Abstract:Recently Freed and Hopkins [11] proved that there is no parity anomaly in M-theory on pin(+) manifolds in the low-energy field theory approximation, and they also developed an algebraic theory of cubic forms. Earlier Witten [33] proved the anomaly cancellation for spin manifolds by introducing the E-8-bundle technique. Motivated by the cubic forms and the anomaly cancellation formulas of Witten-Freed-Hopkins, we give some new cubic forms on spin, spinc(e), spin(omega 2) and orientable 12-manifolds respectively. We relate them to eta-invariants when the manifolds are with boundary, and mod 2 indices on 10 dimensional characteristic submanifolds when the manifolds are spinc or spin(omega 2). Our method of producing these cubic forms is a combination of (generalized) Witten classes and the character of the basic representation of affine E-8. (C) 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:An explicit formula to compute the multiplicative anomaly or defect of $\zeta$-regularized products of linear factors is derived, by using a Feynman parametrization, generalizing Shintani-Mizuno formulas. Firstly, this is applied on $n$-spheres, reproducing known results in the literature. Then, this framework is applied to a closed Einstein universe at finite temperature, namely $S^1_{\beta}\times S^{n-1}$. In doing so, it is shown that the standard Casimir energy for GJMS operators coincides with the accumulated multiplicative anomaly for the shifted Laplacians that build them up. This equivalence between Casimir energy and multiplicative anomaly, unnoticed so far to our knowledge, brings about a new turn regarding the physical significance of the multiplicative anomaly, putting both now on equal footing. An emergent improved Casimir energy, that takes into account the multiplicative anomaly among the building Laplacians, is also discussed.

Abstract:We derive a stochastic representation for determinants of Laplace-type operators on vectors bundles over manifolds. Namely, inverse powers of those determinants are written as the expectation of a product of holonomies defined over Brownian loop soups. Our results hold over compact manifolds of dimension 2 or 3, in the presence of mass or a boundary. We derive a few consequences, including some regularity as a function of the operator and the conformal invariance of the zeta function on surfaces.

Abstract: According to Sakellaridis, many zeta integrals in the theory of automorphic forms can be produced or explained by appropriate choices of a Schwartz space of test functions on a spherical homogeneous space, which are in turn dictated by the geometry of affine spherical embeddings. We pursue this perspective by developing a local counterpart and try to explicate the functional equations. These constructions are also related to the $L^2$-spectral decomposition of spherical homogeneous spaces in view of the Gelfand-Kostyuchenko method. To justify this viewpoint, we prove the convergence of $p$-adic local zeta integrals under certain premises, work out the case of prehomogeneous vector spaces and re-derive a large portion of Godement-Jacquet theory. Furthermore, we explain the doubling method and show that it fits into the paradigm of $L$-monoids developed by L. Lafforgue, B. C. Ngo et al., by reviewing the constructions of Braverman and Kazhdan (2002). In the global setting, we give certain speculations about global zeta integrals, Poisson formulas and their relation to period integrals.

Abstract:- The purpose of this article is to study possible concentrations of eigenfunc-tions of Laplace operators (or more generally quasi-modes) on product manifolds. We show that the approach of the first author and Zworski [10, 11] applies (modulo rescalling) and deduce new stabilization results for weakly damped wave equations which extend to product manifolds previous results by Leautaud-Lerner [12] obtained for products of tori.

Abstract:The Euclidean renormalization bundle considered in QFT by Connes, Kreimer, and Marcolli has been extended, in a remarkable series of papers by S Agarwala, to Riemannian manifolds $(X,g)$: in particular by the construction of a flat connection on that bundle, regarded as defined over a thickening of $X$ by an infinitesimal disk. The theory of Fourier integral operators on manifolds reconciles dimensional and zeta-function regularization by interpreting this disk as the germ of a neighborhood of a Jordan curve around $\infty$ on the Riemann sphere. Such fields $X \to \Omega S^2$ were proposed in \cite{14} as useful in these contexts.

Abstract:We study non-holomorphic modular forms built from iterated integrals of holomorphic modular forms for SL(2, Z ) known as equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals. A special subclass of them furnishes an equivalent description of the modular graph forms appearing in the low-energy expansion of string amplitudes at genus one. Notably the Fourier expansion of modular graph forms contains single-valued multiple zeta values. We deduce the appearance of products and higher-depth instances of multiple zeta values in equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals, and ultimately modular graph forms, from the appearance of simpler odd Riemann zeta values. This analysis relies on so-called zeta generators which act on certain non-commutative variables in the generating series of the iterated integrals. From an extension of these non-commutative variables we incorporate iterated integrals involving holomorphic cusp forms into our setup and use them to construct the modular completion of triple Eisenstein integrals. Our work represents a fully explicit realisation of the modular graph forms within Brown's framework of equivariant iterated Eisenstein integrals and reveals structural analogies between single-valued period functions appearing in genus zero and one string amplitudes.

Low-Energy Theorems and Linearity Breaking in Anomalous Amplitudes

Abstract:This study seeks a better comprehension of anomalies by exploring (n+1)-point perturbative amplitudes in a 2n-dimensional framework. The involved structures combine axial and vector vertices into odd tensors. This configuration enables diverse expressions, considered identities at the integrand level. However, connecting them is not automatic after loop integration, as the divergent nature of amplitudes links to surface terms. The background to this subject is the conflict between the linearity of integration and the translational invariance observed in the context of anomalies. That makes it impossible to simultaneously satisfy all symmetry and linearity properties, constraints that arise through Ward identities and relations among Green functions. Using the method known as Implicit Regularization, we show that trace choices are a means to select the amount of anomaly contributions appearing in each symmetry relation. Such an idea appeared through recipes to take traces in recent works, but we introduce a more complete view. We also emphasize low-energy theorems of finite amplitudes as the source of these violations, proving that the total amount of anomaly remains fixed regardless of any choices.

