Abstract:We prove a rough Itô formula for path-dependent functionals of $\alpha$-Hölder continuous paths for $\alpha\in(0,1)$. Our approach combines the sewing lemma and a Taylor approximation in terms of path-dependent derivatives.

Abstract:We develop the functional It\^o/path-dependent calculus with respect to fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H> \frac{1}{2}$. Firstly, two types of integrals are studied. The first type is Stratonovich integral, and the second type is Wick-It\^o integral. Then we establish the functional It\^o formulas for fractional Brownian motion, which extend the functional It\^o formulas in Dupire (2009) and Cont-Fourni\'e (2013) to the case of non-semimartingale. Finally, as an application, we deal with a class of fractional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs). A relation between fractional BSDEs and path-dependent partial differential equations (PDEs) is established.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a class of functionals subject to a duality restriction. The functional is of the form J(Ω,Ω*)=∫Ωf+∫Ω*g $\mathcal{J}\left({\Omega},{{\Omega}}^{{\ast}}\right)={\int }_{{\Omega}}f+{\int }_{{{\Omega}}^{{\ast}}}g$ , where f, g are given nonnegative functions in a manifold. The duality is a relation α(x, y) ≤ 0 ∀ x ∈ Ω, y ∈ Ω*, for a suitable function α. This model covers several geometric and physical applications. In this paper we review two topological methods introduced in the study of the functional, and discuss possible extensions of the methods to related problems.
Branched Itô formula and natural Itô-Stratonovich isomorphism

Abstract:Branched rough paths, defined as characters over the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra $\mathcal{H}_\mathrm{CK}$, constitute integration theories that may fail to satisfy the usual integration by parts identity. Using known results on the primitive elements of $\mathcal{H}_\mathrm{CK}$ we can view it as a commutative cofree Hopf algebra (i.e. a commutative $\mathbf{B}_\infty$-algebra) and thus write an explicit change-of-variable formula for solutions to rough differential equations. This formula, which is realised through an explicit morphism from the Grossman-Larson Hopf algebra to the Hopf algebra of differential operators, restricts to the well-known Itô formula in the very special case of semimartingales. In addition, we establish an isomorphism between $\mathcal{H}_\mathrm{CK}$ and the shuffle algebra over its primitives, which extends Hoffman's exponential for the quasi-shuffle algebra, and can therefore be viewed as a far-reaching generalisation of the usual Itô-Stratonovich correction formula for semimartingales. Indeed, this can be stated as a characterisation of the algebra structure of any commutative $\mathbf{B}_\infty$-algebra. Compared to previous approaches, this transformation has the key property of being natural in the decorating vector space. We study the one-dimensional case more closely, by introducing the branched analogue of the Kailath-Segall polynomials and Doléans-Dade exponential, and conclude with some examples of branched rough path lifts of a stochastic process which are not quasi-geometric.

In this regard, we present a local time-space version that works for arbitrary bounded and continuous functionals of Lévy processes and which does not depend on a functional's Hölder continuity.

Abstract:This paper introduces the path derivatives, in the spirit of Dupire's functional Itô calculus, for the controlled paths in the rough path theory with possibly non-geometric rough paths. The theory allows us to deal with rough integration and rough PDEs in the same manner as standard stochastic calculus. We next study rough PDEs with coefficients depending on the rough path itself, which corresponds to stochastic PDEs with random coefficients. Such coefficients is less regular in the time variable and is not covered in the existing literature. The results are useful for studying viscosity solutions of stochastic PDEs.

