Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the Dunn-Brinkmeier~additivity theorem, which establishes a weak equivalence $\mathcal{C}_n \otimes \mathcal{C}_m \simeq \mathcal{C}_{n+m}$ for the little cubes operad $\mathcal{C}_n$. We introduce equivariant framed little disk operads, a new class of operads that simultaneously generalize the framed little disk operads and the little $V$-disk operads associated with a $G$-representation $V$. We prove that these operads satisfy an analogous additivity property, extending the classical theorem to settings involving group actions and framings.

Abstract:Let G be any additive abelian group with cyclic torsion subgroup, and let A, B and C be finite subsets of G with cardinality n > 0. We show that there is a numbering {a(i)}(n)(i=1)of the elements of A, a numbering {b(i)}(n)(i=1) of the elements of B and a numbering {c(i)}(n)(i=1) of the elements of C, such that all the sums a(i) + b(i) + c(i) (1 <= i <= n) are (pairwise) distinct. Consequently, each subcube of the Latin cube formed by the Cayley addition table of Z/NZ contains a Latin transversal. This additive theorem is an essential result which can be further extended via restricted sumsets in a field.

Abstract:We present a new proof of the compactness of bilinear paraproducts with CMO symbols. By drawing an analogy to compact linear operators, we first explore further properties of compact bilinear operators on Banach spaces and present examples. We then prove compactness of bilinear paraproducts with CMO symbols by combining one of the properties of compact bilinear operators thus obtained with vanishing Carleson measure estimates and interpolation of bilinear compactness.

Abstract:We show that the sets of $d$-dimensional Latin hypercubes over a non-empty set $X$, with $d$ running over the positive integers, determine an operad which is isomorphic to a sub-operad of the endomorphism operad of $X$. We generalise this to categories with finite products, and then further to internal versions for certain Cartesian closed monoidal categories with pullbacks.

Abstract:We define an action of the operad of projective spineless cacti on each stage of the Taylor tower for the space of framed 1-dimensional long knots in any Euclidean space. By mapping a subspace of the overlapping intervals operad to the subspace of normalized cacti, we prove a space-level compatibility of our action with Budney's little 2-cubes action on the space of framed long knots itself. Our result improves upon previous joint work of the first author related to the conjecture that the Taylor tower for classical long knots is a universal Vassiliev invariant over the integers. As a corollary, we reprove the nontriviality of a certain Browder bracket class first detected by Sakai.

Simplicial Structure on Connected Multiplicative Operads

Abstract:In these notes, we define a new simplicial structure on a connected multiplicative operad and call it connected multiplicative simplicial operad (for short; simplicial operad). Next we introduce on this simplicial operad a brace algebra structure analogous to that of Gerstenhaber-Voronov that we call right brace algebra structure. This permits us to obtain on the operad with the above mentioned properties a bicomplex structure one of whose two differential operators is a coboundary and the other one is a boundary. Moreover we define on one hand on the above simplicial operad together with its right brace algebra structure, two distinct products up to a sign respectively called dot-product and odot-product. Then we show that the coboundary and the boundary together with the odot-product provide to this simplicial operad two distinct differential graded algebra structures. On the other hand we obtain through the Alexander-Withney map, a differential graded coalgebra structure on a simplicial operad. We end by illustrating our constructions with some examples

A Note on the Subcubes of the $n$-Cube

Abstract:In the year 1990, Béla Bollobás, Imre Leader and Andrew Radcliffe considered the following combinatorial problem: given three parameters k, n and q, find a set of k vertices in the binary n-cube which contains a maximal number of q-dimensional subcubes. It was shown that an optimal solution is given by the k vertices which coincide with the binary representations of the number 0 , 1 , ... , k-1. Two proofs were presented. The proof given by Bollobas and Leader is particularly elegant and short. Here we show that also the other proof, the one given by Bollobas and Radcliffe, becomes quite simple and short when it is combined with a lemma from Graham whose publication dates back to 1970. As a second application of Graham's lemma, we solve a recursive equation (related to the optimization problem that we discussed before) that might be considered interesting in its own right.

Abstract:For a positive integer $n \geq 2$, define $t_n$ to be the smallest number such that the additive energy $E(A)$ of any subset $A \subset \{0,1,\cdots,n-1\}^d$ and any $d$ is at most $|A|^{t_n}$. Trivially we have $t_n \leq 3$ and $$ t_n \geq 3 - \log_n\frac{3n^3}{2n^3+n} $$ by considering $A = \{0,1,\cdots,n-1\}^d$. In this note, we investigate the behavior of $t_n$ for large $n$ and obtain the following non-trivial bounds: $$ 3 - (1+o_{n\rightarrow\infty}(1)) \log_n \frac{3\sqrt{3}}{4} \leq t_n \leq 3 - \log_n(1+c), $$ where $c>0$ is an absolute constant.

Abstract:It is shown how double categories provide a direct abstract approach to coloured operads; namely, product-preserving normal lax functors from (Pb C)^op (the opposite of the double category of pullback squares in C) to Cat (the double category of functors and profunctors) can be seen as generalized operads, the standard ones arising when C = Set_f. In this context, generalized symmetric monoidal categories are considered, in particular those arising from indexed categories with sums or products.

Abstract:Various compatibility conditions among replicated copies of operations in a given algebraic structure have appeared in broad contexts in recent years. Taking a uniform approach, this paper presents an operadic study of compatibility conditions for nonsymmetric operads with unary and binary operations, and homogeneous quadratic and cubic relations. This generalizes the previous studies for binary quadratic operads. We consider three compatibility conditions, namely the linear compatibility, matching compatibility and total compatibility, with increasingly stronger restraints among the replicated copies. The linear compatibility is in Koszul duality to the total compatibility, while the matching compatibility is self dual. Further, each compatibility condition can be expressed in terms of either one or both of the two Manin square products. Finally it is shown that the operads defined by these compatibility conditions from the associative algebra and differential algebra are Koszul utilizing rewriting systems.

Abstract:We use the circle method to prove that a density 1 of elements in $\mathbb{F}_q[t]$ are representable as a sum of three cubes of essentially minimal degree from $\mathbb{F}_q[t]$, assuming the Ratios Conjecture and that the characteristic is bigger than 3. Roughly speaking, to do so, we upgrade an order of magnitude result to a full asymptotic formula that was conjectured by Hooley in the number field setting.

Relative Cubulation of Small Cancellation Free Products

Abstract:We expand the class of groups with relatively geometric actions on CAT(0) cube complexes by proving that it is closed under $C'(\frac16)$--small cancellation free products. We build upon a result of Martin and Steenbock who prove an analogous result in the more specialized setting of groups acting properly and cocompactly on CAT(0) cube complexes. Our methods make use of the same blown-up complex of groups to construct a candidate collection of walls. However, rather than arguing geometrically, we show relative cubulation by appealing to a boundary separation criterion and proving that wall stabilizers form a sufficiently rich family of full relatively quasiconvex codimension-one subgroups. The additional flexibility of relatively geometric actions has surprising new applications. In particular, we prove that $C'(\frac16)$--small cancellation free products of residually finite groups are residually finite.
