Abstract:Two flat sub-Lorentzian problems on the Martinet distribution are studied. For the first one, the attainable set has a nontrivial intersection with the Martinet plane, but for the second one it does not. Attainable sets, optimal trajectories, sub-Lorentzian distances and spheres are described.

Abstract:We study the local structure of vector fields on $\mathbb{R}^3$ which preserve the Martinet $1$-form $\alpha=(1+x)dy\pm zdz$. We present the classification of their singularities, up to diffeomorphisms preserving the form $\alpha$, as well as their transversal unfoldings. We are thus able to provide a fairly complete list of the bifurcations such vector fields undergo.

Abstract:We construct normal forms for Lorentzian metrics on Engel distributions under the assumption that abnormal curves are timelike future directed Hamiltonian geodesics. Then we indicate some cases in which the abnormal timelike future directed curve initiating at the origin is geometrically optimal. We also give certain estimates for reachable sets from a point.

Using methods of geometric control theory and differential geometry, it was possible to construct an orthonormal frame, calculate extremal trajectories, describe the reachable set, construct an optimal synthesis, and describe the Lorentzian distance.

Abstract:In classical optimal transport, the contributions of Benamou$-$Brenier and McCann regarding the time-dependent version of the problem are cornerstones of the field and form the basis for a variety of applications in other mathematical areas. Stretched Brownian motion provides an analogue for the martingale version of this problem. In this article we provide a characterization in terms of gradients of convex functions, similar to the characterization of optimizers in the classical transport problem for quadratic distance cost.

Abstract:We consider a left-invariant (sub-)Lorentzian structure on a Lie group. We assume that this structure is defined by a closed convex salient cone in the corresponding Lie algebra and a continuous antinorm associated with this cone. We derive the Hamiltonian system for (sub-)Lorentzian extremals and give conditions under that normal extremal trajectories keep their causal type. Tangent vectors of abnormal extremal trajectories are either light-like or tangent vectors of sub-Riemannian extremal trajectories for the sub-Riemannian distribution spanned by the cone.

On the Martin Boundary of Rank 1 Manifolds with Nonpositive Curvature

Abstract:For a manifold with nonpositive curvature, the Martin boundary is described by the behavior of normalized Green’s functions at infinity. A classical result by Anderson and Schoen states that if the manifold has pinched negative curvature, the geometric boundary is the same as the Martin boundary. In this paper, we study the Martin boundary of rank 1 manifolds admitting compact quotients. It is proved that a residual set in the geometric boundary can be identified naturally with a subset of the Martin boundary. This gives a partial answer to one of the open problems in geometry collected by Yau.

Abstract:Let E be the Engel group and D be a rank 2 bracket generating left invariant distribution with a Lorentzian metric, which is a nondegenerate metric of index 1. In this paper, we first prove that timelike normal extremals are locally maximizing. Second, we obtain a parametrization of timelike, spacelike, lightlike normal extremal trajectories by Jacobi functions. Third, a discrete symmetry group and its fixed points which are Maxwell points of of timelike and spacelike normal extremals, are described. An estimate for the cut time (the time of loss of optimality) on extremal trajectories is derived on this basis.

Abstract:We call the Lie algebra of a Lie group with a left invariant pseudo-Riemannian flat metric pseudo-Riemannian flat Lie algebra. We give a new proof of a classical result of Milnor on Riemannian flat Lie algebras. We reduce the study of Lorentzian flat Lie algebras to those with trivial center or those with degenerate center. We show that the double extension process can be used to construct all Lorentzian flat Lie algebras with degenerate center generalizing a result of Aubert-Medina on Lorentzian flat nilpotent Lie algebras. Finally, we give the list of Lorentzian flat Lie algebras with degenerate center up to dimension 6.

