Abstract:Over a non-closed field, it is a common strategy to use separable algebras as invariants to distinguish algebraic and geometric objects. The most famous example is the deep connection between Severi-Brauer varieties and central simple algebras. For more general varieties, one might use endomorphism algebras of line bundles, of indecomposable vector bundles, or of exceptional objects in their derived categories. Using Galois cohomology, we describe a new invariant of reductive algebraic groups that captures precisely when this strategy will fail. Our main result characterizes this invariant in terms of coflasque resolutions of linear algebraic groups introduced by Colliot-Thélène. We determine whether or not this invariant is trivial for many fields. For number fields, we show it agrees with the Tate-Shafarevich group of the linear algebraic group, up to behavior at real places.

Abstract:The aim of this article is to obtain variations on the classical theorems of Schur and Baer on finiteness of commutator subgroups, valid in the contexts of Lie algebras and Leibniz algebras over a field. Using non-abelian tensor products and exterior products, we prove Schur's Theorem for finitely generated Leibniz algebras, both Schur's Theorem and Baer's Theorem for finitely generated Lie algebras, and a version of these theorems for finitely presented Lie algebras.

Abstract:General theory determines the notion of separable MV-algebra (equivalently, of separable unital lattice-ordered Abelian group). We establish the following structure theorem: An MV-algebra is separable if, and only if, it is a finite product of algebras of rational numbers, i.e., of subalgebras of the MV-algebra $[0,1]\cap\mathbb{Q}$. Beyond its intrinsic algebraic interest, this research is motivated by the long-term programme of developing the algebraic geometry of the opposite of the categroy of MV-algebras, in analogy with the classical case of commutative $K$-algebras over a field $K$.

A tilting module A~T is called separating if the torsion theory (F(A~T), G(A~T)) induced by A~T is splitting in A-mod, i. e. any indecomposable module A~M belongs either to F(A~T) or to G(A~T). In this note we prove the following main result by using the representation theory of representation-infinite hereditary algebra.

Abstract:Here we announce the construction and properties of a big commutative subalgebra of the Kirillov algebra attached to a finite dimensional irreducible representation of a complex semisimple Lie group. They are commutative finite flat algebras over the cohomology of the classifying space of the group. They are isomorphic with the equivariant intersection cohomology of affine Schubert varieties, endowing them with a new ring structure. Study of the finer aspects of the structure of the big algebras will also furnish the stalks of the intersection cohomology with ring structure, thus ringifying Lusztig's q-weight multiplicity polynomials i.e. affine Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.

Purely Inseparable ring extensions

Abstract:We revisit the concept of special algebras, also known as \textit{purely inseparable ring extensions}. This concept extends the notion of purely inseparable field extensions to the more general context of extensions of commutative rings. We use differential operators methods to provide a characterization for a ring extension to be purely inseparable in terms of a condition on certain modules of differential operators associated to the ring extension. This approach is also used to recover an already known characterization involving the modules of principal parts. Next, given a purely inseparable ring extension $A\subset C$, we aim to understand which intermediate rings $A\subset B\subset C$ satisfy the property that both $A\subset B$ and $B\subset C$ are both flat extensions by considering only the subalgebra $\operatorname{End}_B(C)$ of $\operatorname{End}_A(C)$. To achieve this, we prove a generalization of the Jacobson-Bourbaki theorem on Galois correspondence for field extensions to the setting of commutative ring extensions with homeomorphic spectra. Finally, given a tower of ring extensions $A\subset B\subset C$, we consider the question of whether the fact that two of the three extensions $A\subset C$, $A\subset B$, and $B\subset C$ are purely inseparable implies that the third one is also purely inseparable.

Structure algebras of finite set-theoretic solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation

Abstract:Algebras related to finite bijective or idempotent left non-degenerate solutions $(X,r)$ of the Yang--Baxter equation have been intensively studied. These are the monoid algebras $K[M(X,r)]$ and $K[A(X,r)]$, over a field $K$, of its structure monoid $M(X,r)$ and left derived structure monoid $A(X,r)$, which have quadratic defining relations. In this paper we deal with arbitrary finite left non-degenerate solutions $(X,r)$. Via divisibility by generators, i.e., the elements of $X$, we construct an ideal chain in $M(X,r)$ that has very strong algebraic structural properties on its Rees factors. This allows to obtain characterizations of when the algebras $K[M(X,r)]$ and $K[A(X,r)]$ are left or right Noetherian. Intricate relationships between ring-theoretical and homological properties of these algebras and properties of the solution $(X,r)$ are proven, which extends known results on bijective non-degenerate solutions. Furthermore, we describe the cancellative congruences of $A(X,r)$ and $M(X,r)$ as well as the prime spectrum of $K[A(X,r)]$. This then leads to an explicit formula for the Gelfand--Kirillov dimension of $K[M(X,r)]$ in terms of the number of orbits in $X$ under actions of certain finite monoids derived from $(X,r)$. It is also shown that the former coincides with the classical Krull dimension of $K[M(X,r)]$ in case the algebra $K[M(X,r)]$ is left or right Noetherian. Finally, we obtain the first structural results for a class of finite degenerate solutions $(X,r)$ of the form $r(x,y)=(\lambda_x(y),\rho(y))$ by showing that structure algebras of such solution are always right Noetherian.

Abstract:In this paper we study Lie 2-algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic two, which have a triangulable Cartan subalgebra, and derive some general properties of centerless ones. These properties allow us to do an analysis on simple Lie 2-algebras of toral rank three and provide a necessary condition for simplicity. By means of this latter condition we also conclude that simple Lie 2-algebras with a triangulable Cartan subalgebra of toral rank three and of dimension less than or equal to 16 cannot exist.

