Abstract:In this paper we will be classifying some regular upper-triangular subalgebras of $\mathfrak{sl}(n, \mathbb C)$ up to conjugacy by matrices in $SL(n, \mathbb C)$. We do so for dimension 2, codimension 1, and codimension 2 subalgebras. We prove some general results for codimension $k$. The approach we use reduces an abstract classification problem to a combinatorial one, which we solve through a mixture of inductive and computational approaches.

Abstract:In this paper, we not only give a complete classification of finite dimensional indecomposable modules of the Lie superalgebra sl(2/1) with diagonal Cartan subalgebra, but also completely classify those modules with nondiagonal Cartan subalgebra. Thus, by taking all possible direct sums of such modules, we have effectively classified all the finite dimensional sl(2/1)-modules.

Abstract:In this paper we first prove that the maximal ideal of the universal affine vertex operator algebra $V^k(sl_n)$ for $k=-n+\frac{n-1}{q}$ is generated by two singular vectors of conformal weight $3q$ if $n=3$, and by one singular vector of conformal weight $2q$ if $n\geq 4$. We next determine the associated varieties of the simple vertex operator algebras $L_k(sl_3)$ for all the non-admissible levels $k=-3+\frac{2}{2m+1}$, $m\geq 0$. The varieties of the associated simple affine $W$-algebras $W_k(sl_3,f)$, for nilpotent elements $f$ of $sl_3$, are also determined.

Abstract:We consider the possible role that chiral orbifold conformal field theories may play in describing the edge state theories of quantum Hall systems. This is a generalization of work that already exists in the literature, where it has been shown that 1+1 chiral bosons living on a n-dimensional torus, and which couple to a U_1 gauge field, give rise to anomalous electric currents, the anomaly being related to the Hall conductivity. The well known $O(n,n;Z)$ duality group associated with such toroidal conformal field theories transforms the edge states and Hall conductivities in a way which makes interesting connections between different theories, e.g. between systems exhibiting the integer and fractional quantum Hall effect. In this paper we try to explore the extension of these constructions to the case where such bosons live on a n-dimensional orbifold. We give a general formalism for discussing the relevant quantities like the Hall conductance and their transformation under the duality groups present in orbifold compactifications. We illustrate these ideas by presenting a detailed analysis of a toy model based on the two-dimensional Z_3 orbifold. In this model we obtain new classes of filling fractions, which generally the correspond to fermionic edge states carrying fractional electric charge. We also consider the relation between orbifold edge theories and Luttinger liquids (LL's), which in the past have provided important insights into the physics of quantum Hall systems.

Abstract:For the cyclic group $\mathbb{Z}_3$ and positive integer $k$, we study the representations of the orbifold vertex operator algebra $L_{\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_2}}(k,0)^{\mathbb{Z}_3}$. All the irreducible modules for $L_{\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_2}}(k,0)^{\mathbb{Z}_3}$ are classified and constructed explicitly. Quantum dimensions and fusion rules for the orbifold vertex operator algebra $L_{\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_2}}(k,0)^{\mathbb{Z}_3}$ are completely determined.

Abstract: In this paper, we explore natural connections among the representations of the extended affine Lie algebra $\widehat{sl_N}(\mathbb{C}_q)$ with $\mathbb{C}_q=\mathbb{C}_q[t_0^{\pm1},t_1^{\pm1}]$ an irrational quantum 2-torus, the simple affine vertex algebra $L_{\widehat{sl_{\infty}}}(\ell,0)$ with $\ell$ a positive integer, and Levi subgroups $G$ of $GL_\ell(\mathbb{C})$. First, we give a canonical isomorphism between the category of integrable restricted $\widehat{sl_N}(\mathbb{C}_q)$-modules of level $\ell$ and that of equivariant quasi $L_{\widehat{sl_{\infty}}}(\ell,0)$-modules. Second, we classify irreducible $\mathbb{N}$-graded equivariant quasi $L_{\widehat{sl_{\infty}}}(\ell,0)$-modules. Third, we establish a duality between irreducible $\mathbb{N}$-graded equivariant quasi $L_{\widehat{sl_{\infty}}}(\ell,0)$-modules and irreducible regular $G$-modules on certain fermionic Fock spaces. Fourth, we obtain an explicit realization of every irreducible $\mathbb{N}$-graded equivariant quasi $L_{\widehat{sl_{\infty}}}(\ell,0)$-module. Fifth, we completely determine the following branchings: 1 The branching from $L_{\widehat{sl_{\infty}}}(\ell,0)\otimes L_{\widehat{sl_{\infty}}}(\ell',0)$ to $L_{\widehat{sl_{\infty}}}(\ell+\ell',0)$ for quasi modules. 2 The branching from $\widehat{sl_N}(\mathbb{C}_q)$ to its Levi subalgebras. 3 The branching from $\widehat{sl_N}(\mathbb{C}_q)$ to its subalgebras $\widehat{sl_N}(\mathbb{C}_q[t_0^{\pm M_0},t_1^{\pm M_1}])$.
The non-semisimple Kazhdan-Lusztig category for affine $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at admissible levels