Abstract:A Lorentzian flat Lie group is a Lie group $G$ with a flat left invariant metric $\mu$ with signature $(1,n-1)=(-,+,\ldots,+)$. The Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}=T_eG$ of $G$ endowed with $\langle\;,\;\rangle=\mu(e)$ is called flat Lorentzian Lie algebra. It is known that the metric of a flat Lorentzian Lie group is geodesically complete if and only if its Lie algebra is unimodular. In this paper, we characterise nonunimodular Lorentzian flat Lie algebras as double extensions (in the sense of Aubert-Medina \cite{Aub-Med}) of Riemannian flat Lie algebras. As application of this result, we give all nonunimodular Lorentzian flat Lie algebras up to dimension 4.

Abstract:In this paper we use a recently suggested conjecture about the integral representation for flat coordinates on Frobenius manifolds, connected with isolated singularities, to compute the flat coordinates and Saito primitive form on the space of deformations of Gepner chiral ring . We verify this conjecture comparing the expressions for flat coordinates obtained from the conjecture with the one found by direct computation. The considered case is of a particular interest since apart from the relevant and marginal deformations, it also has an irrelevant one.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to study the geometry of the connected unit component of the real general linear Lie group $4$ dimensional $G_0$ as a Lorentzian and flat affine manifold. As the group $G_0$ is naturally equipped with a bi-invariant Hessian metric $k^+$, relative to a bi-invariant flat affine structure $\nabla$, we examine both structures and the relationships between them. Both structures are defined using the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, the first one through the trace $k(u,v):=\mathrm{trace}(u\circ v)$ and the second by the composition $\nabla_{u^+}v^+:=(u\circ v)^+$, where $u,v\in\mathfrak{g}$. The curvatures, tidal force, and Jacobi vector fields of $(G_0, k^+)$ are determined in Section 1. Section 2 discusses the causal structure of $k^+$, while Section 3 focuses on the developed map relative to $\nabla$ in the sense of C. Ehresmann.

Abstract:We solve the equivalence problem for rank 3 completely nonholonomic vector distributions with 6-dimensional square on a smooth manifold of arbitrary dimension n under very mild genericity conditions. The main idea is to consider the projectivization of the annihilator of a given 3-dimensional distribution. It is naturally foliated by characteristic curves, which are also called the abnormal extremals of the distribution. The dynamics of vertical fibers along characteristic curves defines certain curves of flags of isotropic and coisotropic subspaces in a linear symplectic space. The problem of equivalence of distributions can be essentially reduced to the differential geometry of such curves. The class of all 3-distributions under consideration is split into a finite number of subclasses according to the Young diagram of their flags. The local geometry of distributions can be recovered from the properties of the symmetry group of so-called flat curves of flags associated with this Young diagram. In each subclass we describe the flat distribution and construct a canonical frame for any other distribution. It turns out that for n>6 in the most nontrivial case the symmetry algebra of the flat distribution can be described in terms of rational normal curves (their secants and tangential developables) in projective spaces and its dimension grows exponentially with respect to n.

Abstract:Let Σ be a compact oriented 2-manifold (possibly with boundary), and let G Σ be the linear span of free homotopy classes of closed oriented curves on Σ equipped with the Goldman Lie bracket [ ⋅ , ⋅ ] Goldman defined in terms of intersections of curves. A theorem of Goldman gives rise to a Lie homomorphism Φ even from ( G Σ , [ ⋅ , ⋅ ] Goldman ) to functions on the moduli space of flat connections M Σ ( G ) for G = U ( N ) , G L ( N ) , equipped with the Atiyah-Bott Poisson bracket. The space G Σ also carries the Turaev Lie cobracket δ Turaev defined in terms of self-intersections of curves. In this paper, we address the following natural question: which geometric structure on moduli spaces of flat connections corresponds to the Turaev cobracket? We give a constructive answer to this question in the following context: for G a Lie supergroup with an odd invariant scalar product on its Lie superalgebra, and for nonempty ∂Σ, we show that the moduli space of flat connections M Σ ( G ) carries a natural Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) structure, given by an explicit combinatorial Fock-Rosly formula. Furthermore, for the queer Lie supergroup G = Q ( N ) , we define a BV-morphism Φ odd : ∧ G Σ → Fun ( M Σ ( Q ( N ) ) ) which replaces the Goldman map, and which captures the information both on the Goldman bracket and on the Turaev cobracket. The map Φ odd is constructed using the “odd trace” function on Q ( N ) .

