Abstract:In this article we study the decoupling structure and multipoint moment of the inverse of the Gaussian multiplicative chaos. It is also the second part of preliminary work for extending the work in "Random conformal weldings" (by K. Astala, P. Jones, A. Kupiainen, E. Saksman) to the existence of Lehto welding for the inverse. In particular, we prove that the dilatation of the inverse homeomorphism on the positive real line is in $L^{1}([0,1]\times[0,2])$.

Abstract:We develop a novel decoupling inequality for nonhomogeneous order 2 non-Gaussian chaoses. Having this decoupling inequality, we show two types of the p-th moment bounds for the suprema of a log-concave-tailed chaos process based on some chaining techniques and the generalized majorizing measure theorems for canonical processes. As applications, we show the restricted isometry property of partial random circulant matrices and time-frequency structured random matrices induced by standard α-subexponential vectors, 1≤α≤ 2, which extends the previously known results for the sub-Gaussian case.

Abstract:Given $d\ge 1$, we provide a construction of the random measure - the critical Gaussian Multiplicative Chaos - formally defined $e^{\sqrt{2d}X}\mathrm{d} \mu$ where $X$ is a $\log$-correlated Gaussian field and $\mu$ is a locally finite measure on $\mathbb R^d$. Our construction generalizes the one performed in the case where $\mu$ is the Lebesgue measure. It requires that the measure $\mu$ is sufficiently spread out, namely that for $\mu$ almost every $x$ we have $$ \int_{B(0,1)}\frac{\mu(\mathrm{d} y)}{|x-y|^{d}e^{\rho\left(\log \frac{1}{|x-y|} \right)}}<\infty, $$ for any compact set where $\rho:\mathbb R_+\to \mathbb R_+$ can be chosen to be any lower envelope function for the $3$-Bessel process (this includes $\rho(x)=x^{\alpha}$ with $\alpha\in (0,1/2)$). We prove that three distinct random objects converge to a common limit which defines the critical GMC: the derivative martingale, the critical martingale, and the exponential of the mollified field. We also show that the above criterion for the measure $\mu$ is in a sense optimal.

Abstract:We determine the exact threshold of the extended Seiberg bound for the existence of correlation functions in the boundary Liouville conformal field theory in the unit disk. In probabilistic terms, our result is a toolbox yielding the threshold for the existence of positive moments of Gaussian multiplicative chaos measure, appliable to the case where singularities of arbitrary (co-)dimension in the background metric are present. We improve previous results of this type for 0-dimensional singularities in [DKRV16] and a sufficient condition for the 1-dimensional singularity in an unpublished appendix of [HRV18]. In particular, we prove the optimality of the moment bound threshold for boundary Gaussian multiplicative chaos conjectured in [HRV18], which is equivalent to the so-called unit volume Seiberg bound of the boundary Liouville conformal field theory.

Abstract:The aim of this review-style paper is to provide a concise, self-contained and unified presentation of the construction and main properties of Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC) measures for log-correlated fields in 2D in the subcritical regime. By considering the case of the 2D Gaussian free field, we review convergence, uniqueness and characterisations of the measures; revisit Kahane's convexity inequalities and existence and scaling of moments; discuss the measurability of the underlying field with respect to the GMC measure and present a KPZ relation for scaling exponents.

Abstract:In this article, we consider the multiplicative chaos measure associated to the log-correlated random Fourier series, or random wave model, with i.i.d. coefficients taken from a general class of distributions. This measure was shown to be non-degenerate when the inverse temperature is subcritical by Junnila (Int. Math. Res. Not. 2020 (2020), no. 19, 6169-6196). When the coefficients are Gaussian, this measure is an example of a Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC), a well-studied universal object in the study of log-correlated fields. In the case of non-Gaussian coefficients, the resulting chaos is not a GMC in general. However, for inverse temperature inside the $L^1$-regime, we construct a coupling between the non-Gaussian multiplicative chaos measure and a GMC such that the two are almost surely mutually absolutely continuous.

Abstract:Consider a log-correlated Gaussian field $\Gamma$ and its associated imaginary multiplicative chaos $:e^{i \beta \Gamma}:$ where $\beta$ is a real parameter. In [AJJ22], we showed that for any nonzero test function $f$, the law of $\int f :e^{i \beta \Gamma}:$ possesses a smooth density with respect to Lebesgue measure on $\mathbb{C}$. In this note, we show that this density is strictly positive everywhere on $\mathbb{C}$. Our simple and direct strategy could be useful for studying other functionals on Gaussian spaces.