Abstract:We develop the integration theory of two-parameter controlled paths $Y$ allowing us to define integrals of the form \begin{equation} \int_{[s,t] \times [u,v]} Y_{r,r'} \;d(X_{r}, X_{r'}) \end{equation} where $X$ is the geometric $p$-rough path that controls $Y$. This extends to arbitrary regularity the definition presented for $2\leq p<3$ in the recent paper of Hairer and Gerasimovičs where it is used in the proof of a version of Hörmander's theorem for a class of SPDEs. We extend the Fubini type theorem of the same paper by showing that this two-parameter integral coincides with the two iterated one-parameter integrals \[ \int_{[s,t] \times [u,v]} Y_{r,r'} \;d(X_{r}, X_{r'}) = \int_{s}^{t} \int_{u}^{v} Y_{r,r'} \;dX_{r'} \;dX_{r'} = \int_{u}^{v} \int_{s}^{t} Y_{r,r'} \;dX_{r} \;dX_{r'}. \] A priori these three integrals have distinct definitions, and so this parallels the classical Fubini's theorem for product measures. By extending the two-parameter Young-Towghi inequality in this context, we derive a maximal inequality for the discrete integrals approximating the two-parameter integral. We also extend the analysis to consider integrals of the form \begin{equation*} \int_{[s,t] \times [u,v]} Y_{r,r'} \; d(X_{r}, \tilde{X}_{r'}) \end{equation*} for possibly different rough paths $X$ and $\tilde{X}$, and obtain the corresponding Fubini type theorem. We prove continuity estimates for these integrals in the appropriate rough path topologies. As an application we consider the signature kernel, which has recently emerged as a useful tool in data science, as an example of a two-parameter controlled rough path which also solves a two-parameter rough integral equation.

Abstract:We derive a functional change of variable formula for {\it non-anticipative} functionals defined on the space of right continuous paths with left limits. The functional is only required to possess certain directional derivatives, which may be computed pathwise. Our results lead to functional extensions of the Ito formula for a large class of stochastic processes, including semimartingales and Dirichlet processes. In particular, we show the stability of the class of semimartingales under certain functional transformations. Abstract:Similar to ordinary differential equations, rough paths and rough differential equations can be formulated in a Banach space setting. For $\alpha\in (1/3,1/2)$, we give criteria for when we can approximate Banach space-valued weakly geometric $\alpha$-rough paths by signatures of curves of bounded variation, given some tuning of the Hölder parameter. We show that these criteria are satisfied for weakly geometric rough paths on Hilbert spaces. As an application, we obtain Wong-Zakai type result for function space valued martingales using the notion of (unbounded) rough drivers.

Abstract:Within the context of rough path analysis via fractional calculus, we show how the notion of variability can be used to prove the existence of integrals with respect to Hölder continuous multiplicative functionals in the case of Lipschitz coefficients with first order partial derivatives of bounded variation. We verify our condition for a class of Gaussian processes, including fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (\frac13, \frac12]$ in one and two dimensions.

On the Itô-Alekseev-Gröbner formula for stochastic differential equations

Abstract:In this article we establish a new formula for the difference of a test function of the solution of a stochastic differential equation and of the test function of an Itô process. The introduced formula essentially generalizes both the classical Alekseev-Gröbner formula from the literature on deterministic differential equations as well as the classical Itô formula from stochastic analysis. The proposed Itô-Alekseev-Gröbner formula is a powerful tool for deriving strong approximation rates for perturbations and approximations of stochastic ordinary and partial differential equations.

Abstract:This paper develops an Itô-type fractional pathwise integration theory for fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameters $ H \in (\frac{1}{3}, \frac{1}{2}] $, using the Lyons' rough path framework. This approach is designed to fill gaps in conventional stochastic calculus models that fail to account for temporal persistence prevalent in dynamic systems such as those found in economics, finance, and engineering. The pathwise-defined method not only meets the zero expectation criterion but also addresses the challenges of integrating non-semimartingale processes, which traditional Itô calculus cannot handle. We apply this theory to fractional Black-Scholes models and high-dimensional fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, illustrating the advantages of this approach. Additionally, the paper discusses the generalization of Itô integrals to rough differential equations (RDE) driven by fBM, emphasizing the necessity of integrand-specific adaptations in the Itô rough path lift for stochastic modeling.

