Abstract:Let $(A_0, A_1)$ be a compatible couple of quasi-normed spaces, and let $\Phi_0$ and $\Phi_1$ be two general parameters of $K$-interpolation method. We compute $K$-functional for the couple $((A_0,A_1)_{\Phi_0}, (A_0, A_1)_{\Phi_1})$ in terms of $K$-functional for the couple $(A_0, A_1)$.

Abstract:The paper provides a detailed study of crucial inequalities for smoothness and interpolation characteristics in rearrangement invariant Banach function spaces. We present a unified approach based on Holmstedt formulas to obtain these estimates. As examples, we derive new inequalities for moduli of smoothness and K-functionals in various Lorentz spaces.

Abstract:In a seminal paper, Sarason generalized some classical interpolation problems for H(infinity) functions on the unit disc to problems concerning lifting onto H(2) of an operator T that is defined on K=H(2)circle minus phi H(2) (phi is an inner function) and commutes with the (compressed) shift S. In particular, he showed that interpolants (i.e., f is an element of H(infinity) such that f(S)=T) having norm equal to parallel to T parallel to exist, and that in certain cases such an f is unique and can be expressed as a fraction f=b/a with a, b is an element of K. In this paper, we study interpolants that are such fractions of K functions and are bounded in norm by 1 (assuming that parallel to T parallel to<1, in which case they always exist). We parameterize the collection of all such pairs (a, b)is an element of K x K and show that each interpolant of this type can be determined as the unique minimum of a convex functional. Our motivation stems from the relevance of classical interpolation to circuit theory, systems theory, and signal processing, where phi is typically a finite Blaschke product, and where the quotient representation is a physically meaningful complexity constraint.

Abstract:Let ${\mathcal M}$ be a semifinite von Neumann algebra with a faithful semifinite normal trace $\tau $. We show that the symmetrically $\Delta $-normed operator space $E({\mathcal M},\tau )$ corresponding to an arbitrary symmetrically $\Delta $-normed function space $E(0,\infty )$ is an interpolation space between $L_0({\mathcal M},\tau )$ and ${\mathcal M}$, which is in contrast with the classical result that there exist symmetric operator spaces $E({\mathcal M},\tau )$ which are not interpolation spaces between $L_1({\mathcal M},\tau )$ and ${\mathcal M}$. Besides, we show that the ${\mathcal K}$-functional of every $X\in L_0({\mathcal M},\tau )+{\mathcal M}$ coincides with the ${\mathcal K}$-functional of its generalized singular value function $\mu (X)$. Several applications are given, e.g., it is shown that the pair $(L_0({\mathcal M},\tau ),{\mathcal M})$ is ${\mathcal K}$-monotone when ${\mathcal M}$ is a non-atomic finite factor.

Abstract:A generalized form of certain integral inequalities investigated by Guessab, Schmeisser and Alomari is given. The trapezoidal, midpoint, Simpson, Newton–Simpson rules are obtained as special cases. Also, inequalities for the generalized Alomari functional in terms of n-th order moduli are given and applied to some known quadrature rules.

Abstract:In a well-known paper (1), Sarason generalized some classical interpolation problems for H1 functions on the unit disc with norm not greater than one to problems concerning operators on a coinvariant subspace K = H2 H 2, where is an inner function. These operators have norm not greater than one, and, among his results, he studied the structure of gener- alized interpolants for operators having norm one. In a variety of interesting cases, there is a unique such interpolant, which is given by the quotient of functions in K. Following (2), in this talk we consider the case where the operator is a strict contraction. There turns out to be an innite number of interpolants that are such quotients, and we give a complete parameteriza- tion of these. Each such interpolant can be obtained as the unique minimizer to a strictly convex functional. Our methodology follows that of (3, 4) (also see references therein) and is inspired by the engineering applications of classical interpolation problems in circuits, systems and signal processing, cases which all deal with the situation where is a nite Blaschke product and in which the quotient representation is physically natural. We give several examples of such applications. We also demonstrate that the case when is a singular inner function has a natural systems-theoretical interpretation.

Abstract:In this paper we obtain new quantitative estimates that improve the classical inequalities: Poincaré–Ponce, Gaussian Sobolev, and John–Nirenberg. Our method is based on the K -functionals and allows one to derive self-improving type inequalities. We show the optimality of the method by obtaining new Bourgain–Brezis–Mironescu and Maz'ya–Shaposhnikova limiting formulas. In particular, we derive these formulas for fractional powers of infinitesimal generators of operator semigroups on Banach spaces.

Abstract:As in the work of Tartar ( Tartar L. Interpolation non lin\'eaire et r\'egularit\'e, 9, Journal of Functional Analysis, (1972), 469-489) we developed here some new results on non linear interpolation of $\alpha$-H\"olderian mappings between normed spaces, namely, by studying the action of the mappings on $K$-functionals and between interpolation spaces with logarithm functors. We apply those results to obtain regularity results on the gradient of the solution to quasilinear equations of the form $$-div(\widehat a(\nabla u ))+V(u)=f, $$ whenever $V$ is a nonlinear potential, $f$ belongs to non standard spaces as Lorentz-Zygmund spaces. We show among other that the mapping $T: \ Tf=\nabla u$ is locally or globally $\alpha$-H\"olderian under suitable values of $\alpha$ and adequate hypothesis on $V$ and $\widehat a.$

Abstract:We give a universal formula describing derivation operators on a Hilbert space for a large class of interpolation methods. It is based on a simple new technique on "critical points" where all the derivations attain the maximum. We deduce from this a version of Kalton uniqueness theorem for such methods, in particular, for the real method. As an application of our ideas is the construction of a weak Hilbert space induced by the real J -method. Previously, such space was only known arising from the complex method. To complete the picture, we show, using a breakthrough of Johnson and Szankowski, nontrivial derivations whose values on the critical points grow to infinity as slowly as we wish.

