Abstract:The discovery of two-dimensional (2D) magnetism within atomically thin structures derived from layered crystals has opened up a new realm for exploring magnetic heterostructures. This emerging field provides a foundational platform for investigating unique physical properties and exquisite phenomena at the nanometer and molecular/atomic scales. By engineering 2D interfaces using physical methods and selecting interlayer interactions, we unlock the potential for extraordinary exchange dynamics. This potential extends to high-performance and high-density magnetic memory applications, as well as future advancements in neuromorphic and quantum computing. This review delves into recent advances in 2D magnets, elucidates the mechanisms behind 2D interfaces, and highlights the development of 2D devices for spintronics and quantum information. Particular focus is placed on 2D magnetic heterostructures with topological properties, promising for a resilient and low-error information system. Finally, we discuss the trends of 2D heterostructures for future electronics, considering the challenges and opportunities from physics, material synthesis, and technological prospective.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to explore the application prospects of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures in the fields of spintronics and quantum computing. Specifically, the paper mainly focuses on the following aspects: 1. **Basic properties of two - dimensional magnetic materials**: The paper first reviews the types of two - dimensional magnetic materials and their basic physical properties, including ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, and multiferroic materials. Due to their unique layered structures and low - dimensional effects, these materials exhibit different properties in terms of magnetic moment arrangement, Curie temperature, etc., compared with three - dimensional materials. 2. **Design and function expansion of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures**: By constructing different types of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures, researchers can modulate the electronic band structure and magnetic properties of materials, thereby optimizing the material performance. For example, by selecting appropriate interface interactions, the exchange dynamics of materials can be enhanced or changed, which is particularly important for high - density magnetic storage applications. 3. **Applications of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures in spintronics**: The paper discusses in detail spintronics devices based on two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures, such as magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ), spin - field - effect transistors (Spin - FET), and spin - orbit torque (SOT) devices. These devices not only increase the density and energy efficiency of data storage but also provide new ways to develop non - volatile memories. 4. **Potential of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures in neuromorphic computing**: The paper also explores the applications of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures in neuromorphic computing, especially the possibility of using skyrmions as information carriers. Skyrmions are spin structures with topological protection properties, which can achieve high - density, low - energy - consumption information storage and processing, and are of great significance for constructing more compact, efficient, and fault - tolerant neuromorphic computing systems. 5. **Applications of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures in quantum computing**: Finally, the paper looks forward to the application prospects of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures in the field of quantum computing, especially the research on topological superconductivity and skyrmion qubits. These studies are expected to promote the development of quantum computing technology and realize higher - performance quantum information processing systems. In summary, the main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to explore the application potential of two - dimensional magnetic heterostructures in cutting - edge fields such as spintronics, neuromorphic computing, and quantum computing through design and construction, in order to develop new electronic devices with better performance and more functions.
