Abstract:Recently, Andrews and Paule studied Schmidt type partitions using MacMahon's Partition Analysis and obtained various interesting results. In this paper, we focus on the combinatorics of Schmidt type partition theorems and characterize them in a general and refined form. In addition, we also present some overpartition analogues of Schmidt type partition theorems.

Abstract:With a graph $G=(V,E)$ we associate a collection of non-negative real weights $\cup_{v\in V}{\lambda_{i,v}:1\leq i \leq m} \cup \cup_{uv \in E} {\lambda_{ij,uv}:1\leq i \leq j \leq m}$. We consider the probability distribution on ${f:V\rightarrow{1,...,m}}$ in which each $f$ occurs with probability proportional to $\prod_{v \in V}\lambda_{f(v),v}\prod_{uv \in E}\lambda_{f(u)f(v),uv}$. Many well-known statistical physics models, including the Ising model with an external field and the hard-core model with non-uniform activities, can be framed as such a distribution. We obtain an upper bound, independent of $G$, for the partition function (the normalizing constant which turns the assignment of weights on $\{f:V\rightarrow{1,...,m\}}$ into a probability distribution) in the case when $G$ is a regular bipartite graph. This generalizes a bound obtained by Galvin and Tetali who considered the simpler weight collection $\{\lambda_i:1 \leq i \leq m\} \cup \{\lambda_{ij}:1 \leq i \leq j \leq m\}$ with each $\lambda_{ij}$ either 0 or 1 and with each $f$ chosen with probability proportional to $\prod_{v \in V}\lambda_{f(v)}\prod_{uv \in E}\lambda_{f(u)f(v)}$. Our main tools are a generalization to list homomorphisms of a result of Galvin and Tetali on graph homomorphisms and a straightforward second-moment computation.

Abstract:We give explicit formulas to compute most of the decomposition numbers of reductions modulo 2 of irreducible spin representations of symmetric groups indexed by partitions with at most 2 parts. In many of the still open cases small upper bounds are found.

Abstract:We introduce entanglement witnesses for spin ensembles which detect genuine multipartite entanglement using only measurements of the total angular momentum. States that are missed by most other angular-momentum-based witnesses for spin ensembles, which include Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states and certain superpositions of Dicke states, can be effectively detected by our witness. The protocol involves estimating the probability that the total angular momentum is positive along equally-spaced directions on a plane. Alternatively, one could measure along a single direction at different times, under the assumption that the total spins undergoes a uniform precession. Genuine multipartite entanglement is detected when the observed score exceeds a separable bound. Exact analytical expressions for the separable bound are obtained for spin ensembles $j_1\otimes j_2\otimes\dots \otimes j_N$ such that the total spin is a half-integer, and numerical results are reported for the other cases. Finally, we conjecture an expression for the separable bound when the total spin is not known, which is well supported by the numerical results.

Abstract:In many-particle spin-half systems with exchange symmetry, we find that the spin squeezing is related to two types of entanglement, the bipartite and the pairwise entanglement. A quantitative relationship is revealed for the spin squeezing parameter, the tangle, and the concurrence. We find that a class of states is spin squeezed if the pairwise entanglement is stronger than the bipartite entanglement.
Multipartite Spin Coherent States and Spinor States

Abstract:Multipartite generalizations of spin coherent states are introduced and analyzed. These are the spin analogues of multimode optical coherent states as used in continuous variable quantum information, but generalized to possess full spin symmetry. Two possible generalizations are given, one which is a simple tensor product of a given multipartite quantum state. The second generalization uses the bosonic formulation in the Jordan-Schwinger map, which we call spinor states. In the unipartite case, spinor states are equivalent to spin coherent states, however in the multipartite case, they are no longer equivalent. Some fundamental properties of these states are discussed, such as their observables and covariances with respect to symmetric operators, form preserving transformations, and entanglement. We discuss the utility of such multipartite spin coherent and spinor states as a way of storing quantum information.

