes the Catalan number $\binom{2k}{k}/(k+1)$. This implies several conjectures of Guo and Zeng [GZ]. Abstract:Recently, Merca and Schmidt found some decompositions for the partition function $p(n)$ in terms of the classical Möbius function as well as Euler's totient. In this paper, we define a counting function $T_k^r(m)$ on the set of $n$-color partitions of $m$ for given positive integers $k, r$ and relate the function with the $n$-color partition function and other well-known arithmetic functions like the Möbius function, Liouville function, etc. and their divisor sums. Furthermore, we use a counting method of Erdös to obtain some counting theorems for $n$-color partitions that are analogous to those found by Andrews and Deutsch for the partition function.

Abstract:For a natural number n, let M(n) denote the maximum exponent of any prime power dividing n, and let m(n) denote the minimum exponent of any prime power dividing n. We study the second moments of these arithmetic functions and establish their limiting distributions. We introduce a new discrete probabilistic distribution dependent on a function f taking values in [0,1], study its first two moments, and provide examples of several arithmetic functions satisfying such distribution as their limiting behavior.

Abstract:Let $\Pi_n$ denote the set of all set partitions of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$. We consider two subsets of $\Pi_n$, one connected to rook theory and one associated with symmetric functions in noncommuting variables. Let ${\cal E}_n\subseteq\Pi_n$ be the subset of all partitions corresponding to an extendable rook (placement) on the upper-triangular board, ${\cal T}_{n-1}$. Given $\pi\in\Pi_m$ and $\sigma\in\Pi_n$, define their slash product to be $\pi|\sigma=\pi\cup(\sigma+m)\in\Pi_{m+n}$ where $\sigma+m$ is the partition obtained by adding $m$ to every element of every block of $\sigma$. Call $\tau$ atomic if it can not be written as a nontrivial slash product and let ${\cal A}_n\subseteq\Pi_n$ denote the subset of atomic partitions. Atomic partitions were first defined by Bergeron, Hohlweg, Rosas, and Zabrocki during their study of $NCSym$, the symmetric functions in noncommuting variables. We show that, despite their very different definitions, ${\cal E}_n={\cal A}_n$ for all $n\ge0$. Furthermore, we put an algebra structure on the formal vector space generated by all rook placements on upper triangular boards which makes it isomorphic to $NCSym$. We end with some remarks.
On Popoviciu type tormulas for generalized restricted partition function

Abstract:Suppose that $a_1(n),a_2(n),...,a_s(n),m(n)$ are integer-valued polynomials in $n$ with positive leading coefficients. This paper presents Popoviciu type formulas for the generalized restricted partition function $$p_{A(n)}(m(n)):=#\{(x_1,...,x_s)\in \mathbb{Z}^{s}: all x_j\geqslant 0, x_1a_1(n)+...+x_sa_s(n)=m(n) \}$$ when $s=2$ or 3. In either case, the formula implies that the function is an integer-valued quasi-polynomial. The main result is proved by a reciprocity law for a class of fractional part sums and the theory of generalized Euclidean division.

Abstract:Given relatively prime positive integers, $a_1,\ldots,a_n$, the Frobenius number is the largest integer with no representations of the form $a_1x_1+\cdots+a_nx_n$ with nonnegative integers $x_i$. This classical value has recently been generalized: given a nonnegative integer $k$, what is the largest integer with at most $k$ such representations? Other classical values can be generalized too: for example, how many nonnegative integers are representable in at most $k$ ways? For sufficiently large $k$, we give formulas for these values by understanding the level sets of the restricted partition function (the function $f(t)$ giving the number of representations of $t$). Furthermore, we give the full asymptotics of all of these values, as well as reprove formulas for some special cases (such as the $n=2$ case and a certain extremal family from the literature). Finally, we obtain the first two leading terms of the restricted partition function as a so-called quasi-polynomial.

Abstract:We give manifestly positive Andrews-Gordon type series for the level 3 standard modules of the affine Lie algebra of type $A^{(1)}_2$. We also give corresponding bipartition identities, which have representation theoretic interpretations via the vertex operators. Our proof is based on the Borodin product formula, the Corteel-Welsh recursion for the cylindric partitions, a $q$-version of Sister Celine's technique and a generalization of Andrews' partition ideals by finite automata due to Takigiku and the author.