Abstract:We establish a structure theorem, analogous to the classical result of Milnor and Moore, for differential graded Hopf algebras: any differential Hopf algebra $H$ that is free as a coalgebra carries an underlying $B_\infty$ algebra structure that restricts to the subspace of primitives, and conversely $H$ may be recovered via a universal enveloping differential-2-associative algebra. This extends the work of Loday and Ronco [12] where the ungraded non-differential case was treated, and only the multibrace part of the $B_\infty$ structure was found. We show that the multibrace structure of [12] originates from a twisting of a quasi-trivial structure, extending the work of Markl [14] on the $A_\infty$ structure underlying any algebra with a square-zero endomorphism. In this framework it is also clear that the multibrace and $A_\infty$ structures are compatible, and provide an appropriate $B_\infty$ structure for the structure theorem.

Abstract:Let ( P ) be a property of -algebras which may be satiesfied or not, and be the set of separable -algebras which satiesfies ( P ). We give a sufficient condition for ( P ) to admit a universal separable element in the sense that for any , there exists a surjective -homomorphism , and use the sufficient condition to show that when ( P ) is "unital with stable rank n ", "the small projection property" or "unital with stable exponential lenght b ", the sufficient condition is satisfied and hence there exists a corresponding universal -algebra. We also give a stronger condition for property ( P ), which additionally implies that the set of corresponding universal -algebras is uncountable, and use it to show that the set of universal unital separable -algebras of stable rank n is uncountable as an example.

Abstract:We give an example of an exact, stably finite, simple. separable C*-algebra D which is not isomorphic to its opposite algebra. Moreover, D has the following additional properties. It is stably finite, approximately divisible, has real rank zero and stable rank one, has a unique tracial state, and the order on projections over D is determined by traces. It also absorbs the Jiang-Su algebra Z, and in fact absorbs the 3^{\infty} UHF algebra. We can also explicitly compute the K-theory of D, namely K_0 (D) = Z[1/3] with the standard order, and K_1 (D) = 0, as well as the Cuntz semigroup of D.

Abstract:Let G be a connected reductive algebraic group and let G'=[G,G] be its derived subgroup. Let (G,V) be a multiplicity free representation with a one dimensional quotient (see definition below). We prove that the algebra D(V)^{G'} of G'-invariant differential operators with polynomial coefficients on V, is a quotient of a so-called Smith algebra over its center. Over C this class of algebras was introduced by S.P. Smith as a class of algebras similar to the enveloping algebra U(sl(2)) of sl(2). Our result generalizes the case of the Weil representation, where the associative algebra generated by Q(x) and Q(?) (Q being a non degenerate quadratic form on V) is a quotient of U(sl(2)) Other structure results are obtained when (G,V) is a regular prehomogeneous vector space of commutative parabolic type.

We show that the endomorphism algebra A S := (End(X2S X)) op has global dimension 2. This produces a large class of quasi{hereditary algebras. Further, we generalize the notion of a splitting ltration introduced by Dlab and Ringel and deene left and right splitting ltrations of S. Heredity chains of A S associated with these ltrations are obtained. Auslander algebra A(() of a representation{{nite artin algebra is by definition the endomorphism algebra (End (M)) op , where M is the direct sum of all indecomposable {modules. It is well{known that the global dimension of A(() is at most 2, thus, by a result of Dlab and Ringel 3], A(() is quasi{ hereditary. In 4] the authors introduced the notion of a splitting ltration on the class of all indecomposable {modules and obtained in this way a heredity chain of ideals of A((). In the present paper we deal with nite sets S of indecomposable modules over an arbitrary artin algebra and show that the endomorphism algebra A S := (End (X2S X)) op has global dimension 2 if add S is closed under submodules or factor modules. Abstract:We introduce two classes of algebras coming from partial triangulations of marked surfaces. The first one, called frozen algebra of a partial triangulation, is generally of infinite rank and contains frozen Jacobian algebras of triangulations of marked surfaces. The second one, called algebra of a partial triangulation, is always of (explicit) finite rank and contains classical Jacobian algebras of triangulations of marked surfaces and Brauer graph algebras. We classify the partial triangulations, depending on the complexity of their frozen algebras (some are free of finite rank, some are lattices over a formal power series ring and most of them are not finitely generated over their centre). For algebras of partial triangulations, we prove that they are symmetric when the surface has no boundary. From a more representation theoretical point of view, we prove that these algebras of partial triangulations are of tame representation type and we define a combinatorial operation on partial triangulation, generalizing Kauer moves of Brauer graphs and flips of triangulations, which give derived equivalences of the corresponding algebras.

A unified approach to some rigidity and stability problems in algebra

Abstract:In this note, we use give some algebraic applications of a previous result by the author which compares the deformations parameterized by the Maurer-Cartan elements of a differential graded Lie algebra, and a differential graded Lie subalgebra: It gives a criterion for the map on the space of Maurer-Cartan elements up to gauge equivalence, induced by the inclusion of the subalgebra, to be locally surjective. By making appropriate choices for the differential graded Lie algebra and a differential graded Lie subalgebra, we recover some classical results in the deformation theory of finite-dimensional Lie and associative algebras. We consider rigidity of Lie and associative algebras, Lie algebra morphisms, and give a quick proof of the fact that the deformation theories of a unital associative algebra as a unital associative algebra and as an associative algebra are equivalent. We then turn to stability of Lie subalgebras and their morphisms under deformations of the ambient Lie algebra structure, and study when the compatibility with a geometric structure of a representation of a Lie algebra on a vector space is stable under deformations of the representation.
