Abstract:By using one-dimensional photon state-vector function obtained previously, a general analytic expression is deduced for the optical two-hole interference experiment, which not only greatly enlarges the range of the observable, but also completely represents the probability distribution for a photon in the whole space. On the basis of the basic rules of quantum optics, we quantitatively analyze and discuss the domain of definition of the experiment, and the quantum behavior of the interference item on the average of space.

Abstract:Let HA⊗HB be a bipartite system and ρAB a quantum state on HA⊗HB, ρA=TrB(ρAB), ρB=TrA(ρAB). Then each quantum operation ΦB on the quantum system HB can induce a quantum ensemble {(pμ,ρA,μ)} on quantum system HA. In this Letter, we show that the Holevo quantity χ{(pμ,ρA,μ)} of the quantum ensemble {(pμ,ρA,μ)} can be upper bounded by both subsystem entropies. By using the result, we answer partly a conjecture of Fannes, de Melo, Roga and Życzkowski.

Abstract:Emergence of objective, classical properties in quantum systems can be described in the modern language of quantum information theory. In this work, we present an example of such an analysis. We apply the quantum channel theory to a boson-spin model of open quantum systems and calculate, using recoilless approximation and the Floquet theory, the Hoevo quantity, which bounds the capacity of the channel, broadcasting information about the central system into its environment. We analyze both the short-time regime, showing quadratic in time initial growth of the capacity, and the asymptotic regime. Complicated dependence on the model parameters, such as temperature, tunneling energy for the environment, etc is also analyzed, showing e.g. regimes where the Holevo bound reaches its maximum.

Concrete Quantum Channels and Algebraic Structure of Abstract Quantum Channels

Abstract:This article analyzes the algebraic structure of the set of all quantum channels and its subset consisting of quantum channels that have Holevo representation. The regularity of these semigroups under composition of mappings are analysed. It is also known that these sets are compact convex sets and, therefore, rich in geometry. An attempt is made to identify generalized invertible channels and also the idempotent channels. When channels are of the Holevo type, these two problems are fully studied in this article. The motivation behind this study is its applicability to the reversibility of channel transformations and recent developments in resource-destroying channels, which are idempotents. This is related to the coding-encoding problem in quantum information theory. Several examples are provided, with the main examples coming from pre-conditioner maps which assigns preconditioners to matrices, in numerical linear algebra.Thus the known pre-conditioner maps are viewd as a quantum-channel in finite dimentions.

Abstract:``Beam me over,'' Alice: A cricket's quantum journey This thesis addresses two known quantities in quantum information science: (1) entanglement cost, and (2) Holevo capacity. These quantities will be crucial values when teleportation becomes common in daily life, perhaps centuries from now. Assume that Alice desires to send a singing Japanese cricket to her friend Bob in America, and that Alice and Bob already share a quantum entanglement. First, Alice sends Bob a mass of information bits resulting from the interaction between the cricket she holds in her hand and half of the entanglement. Subsequently, Bob receives the information bits and manipulates the other half of the entanglement, transforming them back into the original cricket. Examining this situation from an instrumental engineering viewpoint, quantifying the amount of the quantum entanglement and the number of information bits is crucial for this transmission. If both values are enough, Alice could even send herself to Bob's place instead of the tiny cricket. The topics of this thesis therefore are: (1) the mathematical properties of the entanglement cost, such as whether it is an additive measure similar to normal length or weight; and (2) how to calculate the Holevo capacity, an ultimately achievable limit of the information conveyance capacity of an information channel, such as of a single photon passing through an optical fiber or space. These two distinct quantities are magically tied together by several ``additive or not'' hypotheses, which await mathematical proof.

Abstract:This paper discusses the foundation of security theory for the Quantum stream cipher based on the Holevo–Yuen theory, which allows the use of "optical amplifiers". This type of cipher is a technology that provides information-theoretic security (ITS) to optical data transmission by randomizing ultrafast optical communication signals with quantum noise. In general, the quantitative security of ITS is evaluated in terms of the unicity distance in Shannon theory. However, the quantum version requires modeling beyond the Shannon model of a random cipher to utilize the characteristics of the physical layer. Therefore, as the first step, one has to develop a generalized unicity distance theory and apply it to the evaluation of security. Although a complete theoretical formulation has not yet been established, this paper explains a primitive structure of a generalization of the Shannon random cipher and shows that the realization of this is the generalized quantum stream cipher. In addition, we present several implementation methods of generalized quantum stream ciphers and their security.

