Abstract:In this paper, we study vanishing of Fourier coefficients of holomorphic $\eta$-quotients. We investigate examples of two different types: the first one involves integral weight CM newforms, while the second one involves half-integral weight $\eta$-quotients associated with sums of squares and Hurwitz class numbers.

Abstract:We give a list of $83$ holomorphic eta-quotients of integral weight. For each of them we give a simple closed formula for its Fourier coefficients $c(l)$ where $l\equiv1\bmod{m}$ with some fixed $m\mid24$. The proof involves Wohlfahrt's extension of Hecke operators and a dimension formula for spaces of modular forms of general multiplier system.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the signs changes of Fourier coefficients of infinite products of $q$-series of Rogers--Ramanujan type. In particular, we prove a conjecture made by Schlosser--Zhou pertaining to such sign changes for products of modulus $10$.

Abstract:We extend the axiomatization for detecting and quantifying sign changes of Meher and Murty to sequences of complex numbers. We further generalize this result when the sequence is comprised of the coefficients of an $L$-function. As immediate applications, we prove that there are sign changes in intervals within sequences of coefficients of GL(2) holomorphic cusp forms, GL(2) Maass forms, and GL(3) Maass forms. Building on previous works by the authors, we prove that there are sign changes in intervals within sequences of partial sums of coefficients of GL(2) holomorphic cusp forms and Maass forms.

Abstract:We continue a program of investigating the parity of the coefficients of eta-quotients, with the goal of elucidating the parity of the partition function. In this paper, we consider positive integer powers $t$ of the Dedekind eta-function. Previous work and conjectures suggest that arithmetic progressions in which the Fourier coefficients of these functions are even should be numerous. We explicitly identify infinite classes of such progressions modulo prime squares for several values of $t$, and we offer two broad conjectures concerning their existence in general.

Abstract:We consider a special subsequence of the Fourier coefficients of powers of the Dedekind $\eta$-function, analogous to the sequence $\delta_\ell := 24^{-1} \pmod{\ell}$ on which exceptional congruences of the partition function are supported. Therefrom we define a notion of density $D(r)$ for a normalized eta-power $\eta^r$ measuring the proportion of primes $\ell$ for which the order at infinity of $U_\ell (\eta^r)$ modulo 2 is maximal. We relate $D(r)$ to a notion of density measuring nonzero prime Fourier coefficients introduced by Bellaïche, and use this to completely classify the vanishing of and establish upper bounds for $D(r)$. Furthermore, for several infinite families of $\eta$ powers corresponding to dihedral/CM mod-2 modular forms in the sense of Nicholas-Serre and Bellaïche, we explicitly compute the densities $D$. We rely on Galois-theoretic techniques developed by Bellaïche in level 1 and extend these to level 9. En passant we take the opportunity to communicate proofs of two of Bellaïche's unpublished results on densities of mod-$2$ modular forms.

Abstract:Given a compact segment, $\beta$, of a cuspidal geodesic on the modular surface, we study the number of sign changes of cusp forms and Eisenstein series along $\beta$. We prove unconditionally a sharp lower bound for Eisenstein series along a full density set of spectral parameters. Conditioned on certain moment bounds, we extend this to all spectral parameters, and prove similar theorems for cusp forms. The arguments rely in part on the authors' mean square bounds [KKL24], and on removing the assumption of the Lindelöf hypothesis from recent work of Ki [Ki23].

Abstract:We prove that the Kloosterman sum $\text{Kl}(1,q)$ changes sign infinitely many times, as $q\rightarrow +\infty$ with at most two prime factors. As a consequence, our result is unconditional compared with Drappeau and Maynard's (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 2019), in which the existence of Laudau-Siegel zeros is required. Our arguments contain the Selberg sieve method, spectral theory and distribution of Kloosterman sums along with previous works by Fouvry, Matomäki, Michel, Sivak-Fischler, and Xi.

Abstract:We study the so-called sign involutions on twisted forms of abelian varieties, and show that such a sign involution exists if and only if the class in the Weil--Châtelet group is annihilated by two. If these equivalent conditions hold, we prove that the Picard scheme of the quotient is étale and contains no points of finite order. In dimension one, such quotients are Brauer--Severi curves, and we analyze the ensuing embeddings of the genus-one curve into twisted forms of Hirzebruch surfaces and weighted projective spaces.

In this paper, we are interested in the average behavior of the coefficients and on a primitive integral binary quadratic form with negative discriminant whose class number is 1, and we also provide the asymptotic formulae of these summatory functions. As an application, we also consider the number of sign changes of the sequences and on the same binary quadratic form in short intervals.

As a consequence, we determine the size, in terms of conductor of associated $L$-function, for the first sign change of Hecke eigenvalues indexed by the integers which are represented by $\mathcal{Q}$. This work is an improvement and generalisation of the previous results.

Abstract:We attempt to compute expressions in terms of the Dedekind eta function for all weight 2 new cusp forms with level up to 100, using methods of Allen et. al. In cases where no expression exists, we raise the level instead of the weight, meaning our eta quotients are always holomorphic. Of the forms we examine, we find expressions for all but 4. We also present methods to find expressions with relatively few terms, and how these expressions can be used to demonstrate zeroes of modular forms.
