Abstract:The notion of $\varepsilon$-multiplicity was originally defined by Ulrich and Validashti as a limsup and they used it to detect integral dependence of modules. It is important to know if it can be realized as a limit. In this article we show that the relative epsilon multiplicity of reduced standard graded algebras over an excellent local ring exists as a limit. We also obtain some important special cases of Cutkosky's results concerning $\varepsilon$-multiplicity, as corollaries of our main theorem.

Abstract:Let A be a connected graded algebra and let E denote its Ext-algebra. There is a natural A-infinity algebra structure on E, and we prove that this structure is mainly determined by the relations of A. In particular, the coefficients of the A-infinity products m_n restricted to the tensor powers of Ext^1 give the coefficients of the relations of A. We also relate the m_n's to Massey products.

Abstract:This article investigates the computational aspects of the $\varepsilon$-multiplicity. Primarily, we show that the $\varepsilon$-multiplicity of a homogeneous ideal $I$ in a two-dimensional standard graded domain of finite type over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic, is always a rational number. In this situation, we produce a formula for the $\varepsilon$-multiplicity of $I$ in terms of certain mixed multiplicities associated to $I$. In any dimension, under the assumptions that the saturated Rees algebra of $I$ is finitely generated, we give a different expression of the $\varepsilon$-multiplicity in terms of mixed multiplicities by using the Veronese degree. This enabled us to make various explicit computations of $\varepsilon$-multiplicities. We further write a Macaulay2 algorithm to compute $\varepsilon$-multiplicity (under the Noetherian hypotheses) even when the base ring is not necessarily standard graded.

Abstract:We prove new multiplicity results for some elliptic problems with critical exponential growth. More specifically, we show that the problems considered here have arbitrarily many solutions for all sufficiently large values of a certain parameter $\mu > 0$. In particular, the number of solutions goes to infinity as $\mu \to \infty$. The proof is based on an abstract critical point theorem.

Abstract:It is well known by the strong multiplicity one that π is uniquely determined by the Satake parameter c(π, v) for almost all v. Also, it suffices for us to test only finitely many v. We proved some S-effective version of multiplicity one theorems. Roughly speaking, if π and π′ are not equivalent, then there is also a bound $$\mathfrak{N}(S)$$ which is some expression in terms of K, d and max(N(π), N(π′)), which are analytic conductor of π and π′, respectively (will be defined soon), such that there is a v ∉ S with πv ≌ π′v and $$N\mathfrak{p}_v < \mathfrak{N}$$. We also proved S-effective multiplicity one for the Chebotarev Density Theorem, and for GL(1).

On the multiplicity of the eigenvalues of discrete tori

Abstract:It is well known that the standard flat torus $\mathbb{T}^2=\mathbb{R}^2/\Z^2$ has arbitrarily large Laplacian-eigenvalue multiplicities. We prove, however, that $24$ is the optimal upper bound for the multiplicities of the nonzero eigenvalues of a $2$-dimensional discrete torus. For general higher dimension discrete tori, we characterize the eigenvalues with large multiplicities. As consequences, we get uniform boundedness results of the multiplicity for a long range and an optimal global bound for the multiplicity. Our main tool of proof is the theory of vanishing sums of roots of unity.

Abstract:Let $f: \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{C}$ be a multiplicative function for which $$ \sum_{p : \, |f(p)| \neq 1} \frac{1}{p} = \infty. $$ We show under this condition alone that for any integer $h \neq 0$ the set $$ \{n \in \mathbb{N} : f(n) = f(n+h) \neq 0\} $$ has logarithmic density 0. We also prove a converse result, along with an application to the Fourier coefficients of holomorphic cusp forms. The proof involves analysing the value distribution of $f$ using the compositions $|f|^{it}$, relying crucially on various applications of Tao's theorem on logarithmically-averaged correlations of non-pretentious multiplicative functions. Further key inputs arise from the inverse theory of sumsets in continuous additive combinatorics.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic behavior of a multiple series of Mordell-Tornheim type and its integral analogue at x=0. Our approach is to show a relation between the multiple series and its integral analogue by using Abel's summation formula, and to deeply investigate the behavior of the integral analogue. Additionally, we establish some nontrivial relations among multiple polylogarithms by comparing two seemingly different asymptotic formulas for the integral analogue.

Abstract:It is known that extreme characters of several inductive limits of compact groups exhibit multiplicativity in a certain sense. In the paper, we formulate such multiplicativity for inductive limit quantum groups and provide explicit examples of multiplicative characters in the case of quantum unitary groups. Abstract:We prove some abstract multiplicity theorems that can be used to obtain multiple nontrivial solutions of critical growth $p$-Laplacian and $(p,q)$-Laplacian type problems. We show that the problems considered here have arbitrarily many solutions for all sufficiently large values of a certain parameter $\lambda > 0$. In particular, the number of solutions goes to infinity as $\lambda \to \infty$. Moreover, we give an explicit lower bound on $\lambda$ in order to have a given number of solutions. This lower bound is in terms of a sequence of eigenvalues constructed using the ${\mathbb Z}_2$-cohomological index. This is a consequence of the fact that our abstract multiplicity results make essential use of the piercing property of the cohomological index, which is not shared by the genus. Our result for the $p$-Laplacian is new even in the semilinear case $p = 2$.