Abstract:We provide an Itô's formula for $C^1$-functionals of flows of conditional marginal distributions of continuous semimartingales. This is based on the notion of weak Dirichlet process, and extends the $C^1$-Itô's formula in Gozzi and Russo (2006) to this context. As the first application, we study a class of McKean-Vlasov optimal control problems, and establish a verification theorem which only requires $C^1$-regularity of its value function, which is equivalently the (viscosity) solution of the associated HJB master equation. It goes together with a novel duality result.

Abstract:We present two novel methods for approximating minimizers of the abstract Rayleigh quotient $\Phi(u)/ \|u\|^p$. Here $\Phi$ is a strictly convex functional on a Banach space with norm $\|\cdot\|$, and $\Phi$ is assumed to be positively homogeneous of degree $p\in (1,\infty)$. Minimizers are shown to satisfy $\partial \Phi(u)- \lambda\mathcal{J}_p(u)\ni 0$ for a certain $\lambda\in \mathbb{R}$, where $\mathcal{J}_p$ is the subdifferential of $\frac{1}{p}\|\cdot\|^p$. The first approximation scheme is based on inverse iteration for square matrices and involves sequences that satisfy $$ \partial \Phi(u_k)- \mathcal{J}_p(u_{k-1})\ni 0 \quad (k\in \mathbb{N}). $$ The second method is based on the large time behavior of solutions of the doubly nonlinear evolution $$ \mathcal{J}_p(\dot v(t))+\partial\Phi(v(t))\ni 0 \quad(a.e.\;t>0) $$ and more generally $p$-curves of maximal slope for $\Phi$. We show that both schemes have the remarkable property that the Rayleigh quotient is nonincreasing along solutions and that properly scaled solutions converge to a minimizer of $\Phi(u)/ \|u\|^p$. These results are new even for Hilbert spaces and their primary application is in the approximation of optimal constants and extremal functions for inequalities in Sobolev spaces.

Abstract:We prove a real interpolation characterization for some non Euclidean Hölder spaces, built on the Lie structure induced by a class of ultra-parabolic Kolmogorov-type operators satisfying the Hörmander condition. Abstract:Extending Itô's formula to non-smooth functions is important both in theory and applications. One of the fairly general extensions of the formula, known as Meyer-Itô, applies to one dimensional semimartingales and convex functions. There are also satisfactory generalizations of Itô's formula for diffusion processes where the Meyer-Itô assumptions are weakened even further. We study a version of Itô's formula for multi-dimensional finite variation Lévy processes assuming that the underlying function is continuous and admits weak derivatives. We also discuss some applications of this extension, particularly in finance.

Abstract:In a recent paper, the author introduced a rich class $NC^k(\mathbb{R})$ of "noncommutative $C^k$" functions $\mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{C}$ whose operator functional calculus is $k$-times differentiable and has derivatives expressible in terms of multiple operator integrals (MOIs). In the present paper, we explore a connection between free stochastic calculus and the theory of MOIs by proving an Itô formula for noncommutative $C^2$ functions of self-adjoint free Itô processes. To do this, we first extend P. Biane and R. Speicher's theory of free stochastic calculus -- including their free Itô formula for polynomials -- to allow free Itô processes driven by multidimensional semicircular Brownian motions. Then, in the self-adjoint case, we reinterpret the objects appearing in the free Itô formula for polynomials in terms of MOIs. This allows us to enlarge the class of functions for which one can formulate and prove a free Itô formula from the space originally considered by Biane and Speicher (Fourier transforms of complex measures with two finite moments) to the strictly larger space $NC^2(\mathbb{R})$. Along the way, we also obtain a useful "traced" Itô formula for arbitrary $C^2$ scalar functions of self-adjoint free Itô processes. Finally, as motivation, we study an Itô formula for $C^2$ scalar functions of $N \times N$ Hermitian matrix Itô processes.