Abstract:This paper presents a natural generalisation of Saxl conjecture from a Lie-theoretical perspective, which is verified for the exceptional types. For classical types, progress is made using spin representations, revealing connections to certain tensor product decomposition problems in symmetric groups. We provide an alternative uniform description of the cuspidal family (in the sense of Lusztig) through spin representations, offering an equivalent conjecture formulation. Additionally, we generalise Saxl conjecture to finite Coxeter groups and prove it for the non-crystallographic cases.

Abstract:Let $\GSpin(V)$ (resp. $\GPin(V)$) be a general spin group (resp. a general Pin group) associated with a nondegenerate quadratic space $V$ of dimension $n$ over an Archimedean local field $F$. For a nondegenerate quadratic space $W$ of dimension $n-1$ over $F$, we also consider $\GSpin(W)$ and $\GPin(W)$. We prove the multiplicity-at-most-one theorem in the Archimedean case for a pair of groups ($\GSpin(V), \GSpin(W)$) and also for a pair of groups ($\GPin(V), \GPin(W)$); namely, we prove that the restriction to $\GSpin(W)$ (resp. $\GPin(W)$) of an irreducible Casselman-Wallach representation of $\GSpin(V)$ (resp. $\GPin(V)$) is multiplicity free.

Abstract:We investigate spin-refined partition functions in AdS/CFT using Euclidean gravitational path integrals. We construct phase diagrams for Z X = Tr( e − βH X ) in various dimensions and for different choices of discrete isometry X , discovering rich structures at finite temperature. When X is a reflection, Z X counts the difference between the number of even- and odd-spin microstates. The high-temperature regime is universally dominated by -twisted black holes in any dimension, and in odd spacetime dimensions we examine whether complex rotating black hole solutions can contribute to spin-refined observables or potentially dominate at finite temperature. We also analyze the microcanonical ensemble. There the leading contribution almost always comes from rotating black holes, showing that the two ensembles are not necessarily equivalent.

Abstract:We characterize the set of all conformal Spin(7) forms on an oriented and spin Riemannian eight-manifold $(M,g)$ as solutions to a homogeneous algebraic equation of degree two for the self-dual four-forms of $(M,g)$. When $M$ is compact, we use this result to construct a functional whose self-dual critical set is precisely the set of all Spin(7) structures on $M$. Furthermore, the natural coupling of this potential to the Einstein-Hilbert action gives a functional whose self-dual critical points are conformally Ricci-flat Spin(7) structures. Our proof relies on the computation of the square of an irreducible and chiral real spinor as a section of a bundle of real algebraic varieties sitting inside the Kähler-Atiyah bundle of $(M,g)$.

Abstract:For a finite group, it is interesting to determine when two ordinary irreducible representations have the same $p$-modular reduction; that is, when two rows of the decomposition matrix in characteristic $p$ are equal, or equivalently when the corresponding $p$-modular Brauer characters are the same. We complete this task for the double covers of the symmetric group when $p=2$, by determining when the $2$-modular reduction of an irreducible spin representation coincides with a $2$-modular Specht module. In fact, we obtain a more general result: we determine when an irreducible spin representation has $2$-modular Brauer character proportional to that of a Specht module. In the course of the proof, we use induction and restriction functors to construct a function on generalised characters which has the effect of swapping runners in abacus displays for the labelling partitions.

