Abstract:Using the connection of little cubes and locally constant factorization algebras, we construct an explicit diagram whose colimit is Lurie's $\infty$-operad $\mathbb E_{B}^{\otimes}$. This will clarify the universal property of $\mathbb E_{B}^{\otimes}$.

Abstract:We give a new proof of Dunn's additivity for the little $n$-cubes operads $C_n$, which has the advantage of being considerably shorter than the ones in the literature. At the end we remark on how our proof can be adjusted to work for the tensor product of a finite number of factors.

Abstract:A modern insight due to Quillen, which is further developed by Lurie, asserts that many cohomology theories of interest are particular cases of a single construction, which allows one to define cohomology groups in an abstract setting using only intrinsic properties of the category (or $\infty$-category) at hand. This universal cohomology theory is known as Quillen cohomology. In any setting, Quillen cohomology of a given object is classified by its cotangent complex. The main purpose of this paper is to study Quillen cohomology of operads enriched over a general base category. Our main result provides an explicit formula for computing Quillen cohomology of enriched operads, based on a procedure of taking certain infinitesimal models of their cotangent complexes. Furthermore, we propose a natural construction of the twisted arrow $\infty$-categories of simplicial operads. We then assert that the cotangent complex of a simplicial operad can be represented as a spectrum valued functor on its twisted arrow $\infty$-category. When working in stable base categories such as chain complexes and spectra, Francis and Lurie proved the existence of a fiber sequence relating the cotangent complex and Hochschild complex of an $E_n$-algebra, from which a conjecture of Kontsevich is verified. We prove the existence of an analogue for the operad $E_n$ itself, in the framework of topological setting.

Abstract:Infinitesimal deformations are governed by partition Lie algebras. In characteristic $0$, these higher categorical structures are modelled by differential graded Lie algebras, but in characteristic $p$, they are more subtle. We give explicit models for partition Lie algebras over general coherent rings, both in the setting of spectral and derived algebraic geometry. For the spectral case, we refine operadic Koszul duality to a functor from operads to divided power operads, by taking refined linear duals of $\Sigma_n$-representations. The derived case requires a further refinement of Koszul duality to a more genuine setting.

Abstract:Involutive category theory provides a flexible framework to describe involutive structures on algebraic objects, such as anti-linear involutions on complex vector spaces. Motivated by the prominent role of involutions in quantum (field) theory, we develop the involutive analogs of colored operads and their algebras, named colored $\ast$-operads and $\ast$-algebras. Central to the definition of colored $\ast$-operads is the involutive monoidal category of symmetric sequences, which we obtain from a general product-exponential $2$-adjunction whose right adjoint forms involutive functor categories. For $\ast$-algebras over $\ast$-operads we obtain involutive analogs of the usual change of color and operad adjunctions. As an application, we turn the colored operads for algebraic quantum field theory into colored $\ast$-operads. The simplest instance is the associative $\ast$-operad, whose $\ast$-algebras are unital and associative $\ast$-algebras.

Abstract:From a map of operads $\eta : O\rightarrow O'$, we introduce a cofibrant replacement of the operad $O$ in the category of bimodules over itself such that the corresponding model of the derived mapping space of bimodules $Bimod_{O}^{h}(O;O')$ is an algebra over the one dimensional little cubes operad $\mathcal{C}_{1}$. In the present work, we also build an explicit weak equivalence of $\mathcal{C}_{1}$-algebras from the loop space $\Omega Operad^{h}(O;O')$ to $Bimod_{O}^{h}(O;O')$.

Abstract:We introduce a new type of operad-like structure called a P-operad, which depends on the choice of some collection of posets P, and which is governed by chains in posets of P. We introduce several examples of such structures which are related to classical poset theoretic notions such as poset homology, Cohen--Macaulayness and lexicographic shellability. We then show that P-operads form a satisfactory framework to categorify Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials of geometric lattices and their kernel. In particular, this leads to a new proof of the positivity of the coefficients of Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials of geometric lattices.

Operadic Dold-Kan correspondence and mapping spaces between enriched operads

Abstract:According to the Dold-Kan correspondence, the normalization functor determines a categorical equivalence between simplicial abelian groups and non-negatively graded chain complexes. Nevertheless, the same statement is no longer true when extending to the context of algebras over an operad. In spite of this, the existence of the Dold-Kan correspondence for operadic algebras can still be realized from a homotopy-theoretic perspective. This was indeed observed for $A_\infty$-algebras by Schwede-Shipley, and for $E_\infty$-algebras by Mandell, and more generally, for algebras over any $\Sigma$-cofibrant operad due to White-Yau. In the first part of the paper, we shall prove further that the normalization functor induces an equivalence between the $\infty$-categories of operads with non-fixed sets of colors, in the Dwyer-Kan homotopy theory framework. Subsequently, we delve into investigating the mapping spaces between enriched operads by relating them to mapping spaces between operadic bimodules via nice fiber sequences. The validity of the main statements is examined first for simplicial operads, and then for connective dg operads due to the operadic Dold-Kan correspondence.

