Abstract:We introduce logarithmic Enriques varieties as a singular analogue of Enriques manifolds, generalizing the notion of log-Enriques surfaces introduced by Zhang. We focus then on the properties of the subfamily of log-Enriques varieties that admit a quasi-étale cover by a singular symplectic variety and we give many examples.

In the case where the ambient variety is the projective space $\mathbb{P}^n$ we calculate the graded ideal defining the scheme of persistent singularities.

Abstract:We introduce and study the class of primitive Enriques varieties, whose smooth members are Enriques manifolds. We provide several examples and we demonstrate that this class is stable under the operations of the Minimal Model Program (MMP). In particular, given an Enriques manifold $Y$ and an effective $\mathbb{R}$-divisor $B_Y$ on $Y$ such that the pair $(Y,B_Y)$ is log canonical, we prove that any $(K_Y+B_Y)$-MMP terminates with a minimal model $(Y',B_{Y'})$ of $(Y,B_Y)$, where $Y'$ is a $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial primitive Enriques variety with canonical singularities. Finally, we investigate the asymptotic theory of Enriques manifolds.

Abstract:This article studies the moduli spaces of semistable objects related to two families of Enriques categories over K3 surfaces, coming from quartic double solids and special Gushel--Mukai threefolds. In particular, classic geometric constructions are recovered in a modular way, such as the double EPW sextic and cube associated with a general Gushel--Mukai surface, and the Beauville's birational involution on the Hilbert scheme of two points on a quartic K3 surface. In addition, we describe the singular loci in some moduli spaces of semistable objects and an explicit birational involutions on an O'Grady's hyperkähler tenfold.

Uniformization of varieties with log-canonical singularities

Abstract:We study the problem of uniformizing quasi-projective varieties with logcanonical compactifications. More precisely, given a complex projective variety X with log-canonical singularities, we give criteria for X to be isomorphic to a Baily-Borel-Mok compactification of a ball quotient, asking on the one hand the equality case in a suitable Miyaoka-Yau (MY) inequality, and on the other hand some adequate assumptions on the singularities. We also give as a result of independent interest that log-resolutions of log-canonical singularities have their fibers connected by chains of special varieties in the sense of Campana; this is used in the proof to control the behaviour of the period map near the exceptional divisors of such resolutions. We also show that it is necessary to assume that the singularities are at least logcanonical: some examples of Deligne-Mostow-Deraux can be manipulated to provide examples of singular varieties satisfying the equality case in MY, while not being isomorphic to such Baily-Borel-Mok compactifications.

Abstract:Based on the logarithmic algebraic geometry and the theory of Deligne systems, we define an abelian category of $\ell$-adic sheaves with weight filtrations on a logarithmic scheme over a finite field, which is similar to the category of variations of mixed Hodge structure. We consider asymptotic behaviors and simple cases of higher direct images of objects of this category. This category is closely related to the monodromy-weight conjecture.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of log R-maps, and develop a proper moduli stack of stable log R-maps in the case of a hybrid gauged linear sigma model. Two virtual cycles (canonical and reduced) are constructed for these moduli stacks. The main results are two comparison theorems relating the reduced virtual cycle to the cosection localized virtual cycle, as well as the reduced virtual cycle to the canonical virtual cycle. This sets the foundation of a new technique for computing higher genus Gromov-Witten invariants of complete intersections.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that a smooth projective globally $F$-split variety with numerically flat tangent bundle is an étale quotient of an ordinary abelian variety. We also show its logarithmic analog, which contains a characterization of toric varieties. We further prove that, without assumption of global $F$-splitting, a smooth projective separably rationally connected variety of arbitrary characteristic with numerically flat log cotangent bundle is a toric variety.

Abstract:On any smooth algebraic variety over a p p -adic local field, we construct a tensor functor from the category of de Rham p p -adic étale local systems to the category of filtered algebraic vector bundles with integrable connections satisfying the Griffiths transversality, which we view as a p p -adic analogue of Deligne’s classical Riemann–Hilbert correspondence. A crucial step is to construct canonical extensions of the desired connections to suitable compactifications of the algebraic variety with logarithmic poles along the boundary, in a precise sense characterized by the eigenvalues of residues; hence the title of the paper. As an application, we show that this p p -adic Riemann–Hilbert functor is compatible with the classical one over all Shimura varieties, for local systems attached to representations of the associated reductive algebraic groups.
Quadratic enrichment of the logarithmic derivative of the zeta function

Abstract:We define an enrichment of the logarithmic derivative of the zeta function of a variety over a finite field to a power series with coefficients in the Grothendieck--Witt group. We show that this enrichment is related to the topology of the real points of a lift. For cellular schemes over a field, we prove a rationality result for this enriched logarithmic derivative of the zeta function as an analogue of part of the Weil conjectures. We also compute several examples, including toric varieties, and show that the enrichment is a motivic measure.