Abstract:The amount of information that a noisy channel can transmit has been one of the primary subjects of interest in information theory. In this work we consider a practically-motivated family of optical quantum channels that can be implemented without an external energy source. We optimize the Holevo information over procedures that encode information in attenuations and phase-shifts applied by these channels on a resource state of finite energy. It is shown that for any given input state and environment temperature, the maximum Holevo information can be achieved by an encoding procedure that uniformly distributes the channel's phase-shift parameter. Moreover for large families of input states, any maximizing encoding scheme has a finite number of channel attenuation values, simplifying the codewords to a finite number of rings around the origin in the output phase space. The above results and numerical evidence suggests that this property holds for all resource states. Our results are directly applicable to the quantum reading of an optical memory in the presence of environmental thermal noise.

Abstract:Quantum information theory is a new interdisciplinary research field related to quantum mechanics, computer science, information theory, and applied mathematics. It provides completely new paradigms to do information processing tasks by employing the principles of quantum mechanics. In this review, we first survey some of the significant advances in quantum information theory in the last twenty years. We then focus mainly on two special subjects: discrimination of quantum objects and transformations between entanglements. More specifically, we first discuss discrimination of quantum states and quantum apparatus in both global and local settings. Secondly, we present systematical characterizations and equivalence relations of several interesting entanglement transformation phenomena, namely entanglement catalysis, multiple-copy entanglement transformation, and partial entanglement recovery.

Abstract:In quantum metrology, the Holevo Cramér-Rao bound has attracted renewed interest in recent years due to its superiority over the Helstrom Cramér-Rao bound and its asymptotic attainability for multi-parameter estimation. Its evaluation, however, is often much more difficult than that of the Helstrom version, calling into question the actual improvement offered by the Holevo CRB and whether it is worth the trouble. Here I prove that the Holevo bound is at most thrice the Helstrom version, so the improvement must be limited. The result also shows that the Helstrom version remains a pretty good bound even for multiple parameters and can be approached asymptotically to within a factor of 3.

Abstract:The purpose of this work is to extend the result of previous papers <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="quant-ph/9611023" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/quant-ph/9611023">quant-ph/9611023</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="quant-ph/9703013" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/quant-ph/9703013">quant-ph/9703013</a> to quantum channels with additive constraints onto the input signal, by showing that the capacity of such channel is equal to the supremum of the entropy bound with respect to all apriori distributions satisfying the constraint. We also make an extension to channels with continuous alphabet. As an application we prove the formula for the capacity of the quantum Gaussian channel with constrained energy of the signal, establishing the asymptotic equivalence of this channel to the semiclassical photon channel. We also study the lower bounds for the reliability function of the pure-state Gaussian channel.

Abstract:The uncertainty principle is the most important feature of quantum mechanics, which can be called the heart of quantum mechanics. This principle sets a lower bound on the uncertainties of two incompatible measurement. In quantum information theory, this principle is expressed in terms of entropic measures. Entropic uncertainty bound can be altered by considering a particle as a quantum memory. In this work we investigate the entropic uncertainty relation under the relativistic motion. In relativistic uncertainty game Alice and Bob agree on two observables, $\hat{Q}$ and $\hat{R}$, Bob prepares a particle constructed from the free fermionic mode in the quantum state and sends it to Alice, after sending, Bob begins to move with an acceleration $a$, then Alice does a measurement on her particle $A$ and announces her choice to Bob, whose task is then to minimize the uncertainty about the measurement outcomes. we will have an inevitable increase in the uncertainty of the Alic's measurement outcome due to information loss which was stored initially in B. In this work we look at the Unruh effect as a quantum noise and we will characterize it as a quantum channel.

Abstract:While originally motivated by quantum computation, quantum error correction (QEC) is currently providing valuable insights into many-body quantum physics, such as topological phases of matter. Furthermore, mounting evidence originating from holography research (AdS/CFT) indicates that QEC should also be pertinent for conformal field theories. With this motivation in mind, we introduce quantum source-channel codes, which combine features of lossy compression and approximate quantum error correction, both of which are predicted in holography. Through a recent construction for approximate recovery maps, we derive guarantees on its erasure decoding performance from calculations of an entropic quantity called conditional mutual information. As an example, we consider Gibbs states of the transverse field Ising model at criticality and provide evidence that they exhibit nontrivial protection from local erasure. This gives rise to the first concrete interpretation of a bona fide conformal field theory as a quantum error correcting code. We argue that quantum source-channel codes are of independent interest beyond holography.

