Abstract:The unveiling of 2D van der Waals magnetism in 2017 ignited a surge of interest in low-dimensional magnetism. With dimensions reduced, research has delved into facile electric control of 2D magnetism, high-quality heterostructure design, and new device functionality. These atomically thin magnetic materials have spawned a burgeoning field known as 2D spintronics, holding immense promise for future quantum technologies. In this review, we comprehensively survey the current advancements in 2D magnet-based quantum devices, accentuating their role in manifesting exotic properties and enabling novel functionalities. Topological states, spin torques, voltage control of magnetic anisotropy, strain engineering, twistronics and designer interface will be discussed. Furthermore, we offer an outlook to guide their development in future CMOS and quantum hardware paradigms.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### What problems does this paper attempt to solve? This paper aims to explore and summarize the integration and application of two - dimensional (2D) magnetic materials in quantum devices, especially how these materials promote the development of the low - dimensional magnetism and spintronics fields. Specifically, the paper mainly solves the following key problems: 1. **Research on low - dimensional magnetism**: - The paper explores the changes in magnetic behavior during the transition from bulk materials to 2D materials. Due to their unique quantum confinement effects, mechanical flexibility, and enhanced electrical, thermal, and optical sensitivities, 2D magnetic materials exhibit many novel physical phenomena. 2. **Electric - field - controlled magnetism and heterostructure design**: - The researchers found that by adjusting the number of layers of 2D magnetic materials and interface engineering, fine - tuning of magnetic properties can be achieved. This makes it possible to develop new functional devices, such as voltage - controlled magnetic anisotropy, strain engineering, etc. 3. **Realization of new device functions**: - The application potential of 2D magnetic materials is huge, especially in non - volatile memories, magnetic sensors, and quantum technologies. For example, 2D magnetic materials can be used to manufacture high - performance spin - orbit torque (SOT) and spin - transfer torque (STT) devices, thereby increasing the speed and efficiency of data storage and processing. 4. **Topological states and exotic magnetic orders**: - The paper also discusses phenomena such as topological states, spin torque, and twistronics that occur in 2D magnetic materials. These phenomena not only enrich the research content of basic physics but also provide new ideas for the future development of CMOS and quantum hardware. 5. **Future technology outlook**: - Finally, the paper looks forward to future research directions and technological applications, emphasizing the potential role of 2D magnetic materials in next - generation computing and communication technologies. Through in - depth understanding of these materials, the way can be paved for future high - performance, low - power - consumption electronic devices. In general, this paper is committed to revealing the unique properties of 2D magnetic materials and exploring their broad application prospects in quantum technology and spintronics.