Abstract:A three dimensional Lorentzian hypersurface x:M13→R14 is called conformally flat if its induced metric is conformal to the flat Lorentzian metric, this property is preserved under the conformal transformation of R14. Using the projective light-cone model, for those ones whose shape operators have a pair of complex conjugate eigenvalues, we study the integrability condition by constructing a scalar conformal invariant and a canonical moving frame in this paper. It follows that these hypersurfaces can be determined by the solutions to a system of three-order partial differential equations.

Abstract:We study tensor products of two structures situated, in a sense, between normed spaces and (abstract) operator spaces. We call them Lambert and proto-Lambert spaces and pay more attention to the latter ones. The considered two tensor products lead to essentially different norms in the respective spaces. Moreover, the proto-Lambert tensor product is especially nice for spaces with the maximal proto-Lambert norm and in particular, for $L_1$-spaces. At the same time the Lambert tensor product is nice for Hilbert spaces with the minimal Lambert norm.

Abstract:Assume that $R$ is a non-right perfect ring. Then there is a proper class of classes of (right $R$-) modules closed under transfinite extensions lying between the classes $\mathcal P _0$ of projective modules, and $\mathcal F _0$ of flat modules. These classes can be defined as variants of the class $\mathcal F \mathcal M$ of absolute flat Mittag-Leffler modules: either as their restricted versions (lying between $\mathcal P _0$ and $\mathcal F \mathcal M$), or their relative versions (between $\mathcal F \mathcal M$ and $\mathcal F _0$). In this survey, we will deal with applications of these classes in relative homological algebra and algebraic geometry. The classes $\mathcal P _0$ and $\mathcal F _0$ are known to provide for approximations, and minimal approximations, respectively. We will show that the classes of restricted flat relative Mittag-Leffler modules, and flat relative Mittag-Leffler modules, have rather different approximation properties: the former classes always provide for approximations, but the latter do not, except for the boundary case of $\mathcal F _0$. The notion of an (infinite dimensional) vector bundle is known to be Zariski local for all schemes, the key point of the proof being that projectivity ascends and descends along flat and faithfully flat ring homomorphisms, respectively. We will see that the same holds for the properties of being a $\kappa$-restricted flat Mittag-Leffler module for each cardinal $\kappa \geq \aleph_0$, and also a flat $\mathcal Q$-Mittag-Leffler module whenever $\mathcal Q$ is a definable class of finite type. Thus, as in the model case of vector bundles, Zariski locality holds for flat quasi-coherent sheaves induced by each of these classes of modules. Moreover, we will see that the notion of a locally $n$-tilting quasi-coherent sheaf is Zariski local for all $n \geq 0$.

Abstract:In the conformal (Möbius) geometry of submanifolds, using algebraic invariants of the shape operator to construct conformal invariants is a frequently used method. But it does not apply to [Formula: see text]-dim Lorentzian hypersurfaces of the last type, the minimal polynomial of whose shape operator has a triple root. In this paper, using the obstruction of some distribution to be integrable, a new method to construct conformal invariants is introduced. Using this method, a complete conformal invariant system is constructed for generic conformally flat Lorentzian hypersurfaces of the last type. We find that such kind of hypersurfaces allows an infinite parameter family of non-equivalent deformations, which implies they are more abundant than the other three types. For non-generic conformally flat Lorentzian hypersurfaces of the last type, the isometric geometry is studied and a fundamental theorem is obtained in this paper.
