Abstract:Let $(X,0)$ be the germ of an equidimensional analytic set in $(\mathbb C^n,0)$ and $f=(f_1,f_2)$ a map-germ into the plane defined on $X.$ In this work, we investigate topological invariants associated to the pair $(f,X),$ among them, the Euler obstruction of $f,$ $Eu_{f,X}(0),$ and under convenient assumptions, the Chern number of families of differential forms associated to $f.$ The topological information provided by these invariants is useful, although difficult to calculate. The aim of the paper is to introduce the Bruce-Roberts and the relative Bruce-Roberts numbers as useful algebraic tools to capture the topological information giving by the Euler obstruction and the Chern numbers. Closed formulas are given when $X,\, X\cap f_2^{-1}(0),\, X\cap f_2^{-1}(0)\cap f_1^{-1}(0)$ are ICIS. In the last section, for a 2-dimensional ICIS $(X,0) \subset (\mathbb C^n,0),$ we apply our results to give an alternative description for the number of cusps $c(f|_X)$ of an stabilization of an $\mathcal A$-finite map-germ $f=(f_1, f_2): (X,0) \to (\mathbb C^2,0).$ A formula for $c(f|_X)$ was first given in [21].

Abstract:We introduce the notion of the \textit{Bruce-Roberts number} for holomorphic 1-forms relative to complex analytic varieties. Our main result shows that the Bruce-Roberts number of a 1-form $\omega$ with respect to a complex analytic hypersurface $X$ with an isolated singularity can be expressed in terms of the \textit{Ebeling--Gusein-Zade index} of $\omega$ along $X$, the \textit{Milnor number} of $\omega$ and the \textit{Tjurina number} of $X$. This result allows us to recover known formulas for the Bruce-Roberts number of a holomorphic function along $X$ and to establish connections between this number, the radial index, and the local Euler obstruction of $\omega$ along $X$. Moreover, we present applications to both global and local holomorphic foliations in complex dimension two.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of the Bruce-Roberts Tjurina number for holomorphic 1-forms relative to a pair $(X,V)$ of complex analytic subvarieties. When the pair $(X,V)$ consists of isolated complex analytic hypersurfaces, we prove that the Bruce-Roberts Tjurina number is related to the Bruce-Roberts number, the Tjurina number of the 1-form with respect to $V$ and the Tjurina number of $X$, among other invariants. As an application, we present a quasihomogeneity result for germs of holomorphic foliations in complex dimension two.

Abstract:Due to the orbifold singularities, the intersection numbers on the moduli space of curves $\bar{\sM}_{g,n}$ are in general rational numbers rather than integers. We study the properties of the denominators of these intersection numbers and their relationship with the orders of automorphism groups of stable curves. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Itzykson and Zuber. We also present a conjectural multinomial type numerical property for Hodge integrals.

Abstract:Abstract Given a germ of an analytic variety X and a germ of a holomorphic function f with a stratified isolated singularity with respect to the logarithmic stratification of X , we show that under certain conditions on the singularity type of the pair ( f , X ), the following relative analog of the well-known K. Saito’s theorem holds true: equality of the relative Milnor and Tjurina numbers of f with respect to X (also known as Bruce–Roberts numbers) is equivalent to the relative quasihomogeneity of the pair ( f , X ), i.e. to the existence of a coordinate system such that both f and X are quasihomogeneous with respect to the same positive rational weights.

Abstract:In recent years, a version of enumerative geometry over arbitrary fields has been developed and studied by Kass-Wickelgren, Levine, and others, in which the counts obtained are not integers but quadratic forms. Aiming to understand the relation to other "refined invariants", and especially their possible interpretation in quantum theory, we explain how to obtain a quadratic version of Donaldson-Thomas invariants from the motivic invariants defined in the work of Kontsevich and Soibelman and pose some questions. We calculate these invariants in a few simple examples that provide standard tests for these questions, including degree zero invariants of $\mathbb A^3$ and higher-genus Gopakumar-Vafa invariants recently studied by Liu and Ruan. The comparison with known real and complex counts plays a central role throughout.

Abstract:We introduce a categorical analogue of Saito’s notion of primitive forms. For the category $\textsf{MF}(\frac{1}{n+1}x^{n+1})$ of matrix factorizations of $\frac{1}{n+1}x^{n+1}$, we prove that there exists a unique, up to non-zero constant, categorical primitive form. The corresponding genus zero categorical Gromov–Witten invariants of $\textsf{MF}(\frac{1}{n+1}x^{n+1})$ are shown to match with the invariants defined through unfolding of singularities of $\frac{1}{n+1}x^{n+1}$.

Abstract:Definition 0. Let V be a Stein analytic space with x as its only singular point. Let 7r: M -V be a resolution of the singularity of V. We shall denote dim H1(M, 9), 1 < i < n 1 by h(i), and dim Hq(M, UP) for 1 ? p < n, 1 < q < n by hP,q(M). So far as the classification problem is concerned, h (n-i) is one of the most important invariants. In this paper, we shall introduce a bunch of invariants (cf. Definition 2.6, Definition 4.1, and Definition 5.1) which are naturally attached to isolated singularities. These invariants are used to characterize the different notions of sheaves of germs of holomorphic differential forms on analytic spaces. Various formulae which relate all these invariants are proved. We also show how to calculate these invariants explicitly. Our paper is organized as follows. In section 2 we discuss the relationship between three different kinds of sheaves of germs of holomorphic forms introduced by Grauert-Grothendieck, Noether and Ferrari respectively, and the dualizing sheaf on a complex analytic space which admits only isolated singularities. We remark that the torsion sheaf of the sheaf of germs of holomorphic p-forms in the sense of Grauert-Grothendieck was studied by Brieskorn [9], Greuel [48], Kantor [19], Suzuki [38], Vetter [39] and the author [43]. In section 3 we relate the invariant g(n-l1) of a hypersurface isolated singularity with analytic invariants and topological invariants of any resolution of the singularity. Waring ranks of sextic binary forms via geometric invariant theory

