Abstract:Let X be the Laplacian random variable with parameters (a,b)=(0,1), and let X1, X2, X3 , ...be a sequence of mutually independent copies of X$. In this note, we explicitly determine the moments of the Laplacian random variable in terms of the Bernoulli and Euler numbers.

However, up to now, the results of this kind have all required the existence of moments. In this paper we try to drop this condition. The existing results with moment conditions become special cases of our theorems.

Abstract:Let {Xn;n≥1} be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables on a sub-linear expectation space (Ω,ℋ,Ê), Sn=X1+…+Xn. We consider the moments of maxn≥1|Sn|/2nloglogn. The sufficient and necessary conditions for the moments to be finite are given. As an application, we obtain the law of the iterated logarithm for moving average processes of independent and identically distributed random variables.

Abstract:Let {Zn,n≥1} be a sequence of independent nonnegative r.v.’s (random variables) with finite second moments. It is shown that under a Lindeberg-type condition, the αth inverse moment E{a+Xn}−α can be asymptotically approximated by the inverse of the αth moment {a+EXn}−α where a>0,α>0, and {Xn} are the naturally-scaled partial sums. Furthermore, it is shown that, when {Zn} only possess finite rth moments, 1≤r<2, the preceding asymptotic approximation can still be valid by using different norming constants which are the standard deviations of partial sums of suitably truncated {Zn}.

The aim of this paper is to introduce and study the probabilistic extension of Bernoulli polynomials and Euler polynomials, namely the probabilistic Bernoulli polynomials associated and the probabilistic Euler polynomials associated with . Also, we introduce the probabilistic -Stirling numbers of the second associated , the probabilistic two variable Fubini polynomials associated , and the probabilistic poly-Bernoulli polynomials associated with . We obtain some properties, explicit expressions, certain identities and recurrence relations for those polynomials. As special cases of , we treat the gamma random variable with parameters , the Poisson random variable with parameter , and the Bernoulli random variable with probability of success .

Moments of Gamma type and three-parametric Mittag-Leffler function

Abstract:We study a class of positive random variables having moments of Gamma type, whose density can be expressed by the three-parametric Mittag-Leffler functions. We give some necessary conditions and some sufficient conditions for their existence. As a corollary, we give some conditions for non-negativity of the three-parametric Mittag-Leffler functions. As an application, we study the infinite divisibility of the powers of half $\a$-Cauchy variable. In addition, we find that a random variable $\X$ having moment of Gamma type if and only if $\log \X$ is quasi infinitely divisible. From this perspective, we can solve many Hausdorff moment problems of sequences of factorial ratios.

Abstract:We investigate certain positive random variables having moments of Gamma type. Some necessary and some sufficient conditions are given for their existence. In particular, we observe that the Weber-Schafheitlin formula for the Bessel function makes it possible to construct non-trivial moments of Gamma type having a signed spectral measure.

Abstract:Recently, many authors have studied degenerate Bernoulli and degenerate Euler polynomials. Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study a dimorphic property associated with two different sums of identically independent Bernoulli random variables having two different families of probability mass functions. We also investigate explicit expressions for the modified probabilisitc Bernoulli numbers associated with Y , which are slightly different from probabilisitic Bernoulli numbers associated with Y . As special cases of Y , we treat the Poisson, gamma and Bernoulli random variables.

Abstract:We provide several simple recursive formulae for the moment sequence of infinite Bernoulli convolution. We relate moments of one infinite Bernoulli convolution with others having different but related parameters. We give examples relating Euler numbers to the moments of infinite Bernoulli convolutions. One of the examples provides moment interpretation of Pell numbers as well as new identities satisfied by Pell and Lucas numbers.

Abstract: We investigate a recursively generated sequence of random variables that begins with an Exponential random variable with parameter (i.e., inverse-mean) 1, and continues with additional Exponentials, each of whose random parameter possesses the distribution of the prior term in the sequence. Although such sequences enjoy some (limited) applicability as models of parameter uncertainty, our present interest is primarily theoretical. Specifically, we observe that the implied sequence of distribution functions manifests a surprising connection to two well-known mathematical quantities first studied by Leonhard Euler: the Euler-Gompertz and Euler-Mascheroni constants. Through a close analysis of one member of this distribution-function sequence, we are able to shed new light on these constants.
Absolute moments of the variance-gamma distribution

Abstract:We obtain exact formulas for the absolute raw and central moments of the variance-gamma distribution, as infinite series involving the modified Bessel function of the second kind and the modified Lommel function of the first kind. When the skewness parameter is equal to zero (the symmetric variance-gamma distribution), the infinite series reduces to a single term. Moreover, for the case that the shape parameter is a half-integer (in our parameterisation of the variance-gamma distribution), we obtain a closed-form expression for the absolute moments in terms of confluent hypergeometric functions. As a consequence, we deduce new exact formulas for the absolute raw and central moments of the asymmetric Laplace distribution and the product of two correlated zero mean normal random variables, and more generally the sum of independent copies of such random variables.

The moment problem for random objects in a category

Abstract:The moment problem in probability theory asks for criteria for when there exists a unique measure with a given tuple of moments. We study a variant of this problem for random objects in a category, where a moment is given by the average number of epimorphisms to a fixed object. When the moments do not grow too fast, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of a distribution with those moments, show that a unique such measure exists, give formulas for the measure in terms of the moments, and prove that measures with those limiting moments approach that particular measure. Our result applies to categories satisfying some finiteness conditions and a condition that gives an analog of the second isomorphism theorem, including the categories of finite groups, finite modules, finite rings, as well as many variations of these categories. This work is motivated by the non-abelian Cohen-Lenstra-Martinet program in number theory, which aims to calculate the distribution of random profinite groups arising as Galois groups of maximal unramified extensions of random number fields.
