Abstract:Hecke-type double sums play a crucial role in proving many identities related to mock theta functions given by Ramanujan. In the literature, the Bailey pair machinery is an efficient tool to derive Hecke-type double sums for mock theta functions. In this paper, by using some Bailey pairs and conjugate Bailey pairs, and then applying the Bailey transform, we establish some trivariate identities which imply the Hecke-type double sums for some classical mock theta functions of orders 3, 6, and 10. Meanwhile, we generalize a bivariate Hecke-type identity due to Garvan.

Abstract:Lucy Slater used Bailey's $_6\psi_6$ summation formula to derive the Bailey pairs she used to construct her famous list of 130 identities of the Rogers-Ramanujan type. In the present paper we apply the same techniques to Chu's $_{10}\psi_{10}$ generalization of Bailey's formula to produce quite general Bailey pairs. Slater's Bailey pairs are then recovered as special limiting cases of these more general pairs. In re-examining Slater's work, we find that her Bailey pairs are, for the most part, special cases of more general Bailey pairs containing one or more free parameters. Further, we also find new general Bailey pairs (containing one or more free parameters) which are also implied by the $_6\psi_6$ summation formula. Slater used the Jacobi triple product identity (sometimes coupled with the quintuple product identity) to derive her infinite products. Here we also use other summation formulae (including special cases of the $_6\psi_6$ summation formula and Jackson's $_6\phi_5$ summation formula) to derive some of our infinite products. We use the new Bailey pairs, and/or the summation methods mentioned above, to give new proofs of some general series-product identities due to Ramanujan, Andrews and others. We also derive a new general series-product identity, one which may be regarded as a partner to one of the Ramanujan identities. We also find new transformation formulae between basic hypergeometric series, new identities of Rogers-Ramanujan type, and new false theta series identities. Some of these latter are a kind of "hybrid" in that one side of the identity consists a basic hypergeometric series, while the other side is formed from a theta product multiplied by a false theta series. This type of identity appears to be new.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper we prove a conjecture of Hikami on the values of the radial limits of a family of $q$-hypergeometric false theta functions. Hikami conjectured that the radial limits are obtained by evaluating a truncated version of the series. He proved a special case of his conjecture by computing the Kashaev invariant of certain torus links in two different ways. We prove the full conjecture using Bailey pairs. In the second part of the paper we show how the framework of Bailey pairs leads to further results of this type.

Abstract:We show that the Bailey lattice can be extended to a bilateral version in just a few lines from the bilateral Bailey lemma, using a very simple lemma transforming bilateral Bailey pairs related to $a$ into bilateral Bailey pairs related to $a/q$. Using this lemma and similar ones, we give bilateral versions and simple proofs of other (new and known) Bailey lattices, among which a Bailey lattice of Warnaar and the inverses of Bailey lattices of Lovejoy. As consequences of our bilateral point of view, we derive new $m$-versions of the Andrews-Gordon identities, Bressoud's identities, a new companion to Bressoud's identities, and the Bressoud-Göllnitz-Gordon identities. Finally, we give a new elementary proof of another very general identity of Bressoud using one of our Bailey lattices.

Abstract:We investigate spt-crank-type functions arising from Bailey pairs. We recall four spt-type functions corresponding to the Bailey pairs $A1$, $A3$, $A5$, and $A7$ of Slater and given four new spt-type functions corresponding to Bailey pairs $C1$, $C5$, $E2$, and $E4$. Each of these functions can be thought of as a count on the number of appearances of the smallest part in certain integer partitions. We prove simple Ramanujan type congruences for these functions that are explained by a spt-crank-type function. The spt-crank-type functions are two variable $q$-series determined by a Bailey pair, that when $z=1$ reduce to the spt-type functions. We find the spt-crank-type functions to have interesting representations as either infinite products or as Hecke-Rogers-type double series. These series reduce nicely when $z$ is a certain root of unity and allow us to deduce the congruences. Additionally we find dissections when $z$ is a certain root of unity to give another proof of the congruences. Our double sum and product formulas require Bailey's Lemma and conjugate Bailey pairs. Our dissection formulas follow from Bailey's Lemma and dissections of known ranks and cranks.

Abstract:The $\mathrm{A}_2$ Bailey chain of Andrews, Schilling and the author is extended to a four-parameter $\mathrm{A}_2$ Bailey tree. As main application of this tree, we prove the Kanade-Russell conjecture for a three-parameter family of Rogers-Ramanujan-type identities related to the principal characters of the affine Lie algebra $\mathrm{A}_2^{(1)}$. Combined with known $q$-series results, this further implies an $\mathrm{A}_2^{(1)}$-analogue of the celebrated Andrews-Gordon $q$-series identities. We also use the $\mathrm{A}_2$ Bailey tree to prove a Rogers-Selberg-type identity for the characters of the principal subspaces of $\mathrm{A}_2^{(1)}$ indexed by arbitrary level-$k$ dominant integral weights $\lambda$. This generalises a result of Feigin, Feigin, Jimbo, Miwa and Mukhin for $\lambda=k\Lambda_0$.

Abstract:A generalized Bailey pair, which contains several special cases considered by Bailey (\emph{Proc. London Math. Soc. (2)}, 50 (1949), 421--435), is derived and used to find a number of new Rogers-Ramanujan type identities. Consideration of associated $q$-difference equations points to a connection with a mild extension of Gordon's combinatorial generalization of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities (\emph{Amer. J. Math.}, 83 (1961), 393--399). This, in turn, allows the formulation of natural combinatorial interpretations of many of the identities in Slater's list (\emph{Proc. London Math. Soc. (2)} 54 (1952), 147--167), as well as the new identities presented here. A list of 26 new double sum--product Rogers-Ramanujan type identities are included as an appendix.