Abstract:We determine the Waring ranks of all sextic binary forms with complex coefficients using a Geometric Invariant Theory approach. Using the five basic invariants for sextic binary forms, our results give a rapid method to determine the Waring rank of any given sextic binary form. In particular, we shed new light on a claim by E. B. Elliott at the end of the 19th century concerning the binary sextics with Waring rank 3. We show that for binary forms of arbitrary degree the cactus rank, a.k.a. scheme rank, is determined by the corresponding Waring rank. Finally we determine the border ranks of all binary sextics.

Abstract:We define Tate-Betti and Tate-Bass invariants for modules over a commutative noetherian local ring R. Then we show the periodicity of these invariants provided that R is a hypersurface. In case R is also Gorenstein, we show that a finitely generated R-module M and its Matlis dual have the same Tate-Betti and Tate-Bass numbers.

On geometric invariants of singular plane curves

Abstract:Given a germ of a smooth plane curve $(\{f(x,y)=0\},0)\subset (\mathbb K^2,0), \mathbb K=\mathbb R, \mathbb C$, with an isolated singularity, we define two invariants $I_f$ and $V_f\in \mathbb N\cup\{\infty\}$ which count the number of inflections and vertices (suitably interpreted in the complex case) concentrated at the singular point; the first is an affine invariant and the second is invariant under similarities of $\mathbb R^2$, and their analogue for $\mathbb C^2$. We show that for almost all representations of $f$, in the sense that their complement is of infinite codimension, these invariants are finite. Indeed when the curve has no smooth components they are always finite and bounded and we can be much more explicit about the values they can attain; the set of possible values is of course an analytic invariant of $f$. We illustrate our results by computing these invariants for Arnold's $\mathcal K$-simple singularities as well as singularities that have ${\mathcal A}$-simple parametrisations. We also obtain a relationship between these invariants, the Milnor number of $f$ and the contact of the curve germ with its osculating circle.

Abstract:We consider 1-forms on, so called, essentially isolated determinantal singularities (a natural generalization of isolated ones), show how to define analogues of the Poincaré--Hopf index for them, and describe relations between these indices and the radial index. For isolated determinantal singularities, we discuss properties of the homological index of a holomorphic 1-form and its relation with the Poincaré--Hopf index.

Abstract:We reconstruct the all-genus Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariants of a Fermat cubic Landau-Ginzburg space $(x_1^3+x_2^3+x_3^3: [\mathbb{C}^3/ \mathbold{\mu}_3]\to \mathbb{C})$ from genus-one primary invariants, using tautological relations and axioms of Cohomological Field Theories. These genus-one invariants satisfy a Chazy equation by the Belorousski-Pandharipande relation. They are completely determined by a single genus-one invariant, which can be obtained from cosection localization and intersection theory on moduli of three spin curves. We solve an all-genus Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau Correspondence Conjecture for the Fermat cubic Landau-Ginzburg space using Cayley transformation on quasi-modular forms. This transformation relates two non-semisimple CohFT theories: the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory of the Fermat cubic polynomial and the Gromov-Witten theory of the Fermat cubic curve. As a consequence, Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariants at any genus can be computed using Gromov-Witten invariants of the elliptic curve. They also satisfy nice structures including holomorphic anomaly equations and Virasoro constraints.

Abstract:We compute Joyce's (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2111.04694" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.04694">arXiv:2111.04694</a>) enumerative invariants $[\mathcal{M}^{\mathrm{ss}}_{(r,d)}]_{\mathrm{inv}}$ for semistable rank $r$ degree $d$ coherent sheaves on a complex projective curve. These invariants are a generalization of the fundamental class of the moduli of semistable sheaves. We express the invariants as a regularized sum, which is a way to assign finite values to divergent series, and we obtain explicit expressions for the invariants. From these invariants, one can extract cohomology pairings on the moduli of semistable sheaves. When $r$ and $d$ are coprime, formulae for such pairings were found by Witten and proved by Jeffrey and Kirwan. Our results provide a new point of view on this classical problem, and can be seen as a generalization of this to the case when $r$ and $d$ are not coprime.

Abstract:We prove conjectured formulas for 1π due to Chan and Verrill and related to modular forms for Γ0(6)+3 . These experimental results from Chan and Verrill involve the sequence of Domb numbers and were discovered via the PARI software. A key tool involved in our proofs of Chan and Verrill's conjectures is given by an identity from Rogers derived via three-variable Mahler measures.

Abstract:In this work we study, in greater detail than before, J.H. Conway's topographs for integral binary quadratic forms. These are trees in the plane with regions labeled by integers following a simple pattern. Each topograph can display the values of a single form, or represent an equivalence class of forms. We give a new treatment of reduction of forms to canonical equivalence class representatives by employing topographs and a novel continued fraction for complex numbers. This allows uniform reduction for any positive, negative, square or non-square discriminant. Topograph geometry also provides new class number formulas, and short proofs of results of Gauss relating to sums of three squares. Generalizations of the series of Hurwitz for class numbers give evaluations of certain infinite series, summed over the regions or edges of a topograph.