Abstract:We show that Kazhdan and Lusztig's category $KL^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ of modules for the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2$ at an admissible level $k$, equivalently the category of finite-length grading-restricted generalized modules for the universal affine vertex operator algebra $V^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$, is a braided tensor category. Although this tensor category is not rigid, we show that the subcategory of all rigid objects in $KL^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ is equal to the subcategory of all projective objects, and that every simple module in $KL^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ has a projective cover. Moreover, we show that the full subcategory of projective objects in $KL^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ is monoidal equivalent to the category of tilting modules for quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at the root of unity $\zeta=e^{\pi i/(k+2)}$. Using this, we establish a universal property of the tensor category $KL^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$, and as an application, we prove a weak Kazhdan-Lusztig correspondence, that is, we obtain an exact essentially surjective (but not full or faithful) tensor functor from $KL^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ to the category of finite dimensional weight modules for the quantum group associated to $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at the root of unity $\zeta $. We also use the universal property to classify the categories $KL^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ up to (braided) tensor equivalence and to obtain a tensor-categorical version of quantum Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction, that is, we construct a braided tensor functor from $KL^k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ to a category of modules for the Virasoro algebra at central charge $1-\frac{6(k+1)^2}{k+2}$.

In this paper, we first prove that for any complex number ℓ, the category of restricted slNˆ(Cq)-modules of level ℓ is canonically isomorphic to the category of twisted modules for the vertex algebra VCgˆ(ℓ,0) arising from a conformal Lie algebra Cg, where Cgˆ is isomorphic to a toroidal Lie algebra. Then we prove that for any nonnegative integer ℓ, the integrable restricted slNˆ(Cq)-modules of level ℓ are exactly the twisted modules for the quotient vertex algebra LCgˆ(ℓ,0) of VCgˆ(ℓ,0). Abstract:Revisiting the results by Winternitz [Symmetry in physics, CRM Proc. Lecture Notes 34, American Mathematical Society, Providence, RI, 2004, pp. 215-227], we thoroughly refine his classification of Lie subalgebras of the real order-three special linear Lie algebra and thus present the correct version of this classification for the first time. A similar classification over the complex numbers is also carried out. We follow the general approach by Patera, Winternitz and Zassenhaus but in addition enhance it and rigorously prove its theoretical basis for the required specific cases of classifying subalgebras of real or complex finite-dimensional Lie algebras. As a byproduct, we first construct complete lists of inequivalent subalgebras of the rank-two affine Lie algebra over both the real and complex fields.

Abstract:We use a representation of a graded twisted tensor product of $K[x]$ with $K[y]$ in $L(K^{\Bbb{N}_0})$ in order to obtain a nearly complete classification of these graded twisted tensor products via infinite matrices. There is one particular example and three main cases: quadratic algebras classified by Conner and Goetz, a family called $A(n,d,a)$ with the $n+1$-extension property for $n\ge 2$, and a third case, not fully classified, which contains a family $B(a,L)$ parameterized by quasi-balanced sequences.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a family of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras XˆS, where X stands for the type: A,B,C,D, and S is an abelian group, which generalize the A,B,C,D series of trigonometric Lie algebras. Among the main results, we identify XˆS with what are called the covariant algebras of the affine Lie algebra LSˆ with respect to some automorphism groups, where LS is an explicitly defined associative algebra viewed as a Lie algebra. We then show that restricted XˆS-modules of level ℓ naturally correspond to equivariant quasi modules for affine vertex algebras related to LS. Furthermore, for any finite cyclic group S, we completely determine the structures of these four families of Lie algebras, showing that they are essentially affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras of certain types.

Abstract:We classify all the lattices realized as the intersection form of a positive definite four manifold with boundary $S_n^3(K)$ for a knot $K$ in the three sphere and a positive integer $n$ greater than $4g_4(K)+3$. We then use this result to define a concordance invariant and generalize a theorem of Rasmussen on lens space surgeries.