Abstract:The complex Gaussian Multiplicative Chaos (or complex GMC) is informally defined as a random measure $e^{\gamma X} \mathrm{d} x$ where $X$ is a log correlated Gaussian field on $\mathbb R^d$ and $\gamma=\alpha+i\beta$ is a complex parameter. The correlation function of $X$ is of the form $$ K(x,y)= \log \frac{1}{|x-y|}+ L(x,y),$$ where $L$ is a continuous function. In the present paper, we consider the cases $\gamma\in \mathcal P_{\mathrm{I/II}}$ and $\gamma\in \mathcal{P}'_{\mathrm{II/III}}$ where $$ \mathcal P_{\mathrm{I/II}}:= \{ \alpha+i \beta \ : \alpha,\beta \in \mathbb R \ ; |\alpha|>|\beta| \ ; \ |\alpha|+|\beta|=\sqrt{2d} \}, $$ and $$ \mathcal{P}'_{\mathrm{II/III}}:= \{ \alpha+i \beta \ : \alpha,\beta \in \mathbb R \ ; \ |\alpha|= \sqrt{d/2} \ ; \ |\beta|>\sqrt{2d} \},$$ We prove that if $X$ is replaced by an approximation $X_\epsilon$ obtained via mollification, then $e^{\gamma X_\epsilon} \mathrm{d} x$, when properly rescaled, converges when $\epsilon\to 0$. The limit does not depend on the mollification kernel. When $\gamma\in \mathcal P_{\mathrm{I/II}}$, the convergence holds in probability and in $L^p$ for some value of $p\in [1,\sqrt{2d}/\alpha)$. When $\gamma\in \mathcal{P}'_{\mathrm{II/III}}$ the convergence holds only in law. In this latter case, the limit can be described a complex Gaussian white noise with a random intensity given by a critical real GMC. The regions $\mathcal P_{\mathrm{I/II}}$ and $ \mathcal{P}'_{\mathrm{II/III}}$ correspond to phase boundary between the three different regions of the complex GMC phase diagram. These results complete previous results obtained for the GMC in phase I and III and only leave as an open problem the question of convergence in phase II.

Abstract:Recognizing the regime of positive definiteness for a strictly logarithmic covariance kernel, we prove that the small deviations of a related Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC) $M_\gamma$ are for each natural dimension $d$ always of lognormal type, i.e. the upper and lower limits as $t\to \infty$ of $$ -\ln\Big(\mathbb{P}(M_\gamma(B(0,r))\le \delta \Big)/(\ln \delta)^2 $$ are finite and bounded away from zero. We then place the small deviations in the context of Laplace transforms of $M_\gamma$ and discuss the explicit bounds on the associated constants. We also provide some new representations of the Laplace transform of GMC related to a strictly logarithmic covariance kernel.

Abstract:As represented by the Liouville measure, Gaussian multiplicative chaos is a random measure constructed from a Gaussian field. Under certain technical assumptions, we prove the convergence of a process time-changed by Gaussian multiplicative chaos in the case the latter object is square integrable (the $L^2$-regime). As examples of the main result, we prove that, in the whole $L^2$-regime, the scaling limit of the Liouville simple random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^2$ is Liouville Brownian motion and, as $\alpha \to 1$, Liouville $\alpha$-stable processes on $\mathbb{R}$ converge weakly to the Liouville Cauchy process.

Abstract:Motivated by previous work on moment varieties for Gaussian distributions and their mixtures, we study moment varieties for two other statistically important two-parameter distributions: the inverse Gaussian and gamma distributions. In particular, we realize the moment varieties as determinantal varieties and find their degrees and singularities. We also provide computational evidence for algebraic identifiability of mixtures, and study the identifiability degree and Euclidean distance degree.

Abstract:In this paper, we initiate the harmonic analysis of Gaussian multiplicative chaos (GMC) on the circle, i.e. the study of its Fourier coefficients. In particular, we show that almost surely GMC is a so-called Rajchman measure which means that its Fourier coefficients converge to $0$ when the frequency goes to infinity. We supplement this result with a convergence in law result for the rescaled Fourier coefficients.