Dynamical Spin Limit Shape of Young Diagram and Spin Jucys-Murphy Elements for Symmetric Groups

Abstract:The branching rule for spin irreducible representations of symmetric groups gives rise to a Markov chain on the spin dual $(\widetilde{\mathfrak{S}}_n)^\wedge_{spin}$ of symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$. This further produces a continuous time random walk $(X_s^{(n)})_{s\geqq 0}$ on $(\widetilde{\mathfrak{S}}_n)^\wedge_{spin}$ by introducing an appropriate pausing time. Taking diffusive scaling limit for these random walks under $s=tn$ and $1/\sqrt{n}$ reduction as $n\to\infty$, we consider a concentration phenomenon at each macroscopic time $t$. Since an element of $(\widetilde{\mathfrak{S}}_n)^\wedge_{spin}$ is regarded as a strict partition of $n$ with $\pm 1$ indices, the limit shapes of profiles of strict partitions appear. In this paper, we give a framework in which initial concentration at $t=0$ is propagated to concentration at any $t>0$. We thus meet the limit shape $\omega_t$ depending on macroscopic time $t$, and describe the time evolution by using devices in free probability theory. A spin version of the Jucys--Murphy element plays an important role in our analysis.

A Walk Through $Spin(1,d+1)$

Abstract:We construct unitary irreducible representation of the de Sitter group, that forms the basis for the study of $dS_{d+1}$ QFT. Using the intertwining kernel analysis, we discuss bosonic symmetric tensor, and fermionic higher-spinors. Particular care is given to the structure and construction of exceptional series and fermionic operators. We discuss the discrete series, and explain how and why the exceptional series give rise to seemingly non-invariant correlators in de Sitter. Using tools from Clifford analysis, we show that for $d>3$, there are no exceptional fermionic representations, and so no unitary (higher)-gravitino fields. We also consider the structure of representations for $d=3$ and $d=2$, as relevant for the study of $dS_4$, the only space allowing for unitary gravitino and its generalisation, and of $dS_3$.

Quadratic Spinor Polynomials with Infinitely Many Factorizations

Abstract:Spinor polynomials are polynomials with coefficients in the even sub-algebra of conformal geometric algebra whose norm polynomial is real. They describe rational conformal motions. Factorizations of spinor polynomial corresponds to the decomposition of the rational motion into elementary motions. Generic spinor polynomials allow for a finite number of factorizations. We present two examples of quadratic spinor polynomials that admit infinitely many factorizations. One of them, the circular translation, is well-known. The other one has only been introduced recently but in a different context. We not only compute all factorizations of these conformal motions but also interpret them geometrically.

Abstract:Consider minimizing the entropy of a mixture of states by choosing each state subject to constraints. If the spectrum of each state is fixed, we expect that in order to reduce the entropy of the mixture, we should make the states less distinguishable in some sense. Here, we study a class of optimization problems that are inspired by this situation and shed light on the relevant notions of distinguishability. The motivation for our study is the recently introduced spin alignment conjecture. In the original version of the underlying problem, each state in the mixture is constrained to be a freely chosen state on a subset of n qubits tensored with a fixed state Q on each of the qubits in the complement. According to the conjecture, the entropy of the mixture is minimized by choosing the freely chosen state in each term to be a tensor product of projectors onto a fixed maximal eigenvector of Q , which maximally "aligns" the terms in the mixture. We generalize this problem in several ways. First, instead of minimizing entropy, we consider maximizing arbitrary unitarily invariant convex functions such as Fan norms and Schatten norms. To formalize and generalize the conjectured required alignment, we define alignment as a preorder on tuples of self-adjoint operators that is induced by majorization. We prove the generalized conjecture for Schatten norms of integer order, for the case where the freely chosen states are constrained to be classical, and for the case where only two states contribute to the mixture and Q is proportional to a projector. The last case fits into a more general situation where we give explicit conditions for maximal alignment. The spin alignment problem has a natural "dual" formulation, versions of which have further generalizations that we introduce.

Abstract:We study the occurrence of multipartite entanglement in spin chains. We showthat certain genuine multipartite entangled states, namely W states, can beobtained as ground states of simple XX type ferromagnetic spin chains in atransverse magnetic field, for any number of sites. Moreover, multipartiteentanglement is proven to exist even at finite temperatures. A transition froma product state to a multipartite entangled state occurs when decreasing themagnetic field to a critical value. Adiabatic passage through this point canthus lead to the generation of multipartite entanglement.
