Abstract:In this paper we will be classifying some regular upper-triangular subalgebras of $\mathfrak{sl}(n, \mathbb C)$ up to conjugacy by matrices in $SL(n, \mathbb C)$. We do so for dimension 2, codimension 1, and codimension 2 subalgebras. We prove some general results for codimension $k$. The approach we use reduces an abstract classification problem to a combinatorial one, which we solve through a mixture of inductive and computational approaches.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the classification problem of specific regular upper - triangular sub - algebras under the conjugation of \( \text{SL}(n,\mathbb{C}) \). Specifically, the author focuses on sub - algebras with dimension 2, codimension 1 and 2, and proves some general results for the case of codimension \( k \). By transforming the abstract classification problem into a combinatorial problem, the author solves this problem using the inductive method and computational methods.
### Main contributions of the paper
1. **Classification of specific regular upper - triangular sub - algebras**: The author classifies specific regular upper - triangular sub - algebras in \( \text{sl}(n,\mathbb{C}) \) that are conjugate under \( \text{SL}(n,\mathbb{C}) \).
2. **Application of combinatorial methods**: By transforming the abstract classification problem into a combinatorial problem, the author provides a new solution method.
3. **Inductive and computational methods**: The author uses the inductive method and computational methods to solve the combinatorial problem, thereby completing the classification.
### Main definitions and symbols
- **Standard commutation matrix**: Denoted as \( \tau_{ij} \).
- **Standard basis**: \( E_{ij} \) and \( H_i = E_{i,i} - E_{i + 1,i + 1} \) are the standard basis of \( \text{sl}(n,\mathbb{C}) \).
- **Upper - triangular nilpotent element basis**: Denoted as \( E=\{E_{ij}:1\leq i,j\leq n - 1,i < j\} \).
- **Diagonal element basis**: Denoted as \( H = \{H_i:1\leq i\leq n - 1\} \).
- **Star - shaped matrix**: A visual way used to represent the nilpotent basis in the sub - algebra, where a star in the \( ij \) position of an \( n\times n \) matrix indicates that \( E_{ij} \) is in the basis, otherwise it is 0.
### Main theorems and lemmas
- **Lie bracket**:
\[
[E_{ij},E_{kl}]=E_{ij}E_{kl}-E_{kl}E_{ij}=\delta_{jk}E_{il}-\delta_{li}E_{kj}
\]
\[
[E_{ij},H_k]=\delta_{jk}E_{ik}-\delta_{j,k + 1}E_{i,k + 1}-\delta_{ki}E_{kj}+\delta_{k + 1,i}E_{k + 1,j}
\]
\[
[H_i,H_k]=0
\]
- **Invariance of nilpotent elements**: Nilpotent elements remain nilpotent elements under conjugation.
- **Invariance of derived sequences**: Derived sequences remain invariant under conjugation.
- **Invariance of column rank and row rank**: Column rank and row rank remain invariant under conjugation.
### Classification results
- **Sub - algebras with dimension \( \frac{n(n + 1)}{2}-1 \)**: There are \( 2n-2 \) regular sub - algebras, which are divided into two types: one is to remove an \( E_{i,i + 1} \), and the other is to remove an \( H_i \).
- **Sub - algebras with codimension 2**: There are \( 2n^2-3n - 1 \) regular sub - algebras, which are divided into three types: removing two \( H_i \), removing an \( E_{i,i + 1} \) and an \( H_i \), and removing two \( E_{i,i + 1} \).
### Conclusion
Through detailed mathematical derivations and combinatorial methods, the paper successfully classifies specific regular upper - triangular sub - algebras in \( \text{sl}(n,\mathbb{C}) \) and proves the conjugation relationships of these sub - algebras under \( \text{SL}(n,\mathbb{C}) \). These results provide an important theoretical basis for understanding and studying these sub - algebras.