Abstract:We define the logarithmic tautological rings of the moduli spaces of Deligne-Mumford stable curves (together with a set of additive generators lifting the decorated strata classes of the standard tautological rings). While these algebras are infinite dimensional, a connection to polyhedral combinatorics via a new theory of homological piecewise polynomials allows an effective study. A complete calculation is given in genus 0 via the algebra of piecewise polynomials on the cone stack of the associated Artin fan (lifting Keel's presentation of the Chow ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n}$). Counterexamples to the simplest generalizations in genus 1 are presented. We show, however, that the structure of the log tautological rings is determined by the complete knowledge of all relations in the standard tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves. In particular, Pixton's conjecture concerning relations in the standard tautological rings lifts to a complete conjecture for relations in the log tautological rings of the moduli spaces of curves. Several open questions are discussed. We develop the entire theory of logarithmic tautological classes in the context of arbitrary smooth normal crossings pairs $(X,D)$ with explicit formulas for intersection products. As a special case, we give an explicit set of additive generators of the full logarithmic Chow ring of $(X,D)$ in terms of Chow classes on the strata of $X$ and piecewise polynomials on the cone stack.

The log-open correspondence for two-component Looijenga pairs

Abstract:A two-component Looijenga pair is a rational smooth projective surface with an anticanonical divisor consisting of two transversally intersecting curves. We establish an all-genus correspondence between the logarithmic Gromov-Witten theory of a two-component Looijenga pair and open Gromov-Witten theory of a toric Calabi-Yau threefold geometrically engineered from the surface geometry. This settles a conjecture of Bousseau, Brini and van Garrel in the case of two boundary components. We also explain how the correspondence implies BPS integrality for the logarithmic invariants and provides a new means for computing them via the topological vertex method.

We prove splitting criteria for coherent sheaves and a characterization of Ulrich bundles. Finally we study logarithmic bundles associated to arrangements of lines and rational curves.

527 elliptic fibrations on Enriques surfaces

Abstract:Barth and Peters showed that a general complex Enriques surface has exactly 527 isomorphism classes of elliptic fibrations. We show that every Enriques surface has precisely 527 isomorphism classes of elliptic fibrations when counted with the appropriate multiplicity. Their reducible singular fibers and the multiplicities can be calculated explicitly. The same statements hold over any algebraically closed field of characteristic not two. To explain these results, we construct a moduli space of complex elliptic Enriques surfaces and study the ramification behavior of the forgetful map to the moduli space of unpolarized Enriques surfaces. Curiously, the ramification indices of a similar map compute the hyperbolic volume of the rational polyhedral fundamental domain appearing in the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture.

Logarithmic vector fields and foliations on toric varieties

Abstract:We introduce a toric version of the sheaf of logarithmic vector fields along a divisor of a simplicial toric variety. The notion is also relevant for algebraically independent families of polynomials in the Cox ring. We provide a generalisation of the Saito criterion for the freeness of the toric logarithmic sheaf. We explain the relationship between this sheaf and the usual sheaf of logarithmic vector fields and the connection with holomorphic foliations on toric varieties.

Abstract:We use the theory of logarithmic line bundles to construct compactifications of spaces of roots of a line bundle on a family of curves, generalising work of a number of authors. This runs via a study of the torsion in the tropical and logarithmic jacobians (recently constructed by Molcho and Wise). Our moduli space carries a `double ramification cycle' measuring the locus where the given root is isomorphic to the trivial bundle, and we give a tautological formula for this class in the language of piecewise polynomial functions (as recently developed by Molcho-Pandharipande-Schmitt and Holmes-Schwarz).

Abstract:We develop the foundations of logarithmic structures beyond the standard finiteness conditions. The motivation is the study of semistable models over general valuation rings. The key new notion is that of a morphism of finite presentation up to saturation (sfp), which is one that is qcqs and which is locally isomorphic to the saturated base change of a finitely presented morphism between fs log schemes. As in the case of schemes, sfp maps can (locally on the base) be approximated by maps between fs log schemes of finite type over $\mathbb{Z}$. Based on sfp maps, we define smooth, étale, and Kummer étale maps. Importantly, the maps of schemes underlying such maps are no longer of finite type in general, though surprisingly they are if the base is the spectrum of a valuation ring with algebraically closed field of fractions. These foundations allow us to extend beyond the fs case the theory of the Kummer étale site and of the Kummer étale fundamental group.

Singularities on vertical $ε$-log canonical Fano fibrations

Abstract:Given a Fano type log Calabi-Yau fibration $(X,B)\to Z$ with $(X,B)$ being $\epsilon$-lc, the first author in \cite{Bi23} proved that the generalised pair $(Z,B_Z+M_Z)$ given by the canonical bundle formula is generalised $\delta$-lc where $\delta>0$ depends only on $\epsilon$ and $\dim X-\dim Z$, which confirmed a conjecture of Shokurov. In this paper, we prove the above result under a weaker assumption. Instead of requiring $(X,B)$ to be $\epsilon$-lc, we assume that $(X,B)$ is $\epsilon$-lc vertically over $Z$, that is, the log discrepancy of $E$ with respect to $(X,B)$ is $\geq \epsilon$ for any prime divisor $E$ over $X$ whose center on $X$ is vertical over $Z$.