Abstract:We study critical points of natural functionals on various spaces of almost Hermitian structures on a compact manifold . We present a general framework, introducing the notion of gradient of an almost Hermitian functional. As a consequence of the diffeomorphism invariance, we show that a Schur's type theorem still holds for general almost Hermitian functionals, generalizing a known fact for Riemannian functionals. We present two concrete examples, the Gauduchon's functional and a close relative of it. These functionals have been studied previously, but not in the most general setup as we do here, and we make some new observations about their critical points.

On an optimal interpolation formula in $K_2(P_2)$ space

Abstract:The paper is devoted to the construction of an optimal interpolation formula in $K_2(P_2)$ Hilbert space. Here the interpolation formula consists of a linear combination $\sum_{\beta=0}^NC_{\beta}(z)\varphi(x_\beta)$ of given values of a function $\varphi$ from the space $K_2(P_2)$. The difference between functions and the interpolation formula is considered as a linear functional called the error functional. The error of the interpolation formula is estimated by the norm of the error functional. We obtain the optimal interpolation formula by minimizing the norm of the error functional by coefficients $C_{\beta}(z)$ of the interpolation formula. The obtained optimal interpolation formula is exact for trigonometric functions $\sin\omega x$ and $\cos\omega x$. At the end of the paper, we give some numerical results which confirm our theoretical results.

Abstract:By adopting the direct method and fixed point method, we prove that the Hyers-Ulam stability of the following additive-quadratic functional equation \begin{equation} f(x+y, z+w)+f(x-y, z-w)-2 f(x, z)-2 f(x, w)=0 \end{equation} in $\beta$-homogeneous $F$-spaces and quasi-Banach spaces. There are some differences that we consider the target space with the $\beta$-homogeneous norm and quasi-norm. Overcoming the $\beta$-homogeneous norm and quasi-norm bottlenecks, we get some new results.

Abstract:We consider a nonlocal functional equation that is a generalization of the mathematical model used in behavioral sciences. The equation is built upon an operator that introduces a convex combination and a nonlinear mixing of the function arguments. We show that, provided some growth conditions of the coefficients, there exists a unique solution in the natural Lipschitz space. Furthermore, we prove that the regularity of the solution is inherited from the smoothness properties of the coefficients. As a natural numerical method to solve the general case, we consider the collocation scheme of piecewise linear functions. We prove that the method converges with the error bounded by the error of projecting the Lipschitz function onto the piecewise linear polynomial space. Moreover, provided sufficient regularity of the coefficients, the scheme is of the second order measured in the supremum norm. A series of numerical experiments verify the proved claims and show that the implementation is computationally cheap and exceeds the frequently used Picard iteration by orders of magnitude in the calculation time.

Additive kinematic formulas for convex functions

Abstract:We prove a functional version of the additive kinematic formula as an application of the Hadwiger theorem on convex functions together with a Kubota-type formula for mixed Monge-Ampère measures. As an application, we give a new explanation for the equivalence of the representations of functional intrinsic volumes as singular Hessian valuations and as integrals with respect to mixed Monge-Ampère measures. In addition, we obtain a new integral geometric formula for mixed area measures of convex bodies, where integration on $\operatorname{SO}(n-1)\times \operatorname{O}(1)$ is considered.

Abstract:Let $H$ be a separable complex Hilbert space. A conjugate-linear map $C:H\to H$ is a conjugation if it is an involutive isometry. In this paper, we consider the following interpolation problems: Let $\{x_i\}_{i\in I}$ and $\{y_i\}_{i\in I}$ be two orthogonal sets of vectors in $H$, and let $N$ and $\{N_k\}_{k\in K}$ be normal operators such that the $N_k$'s mutually commute. Then, under which conditions does there exist a conjugation $C$ on $H$ such that (a) $Cx_i=y_i$ and $CN_kC=N_k^*$ for all $i\in I$ and $k\in K$; or (b) $Cx_i=y_i$, for every $i\in I$, and $CNC=-N^*$. Using the spectral projections of normal operators, we provide complete answers to problems (a) and (b). As an application, we characterize hyperinvariant subspaces of normal operators using conjugations. Additionally, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to certain equations in $L^{\infty}(\mu)$.

Abstract:The $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $k$-Schur functions appeared in the study of $K$-theoretic and affine Schubert Calculus as polynomial representatives of Schubert classes. In this paper, we introduce a new family of symmetric functions $\mathcal{F}_\lambda^{(k)}$, that generalizes the constructions via the Pieri rule of $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $ k$-Schur functions. Then we obtain the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for the generalized functions. The rule is described explicitly in the cases of $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $k$-Schur functions, with concrete descriptions and algorithms for coefficients. Our work recovers the result of Bandlow, Schilling, and Zabrocki for $k$-Schur functions, and explains it as a degeneration of the rule for $K$-$k$-Schur functions. In particular, many other special cases and connections promise to be detailed in the future.