Equivariant linear isometries operads over Abelian groups

Abstract:$N_\infty$-operads are an equivariant generalization of $E_\infty$-operads introduced by Blumberg and Hill to study structural problems in equivariant stable homotopy theory. In the original paper introducing these objects, Blumberg and Hill raised the question of classifying $N_\infty$-operads that are weakly equivalent to a particularly nice kind of $N_\infty$-operad called a linear isometries operad. For some groups there is a known classification of linear isometries operads up to weak equivalence in terms of certain combinatorially defined objects called saturated transfer systems, but this classification is known to be invalid in general. Various authors have made incremental progress on understanding the domain of validity for this classification, but even among cyclic groups the validity is unknown in general. We determine essentially all the finite Abelian groups for which the classification is valid using techniques from algebra and extremal combinatorics.

Abstract:A diagram of algebras is a functor valued in a category of associative algebras. I construct an operad acting on the Hochschild bicomplex of a diagram of algebras. Using this operad, I give a direct proof that the Hochschild cohomology of a diagram of algebras is a Gerstenhaber algebra. I also show that the total complex is an $L_\infty$-algebra. The same results are true for the reduced and asimplicial subcomplexes and asimplicial cohomology. This structure governs deformations of diagrams of algebras through the Maurer-Cartan equation.

Abstract:We introduce a construction that associates, to each finite dimensional k-vector space V, a family of projective k-varieties that comes equipped with the structure of a operad in the category of k-schemes. When dim V = 1, this operad contains, as a suboperad, the family of moduli spaces of stably marked rational curves. For general V, our operad contains the family of Chen-Gibney-Krashen moduli spaces of stably marked trees of projective spaces as a suboperad. We realize our operad as part of a larger theory that describes how to construct operads from suitable functors. Given a category C that satisfies conditions allowing us to consider the operation of "substituting a value into an argument" within C, and given any functor F on C satisfying a variant of right-exactness, we construct a version of a set-valued operad whose inputs are given by objects in C. When C happens to be the category of nonempty finite sets, we obtain operads in the classic sense. Finally, we show that in many cases it is possible to realize these operads as disjoint unions of quiver Grassmannians.

Abstract:We consider the maximal operator with respect to uncentered cubes on Euclidean space with arbitrary dimension. We prove that for any function with bounded variation, the variation of its maximal function is bounded by the variation of the function times a dimensional constant. We also prove the corresponding result for maximal operators with respect to collections of more general sets than cubes. The sets are required to satisfy a certain inner cone star condition and in addition the collection must enjoy a tiling property which for example the collection of all cubes does enjoy and the collection of all Euclidean balls does not.

Abstract:We give a description of unital operads in a symmetric monoidal category as monoids in a monoidal category of unital $\Lambda$-sequences. This is a new variant of Kelly's old description of operads as monoids in the monoidal category of symmetric sequences. The monads associated to unital operads are the ones of interest in iterated loop space theory and factorization homology, among many other applications. Our new description of unital operads allows an illuminating comparison between the two-sided monadic bar constructions used in such applications and "classical" monoidal two-sided bar constructions. It also allows a more conceptual understanding of the scanning map central to non-abelian Poincaré duality in factorization homology.

Abstract:Modular operads relevant to string theory can be equipped with an additional structure, coming from the connected sum of surfaces. Motivated by this example, we introduce a notion of connected sum for general modular operads. We show that a connected sum induces a commutative product on the space of functions associated to the modular operad. Moreover, we combine this product with Barannikov's non-commutative Batalin-Vilkovisky structure present on this space of functions, obtaining a Beilinson-Drinfeld algebra. Finally, we study the quantum master equation using the exponential defined using this commutative product.

Abstract:We elaborate on the notion of a filtration of an operad defined in terms of a lattice-valued operad serving as an indexing object. That covers ordinary integer-indexed filtrations of associative algebras and operads as a special case, yet the notion appears to be natural enough to encompass examples of other kind as well. The characteristic property of lattice operads is that of a certain distributivity of partial compositions with respect to meets and joins. We observe that some well-known families of lattices of combinatorial origin, such as Tamari lattices, assemble to operads subject to this particular property. Other examples include an operad of integer paritions supported on Young's lattice, operads of integer compositions of types $A, B$ and $D$, which we relate to operads of regular polytopes. We discuss the partial compatibility of the weak order on the symmetric group with the structure of the permutations operad.
