Abstract:Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt (PBW) deformations of Artin-Schelter regular algebras are skew Calabi- Yau. We prove that the Nakayama automorphisms of such PBW deformations can be obtained from their homogenizations. Some Calabi-Yau properties are generalized without Koszul assumption. We also show that the Nakayama automorphisms of such PBW deformations control Hopf actions on them.

Abstract:Koszul and homogeneous Koszul algebras were defined by Priddy in \cite{Priddy1970}. There exist some relations between these algebras and the skew PBW extensions introduced in \cite{LezamaGallego}. In this paper we give conditions to guarantee that skew PBW extensions over fields are Koszul or homogeneous Koszul. We also show that a constant skew PBW extension of a field is a PBW deformation of its homogeneous version.

Abstract:Pre-Koszul and Koszul algebras were defined by Priddy. There exist some relations between these algebras and the skew PBW extensions defined. We have established conditions to guarantee that skew PBW extensions over fields it turns out homogeneous pre-Koszul or Koszul algebra. In this paper we complement these results defining graded skew PBW extensions and showing that if R is a finite presented Koszul K-algebra then every graded skew PBW extension of R is Koszul.

Abstract:In this work, multiplicities of zeros of skew polynomials are studied. Two distinct definitions are considered: First, $ a $ is said to be a zero of $ F $ of multiplicity $ r $ if $ (x-a)^r $ divides $ F $ on the right; second, $ a $ is said to be a zero of $ F $ of multiplicity $ r $ if some skew polynomial $ P = (x-a_r) \cdots (x-a_2) (x-a_1) $, having $ a_1 = a $ as its only right zero, divides $ F $ on the right. Neither of these two notions implies the other for general skew polynomials. We show that, in the first case, Lam and Leroy's concept of P-independence does not behave naturally, whereas a union theorem still holds. In contrast, we show that P-independence behaves naturally for the second notion of multiplicities. As a consequence, we provide extensions of classical commutative results to general skew polynomials. These include: (1) The upper bound on the number of (P-independent) zeros (counting multiplicities) of a skew polynomial by its degree, and (2) The equivalence of P-independence, Hermite interpolation and the invertibility of confluent Vandermonde matrices (for which we introduce skew polynomial Hasse derivatives).

Abstract:In this work, linearized multivariate skew polynomials over division rings are introduced. Such polynomials are right linear over the corresponding centralizer and generalize linearized polynomial rings over finite fields, group rings or differential polynomial rings. Their natural evaluation is connected to the remainder-based evaluation of free multivariate skew polynomials. It is shown that P-independent sets are those given by right linearly independent sets when partitioned into conjugacy classes. Hence finitely generated P-closed sets correspond to lists of finite-dimensional right vector spaces, extending Lam and Leroy's results on univariate skew polynomials. It is also shown that products of free multivariate skew polynomials translate into coordinate-wise compositions of linearized multivariate skew polynomials, which in turn translate into matrix products over the corresponding centralizers. Later, linearized multivariate Vandermonde matrices are introduced, which generalize multivariate Vandermonde, Moore and Wronskian matrices. The previous results explicitly give their ranks in general. P-Galois extensions of division rings are then introduced, which generalize classical (finite) Galois extensions. Three Galois-theoretic results are generalized to such extensions: Artin's theorem on extension degrees, the Galois correspondence and Hilbert's Theorem 90.

Abstract:Braces are generalizations of radical rings, introduced by Rump to study involutive non-degenerate set-theoretical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation (YBE). Skew braces were also recently introduced as a tool to study not necessarily involutive solutions. Roughly speaking, skew braces provide group-theoretical and ring-theoretical methods to understand solutions of the YBE. It turns out that skew braces appear in many different contexts, such as near-rings, matched pairs of groups, triply factorized groups, bijective 1-cocycles and Hopf-Galois extensions. These connections and some of their consequences are explored in this paper. We produce several new families of solutions related in many different ways with rings, near-rings and groups. We also study the solutions of the YBE that skew braces naturally produce. We prove, for example, that the order of the canonical solution associated with a finite skew brace is even: it is two times the exponent of the additive group modulo its center.