Abstract:This paper studies a Stieltjes-type moment problem defined by the generalized lognormal distribution, a heavy-tailed distribution with applications in economics, finance and related fields. It arises as the distribution of the exponential of a random variable following a generalized error distribution, and hence figures prominently in the EGARCH model of asset price volatility. Compared to the classical lognormal distribution it has an additional shape parameter. It emerges that moment (in)determinacy depends on the value of this parameter: for some values, the distribution does not have finite moments of all orders, hence the moment problem is not of interest in these cases. For other values, the distribution has moments of all orders, yet it is moment-indeterminate. Finally, a limiting case is supported on a bounded interval, and hence determined by its moments. For those generalized lognormal distributions that are moment-indeterminate Stieltjes classes of moment-equivalent distributions are presented.

Abstract:We study a class of positive random variables having moments of Gamma type, whose density can be expressed by the three-parametric Mittag-Leffler functions. We give some necessary conditions and some sufficient conditions for their existence. As a corollary, we give some conditions for non-negativity of the three-parametric Mittag-Leffler functions. As an application, we study the infinite divisibility of the powers of half $\a$-Cauchy variable. In addition, we find that a random variable $\X$ having moment of Gamma type if and only if $\log \X$ is quasi infinitely divisible. From this perspective, we can solve many Hausdorff moment problems of sequences of factorial ratios.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain a $p$-th moment bound for the suprema of a log-concave-tailed nonhomogeneous chaos process, which is optimal in some special cases. A crucial ingredient of the proof is a novel decoupling inequality, which may be of independent interest. With this $p$-th moment bound, we show two uniform Hanson-Wright type deviation inequalities for $\alpha$-subexponential entries ($1\le \alpha\le 2$), which recover some known results. As applications, we prove the restricted isometry property of partial random circulant matrices and time-frequency structured random matrices induced by standard $\alpha$-subexponential vectors ($1\le \alpha\le 2$), which extends the previously known results for the subgaussian case.

Abstract:We investigate the low moments $\mathbb{E}[|A_N|^{2q}], 0<q\leq 1$ of {secular coefficients} $A_N$ of the {critical non-Gaussian holomorphic multiplicative chaos}, i.e. coefficients of $z^N$ in the power series expansion of $\exp(\sum_{k=1}^\infty X_kz^k/\sqrt{k})$, where $\{X_k\}_{k\geq 1}$ are i.i.d. rotationally invariant unit variance complex random variables. Inspired by Harper's remarkable result on random multiplicative functions, Soundararajan and Zaman recently showed that if each $X_k$ is standard complex Gaussian, $A_N$ features better-than-square-root cancellation: $\mathbb{E}[|A_N|^2]=1$ and $\mathbb{E}[|A_N|^{2q}]\asymp (\log N)^{-q/2}$ for fixed $q\in(0,1)$ as $N\to\infty$. We show that this asymptotic holds universally if $\mathbb{E}[e^{\gamma|X_k|}]<\infty$ for some $\gamma>2q$. As a consequence, we establish the universality for the tightness of the normalized secular coefficients $A_N(\log(1+N))^{1/4}$, generalizing a result of Najnudel, Paquette, and Simm. Another corollary is the almost sure regularity of some critical non-Gaussian holomorphic chaos in appropriate Sobolev spaces. Moreover, we characterize the asymptotic of $\mathbb{E}[|A_N|^{2q}]$ for $|X_k|$ following a stretched exponential distribution with an arbitrary scale parameter, which exhibits a completely different behavior and underlying mechanism from the Gaussian universality regime. As a result, we unveil a double-layer phase transition around the critical case of exponential tails. Our proofs combine Harper's robust approach with a careful analysis of the (possibly random) leading terms in the monomial decomposition of $A_N$.

Abstract:Let Λ be an n -dimensional lattice. For any n -dimensional vector c and positive real number s , let Ds,c and DΛ,s,c denote the continuous Gaussian distribution and the discrete Gaussian distribution over Λ , respectively. In this paper, we establish the exact relationship between the second and fourth moments centered around c of the discrete Gaussian distribution DΛ,s,c and those of the continuous Gaussian distribution Ds,c , respectively. This provides a quantization form of the result obtained by Micciancio and Regev on the second and fourth moments of discrete Gaussian distribution. Using the relationship, we also derive an uncertainty principle for Gaussian functions, which extend the result of Zheng, Zhao, and Xu. Our proof is based on combination of the idea of Micciancio and Regev and the idea of Zheng, Zhao, and Xu, where the main tool is high-dimensional Fourier transform.
