Abstract:We consider local weak solutions of widely degenerate or singular elliptic PDEs of the type \begin{equation*} -\,\mathrm{div}\left((\vert Du\vert-\lambda)_{+}^{p-1}\frac{Du}{\vert Du\vert}\right)=f \,\,\,\,\,\,\, \text{in}\,\,\Omega, \end{equation*} where $\Omega$ is an open subset of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ for $n\geq2$, $\lambda$ is a positive constant and $(\,\cdot\,)_{+}$ stands for the positive part. We establish some higher differentiability results, under essentially sharp conditions on the datum $f$. For $\lambda=0$, our results give back those contained in [12, 25].

Abstract:We prove $\textit{a priori}$ and $\textit{a posteriori}$ Hölder bounds and Schauder $C^{1,\alpha}$ estimates for continuous solutions to singular/degenerate equations with variable coefficients of type $$ \mathrm{div}\left(|u|^a A\nabla w\right)=0\qquad\mathrm{in \ }\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n, $$ where the weight $u$ solves an elliptic equation of type $\mathrm{div}\left(A\nabla u\right)=0$ with a Lipschitz-continuous and uniformly elliptic matrix $A$ and has a nontrivial, possibly singular, nodal set. Such estimates are uniform with respect to $u$ in a class of normalized solutions having bounded Almgren's frequency. More precisely, we provide $\textit{a priori}$ Hölder bounds in any space dimension, and Schauder estimates when $n=2$. When $a=2$, the results apply to the ratios of two solutions to the same PDE sharing their zero sets. Then, one can infer higher order boundary Harnack principles on nodal domains by applying the Schauder estimates for solutions to the auxiliary degenerate equation. The results are based upon a fine blow-up argument, Liouville theorems and quasiconformal maps.

A note for double Hölder regularity of the hydrodynamic pressure for weak solutions of Euler equations

Abstract:We give an elementary proof for the double Hölder regularity of the hydrodynamic pressure for weak solutions of the Euler Equations in a bounded $C^2$-domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^d$; $d\geq 3$. That is, for velocity $u \in C^{0,\gamma}(\Omega;\mathbb{R}^d)$ with some $0<\gamma<1/2$, we show that the pressure $p \in C^{0,2\gamma}(\Omega)$. This is motivated by the studies of turbulence and anolalous dissipation in mathematical hydrodynamics and, recently, has been established in [L. De Rosa, M. Latocca, and G. Stefani, Int. Math. Res. Not. 2024.3 (2024), 2511-2560] over $C^{2,\alpha}$-domains by means of pseudodifferential calculus. Our approach involves only standard elliptic PDE techniques, and relies crucially on the modified pressure introduced in [C. W. Bardos, D. W. Boutros, and E. S. Titi, Hölder regularity of the pressure for weak solutions of the 3D Euler equations in bounded domains, arXiv: <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2304.01952" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2304.01952">2304.01952</a>] and the potential estimates in [L. Silvestre, unpublished notes]. The key novel ingredient of our proof is the introduction of two cutoff functions whose localisation parameters are carefully chosen as a power of the distance to $\partial\Omega$.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to establish regularity for weak solutions to the nondiagonal quasilinear degenerate elliptic systems related to Hörmander's vector fields, where the coefficients are bounded with vanishing mean oscillation. We first prove $L^p$($p \ge 2$) estimates for gradients of weak solutions by using a priori estimates and a known reverse Hölder inequality, and consider regularity to the corresponding nondiagonal homogeneous degenerate elliptic systems. Then we get higher Morrey and Campanato estimates for gradients of weak solutions to original systems and Hölder estimates for weak solutions.

Abstract:This paper investigates the relation between the boundary geometricproperties and the boundary regularity of the solutions of elliptic equations.We prove by a new unified method the pointwise boundary Hölder regularityunder proper geometric conditions. "Unified" means that our method isapplicable for the Laplace equation, linear elliptic equations in divergenceand non-divergence form, fully nonlinear elliptic equations, the p-Laplaceequations and the fractional Laplace equations etc. In addition, thesegeometric conditions are quite general. In particular, for local equations, themeasure of the complement of the domain near the boundary point concerned couldbe zero. The key observation in the method is that the strong maximum principleimplies a decay for the solution, then a scaling argument leads to theHölder regularity. Moreover, we also give a geometric condition, whichguarantees the solvability of the Dirichlet problem for the Laplace equation.The geometric meaning of this condition is more apparent than that of theWiener criterion.

Abstract:We prove Harnack inequality and local regularity results for weak solutions of a quasilinear degenerate equation in divergence form under natural growth conditions. The degeneracy is given by a suitable power of a strong $A_\infty$ weight. Regularity results are achieved under minimal assumptions on the coefficients and, as an application, we prove $C^{1,\alpha}$ local estimates for solutions of a degenerate equation in non divergence form.

Abstract:We show optimal Lipschitz regularity for very weak solutions of the (measure-valued) elliptic PDE $-\mathrm{div}(A(x) \nabla u) = Q \; \mathcal{H}^{n-1} \llcorner \Gamma$ in a smooth domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n$. Here $\Gamma$ is a $C^{1,\alpha}$-regular hypersurface, $Q\in C^{0,\alpha}$ is a density on $\Gamma$, and the coefficient matrix $A$ is symmetric, uniformly elliptic and $W^{1,q}$-regular $(q > n)$. We also discuss optimality of these assumptions on the data. The equation can be understood as a special coupling of two $A$-harmonic functions with an interface $\Gamma$. As such it plays an important role in several free boundary problems, as we shall discuss.

Abstract:The present article investigates the existence, multiplicity and regularity of weak solutions of problems involving a combination of critical Hartree type nonlinearity along with singular and discontinuous nonlinearity. By applying variational methods and using the notion of generalized gradients for Lipschitz continuous functional, we obtain the existence and the multiplicity of weak solutions for some suitable range of $\lambda$ and $\gamma$. Finally by studying the $L^\infty$-estimates and boundary behavior of weak solutions, we prove their Hölder and Sobolev regularity.

$C^{0}$-regularity for solutions of elliptic equations with distributional coefficients

Abstract:In this paper, the continuity of solutions for elliptic equations in divergence form with distributional coefficients is considered. Inspired by the discussion on necessary and sufficient conditions for the form boundedness of elliptic operators by Maz'ya and Verbitsky (Acta Math., 188, 263-302, 2002 and Comm. Pure Appl. Math., 59, 1286-1329, 2006), we propose two kinds of sufficient conditions, which are some Dini decay conditions and some integrable conditions named Kato class or $K^{1}$ class, to show that the weak solution of the Schrödinger type elliptic equation with distributional coefficients is continuous and give an almost optimal priori estimate. These estimates can clearly show that how the coefficients and nonhomogeneous terms influence the regularity of solutions. The $\ln$-Lipschitz regularity and Hölder regularity are also obtained as corollaries which cover the classical De Giorgi's Hölder estimates.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the regularity for viscosity solutions of locally uniformly elliptic equations and obtain a series of interior pointwise $C^{k,\alpha}$ ($k\geq 1$, $0<\alpha<1$) regularity with smallness assumptions on the solution and the right-hand term. As applications, we obtain various interior pointwise regularity for several classical elliptic equations, i.e., the prescribed mean curvature equation, the Monge-Ampère equation, the $k$-Hessian equations, the $k$-Hessian quotient equations and the Lagrangian mean curvature equation. Moreover, the smallness assumptions are necessary in most cases (Remark 2.6, Remark 3.5, Remark 4.7, Remark 5.4 and Remark 6.5).