Abstract:We investigate deformations of a skew group algebra that arise from a finite group acting on a polynomial ring. When the characteristic of the underlying field divides the order of the group, a new type of deformation emerges that does not occur in characteristic zero. This analogue of Lusztig's graded affine Hecke algebra for positive characteristic can not be forged from the template of symplectic reflection and related algebras as originally crafted by Drinfeld. By contrast, we show that in characteristic zero, for arbitrary finite groups, a Lusztig-type deformation is always isomorphic to a Drinfeld-type deformation. We fit all these deformations into a general theory, connecting Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt deformations and Hochschild cohomology when working over fields of arbitrary characteristic. We make this connection by way of a double complex adapted from Guccione, Guccione, and Valqui, formed from the Koszul resolution of a polynomial ring and the bar resolution of a group algebra.

Abstract:It is evident that skew polynomials offer promising directions for developing cryptographic schemes. This paper focuses on exploring skew polynomials and studying their properties with the aim of exploring their potential applications in fields such as cryptography and combinatorics. We begin by deriving the concept of resultants for bivariate skew polynomials. Then, we employ the derived resultant to incrementally eliminate indeterminates in skew polynomial systems, utilising both direct and modular approaches. Finally, we discuss some applications of the derived resultant, including cryptographic schemes (such as Diffie–Hellman) and combinatorial identities (such as Pascal's identity). We start by considering a bivariate skew polynomial system with two indeterminates; our intention is to isolate and eliminate one of the indeterminates to reduce the system to a simpler form (that is, relying only on one indeterminate in this case). The methodology is composed of two main techniques; in the first technique, we apply our definition of a (bivariate) resultant via a Sylvester-style matrix directly from the polynomials' coefficients, while the second is based on modular methods where we compute the resultant by using evaluation and interpolation approaches. The idea of this second technique is that instead of computing the resultant directly from the coefficients, we propose to evaluate the polynomials at a set of valid points to compute its corresponding set of partial resultants first; then, we can deduce the original resultant by combining all these partial resultants using an interpolation technique by utilising a theorem we have established.

Abstract:Skew braces provide an algebraic framework for studying bijective nondegenerate solutions of the set-theoretic Yang-Baxter equation. We show that left skew bracoids, recently introduced by two of the authors, can be used to obtain right nondegenerate solutions, and give a variety of examples arising from various methods of constructing left skew bracoids. We compare the solutions we obtain with the left nondegenerate solutions obtained via (left cancellative) left semibraces, and establish a correspondence between left semibraces and a class of left skew bracoids.

Smooth symmetric systems over a finite field and applications

Abstract:We study the set of common $\mathbb{F}_q$-rational solutions of "smooth" systems of multivariate symmetric polynomials with coefficients in a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. We show that, under certain conditions, the set of common solutions of such polynomial systems over the algebraic closure of $\mathbb{F}_q$ has a "good" geometric behavior. This allows us to obtain precise estimates on the corresponding number of common $\mathbb{F}_q$-rational solutions. In the case of hypersurfaces we are able to improve the results. We illustrate the interest of these estimates through their application to certain classical combinatorial problems over finite fields.

Abstract:We extend the results on the graph closures of the birational maps between projective spaces and Grassmannians to the case of PBW degenerate flag varieties. The advantage of the PBW degenerate flags (as opposed to their classical analogues) is the existence of a large group of symmetries for the graph closures. We discuss the combinatorial, algebraic and geometric sides of the picture. In particular, we show that toric degenerations of Borovik, Sturmfels and Sverrisdóttir are still available in the general settings. We also derive a description of the graph closures for flag varieties in terms of quiver representations.

Abstract:We consider higher secant varieties to Veronese varieties. Most points on the r-th secant variety are represented by a finite scheme of length r contained in the Veronese variety --- in fact, for generic point, it is just a union of r distinct points. A modern way to phrase it is: the smoothable rank is equal to the border rank for most polynomials. This property is very useful for studying secant varieties, especially, whenever the smoothable rank is equal to the border rank for all points of the secant variety in question. In this note we investigate those special points for which the smoothable rank is not equal to the border rank. In particular, we show an explicit example of a cubic in five variables with border rank 5 and smoothable rank 6. We also prove that all cubics in at most four variables have the smoothable rank equal to the border rank.