Abstract:Back in the 1960s, based on Wiener's thought, Shikao Ikehara (first student of <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://N.Wiener" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>) encouraged the progress of Hisaharu Umegaki's research from a pure mathematical aspect in order to further develop the research on mathematical methods of quantum information at Tokyo Institute of Technology. Then, in the 1970s, based on the results accomplished by Umegaki Group, Ikehara instructed the author to develop and spread quantum information science as the global information science. While Umegaki Group's results have been evaluated as major achievements in pure mathematics, their contributions to current quantum information science have not been fully discussed. This paper gvies a survey of my talk in the memorial seminar on Ikehara, in which Ikehara and Umegaki Group's contributions to design theory of quantum communication have been introduced with specific examples such as quantum relative entropy and quantum Pinsker inequality.

Abstract:Performance profiling consists of tracing a software system during execution and then analyzing the obtained traces. However, traces themselves affect the performance of the system distorting its execution. Therefore, there is a need to minimize the effect of the tracing on the underlying system's performance. To achieve this, the trace set needs to be optimized according to the performance profiling problem being solved. Our position is that such minimization can be achieved only by adding the software trace design and implementation to the overall software development process. In such a process, the performance analyst supplies the knowledge of performance measurement requirements, while the software developer supplies the knowledge of the software. Both of these are needed for an optimal trace placement.

Abstract:We develop an approximation approach to infinite dimensional quantum channels based on detailed investigation of the continuity properties of entropic characteristics of quantum channels and operations (trace-nonincreasing completely positive maps) as functions of a pair ``channel, input state''. The obtained results are then applied to the following problems: continuity of the $\chi$-capacity as function of a channel; strong additivity of the $\chi$-capacity for infinite dimensional channels; the analytical expression for the convex closure of the output entropy of arbitrary quantum channel.

Abstract:Network information theory is the study of communication problems involving multiple senders, multiple receivers and intermediate relay stations. The purpose of this thesis is to extend the main ideas of classical network information theory to the study of classical-quantum channels. We prove coding theorems for quantum multiple access channels, quantum interference channels, quantum broadcast channels and quantum relay channels. A quantum model for a communication channel describes more accurately the channel's ability to transmit information. By using physically faithful models for the channel outputs and the detection procedure, we obtain better communication rates than would be possible using a classical strategy. In this thesis, we are interested in the transmission of classical information, so we restrict our attention to the study of classical-quantum channels. These are channels with classical inputs and quantum outputs, and so the coding theorems we present will use classical encoding and quantum decoding. We study the asymptotic regime where many copies of the channel are used in parallel, and the uses are assumed to be independent. In this context, we can exploit information-theoretic techniques to calculate the maximum rates for error-free communication for any channel, given the statistics of the noise on that channel. These theoretical bounds can be used as a benchmark to evaluate the rates achieved by practical communication protocols. Most of the results in this thesis consider classical-quantum channels with finite dimensional output systems, which are analogous to classical discrete memoryless channels. In the last chapter, we will show some applications of our results to a practical optical communication scenario, in which the information is encoded in continuous quantum degrees of freedom, which are analogous to classical channels with Gaussian noise.

Abstract:So far, quantum key distribution (QKD) has been the main subject in the field of quantum cryptography, but that is not quantum cryptographic communication, it is only the ability to send keys for cryptographic purposes. To complete cryptographic communication, a technique for encrypting data is necessary, and the conventional cryptographic technique of mathematical symmetric key cipher or One Time Pad (OTP) is adopted in the discussion so far. However, OTP is not the ultimate cipher for data encryption, because it does not satisfy security conditions in the modern cryptology. Around 2000, a new quantum stream cipher was proposed as a technique to challenge the possibility of overcoming drawbacks of OTP in practical use. Recently, we have published some review papers on it in Entropy (Open access journal), and others. This paper introduces an overview and a back ground of our paper that is entitled Quantum stream cipher based on Holevo-Yuen theory.