Asymptotically multiplicative quantum invariants

Abstract:The Euler characteristic and the volume are two best-known multiplicative invariants of manifolds under finite covers. On the other hand, quantum invariants of 3-manifolds are not multiplicative. We show that a perturbative power series, introduced by Dimofte and the first author and shown to be a topological invariant of cusped hyperbolic 3-manifolds by Storzer--Wheeler and the first author, and conjectured to agree with the asymptotics of the Kashaev invariant to all orders in perturbation theory, is asymptotically multiplicative under cyclic covers. Moreover, its coefficients are determined by polynomials constructed out of twisted Neumann--Zagier data. This gives a new $t$-deformation of the perturbative quantum invariants, different than the $x$-deformation obtained by deforming the geometric representation. We illustrate our results with several hyperbolic knots.

Abstract:Let $P$ be a point of a compact Riemann surface $X$. We study self-adjoint extensions of the Dolbeault Laplacians in hermitian line bundles $L$ over $X$ initially defined on sections with compact supports in $X\backslash\{P\}$. We define the $\zeta$-regularized determinants for these operators and derive comparison formulas for them. We introduce the notion of the Robin mass of $L$. This quantity enters the comparison formulas for determinants and is related to the regularized $\zeta(1)$ for the Dolbeault Laplacian. For spinor bundles of even characteristic, we find an explicit expression for the Robin mass. In addition, we propose an explicit formula for the Robin mass in the scalar case. Using this formula, we describe the evolution of the regularized $\zeta(1)$ for scalar Laplacian under the Ricci flow. As a byproduct, we find an alternative proof for the Morpurgo result that the round metric minimizes the regularized $\zeta(1)$ for surfaces of genus zero.

Zero Order Estimates for Analytic Functions

Abstract:The primary goal of this paper is to provide a general multiplicity estimate. Our main theorem allows to reduce a proof of multiplicity lemma to the study of ideals stable under some appropriate transformation of a polynomial ring. In particular, this result leads to a new link between the theory of polarized algebraic dynamical systems and transcendental number theory. On the other hand, it allows to establish an improvement of Nesterenko's conditional result on solutions of systems of differential equations. We also deduce, under some condition on stable varieties, the optimal multiplicity estimate in the case of generalized Mahler's functional equations, previously studied by Mahler, Nishioka, Topfer and others. Further, analyzing stable ideals we prove the unconditional optimal result in the case of linear functional systems of generalized Mahler's type. The latter result generalizes a famous theorem of Nishioka (1986) previously conjectured by Mahler (1969), and simultaneously it gives a counterpart in the case of functional systems for an important unconditional result of Nesterenko (1977) concerning linear differential systems. In summary, we provide a new universal tool for transcendental number theory, applicable with fields of any characteristic. It opens the way to new results on algebraic independence, as shown in Zorin (2010).

Abstract:We derive residue formulas for the regularized integrals (introduced by Li-Zhou) on configuration spaces of elliptic curves. Based on these formulas, we prove that the regularized integrals satisfy holomorphic anomaly equations, providing a mathematical formulation of the so-called contact term singularities. We also discuss residue formulas for the ordered $A$-cycle integrals and establish their relations with those for the regularized integrals.

Abstract:We begin with modular form periods, a focal point of several Yuri Manin's works. The similarity is discussed between the corresponding zeta-polynomials and superpolynomials of algebraic links, closely related to Khovanov-Rozansky polynomials. We focus on DAHA superpolynomials and motivic ones, defined via compactified Jacobians of plane curve singularities and their counterparts in arbitrary ranks; the non-unibranch construction is new. They conjecturally coincide with the corresponding generalizations of L-functions and satisfy the Riemann Hypothesis in some sectors of the parameters. Presumably, the motivic ones an be interpreted as certain partition functions of Landau-Ginzburg models associated with plane curve singularities; RH for them is remarkably similar to the Lee-Yang circle theorem for Ising models. A q,t-deformation of the Witten index is obtained as an application. General perspectives of the motivic theory of isolated curve and surface singularities are discussed, including possible implications in number theory. Also, we introduce super-analogs of $\rho_{ab}$-invariants and discuss super-deformations of the Riemann's zeta. Among other topics: Verlinde algebras, and the topological vertex.

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak g$ be an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra, and $G$ be the algebraic completion of a $\mathfrak g$-module. Using the geometric model of Schottky uniformization of Riemann sphere to obtain a higher genus Riemann surface, we construct a family of parametric extensions of coboundary operators for the double complexes of meromorphic functions depending on elements of $G$, and possessing prescribed analytic properties.

Abstract:In this paper we study the zeta functions associated to the minimal spherical principal series of representations for a class of reductive p-adic symmetric spaces, which are realized as open orbits of some prehomogeneous spaces. These symmetric spaces have been studied in the paper arXiv: <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2003.05764" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2003.05764">2003.05764</a>. We prove that the zeta functions satisfy a functional equation which is given explicitly (see Theorem 4.3.9 and Theorem 4.4.5). Moreover, for a subclass of these spaces, we define L-functions and epsilon-factors associated to the representations.

Abstract:In this paper, we define a generalized elliptic genus of an almost complex manifold with an extra complex bundle which generalize the elliptic genus in [10]. This generalized elliptic genus is a generalized Jacobi form. By this generalized Jacobi form, we can get some SL(2,Z) modular forms. By these SL(2,Z) modular forms, we get some interesting anomaly cancellation formulas for an almost complex manifold . As corollaries, we get some divisibility results of the holomorphic Euler characteristic number.

Abstract:We study a particular type of Einstein warped-product manifold where the warping function must satisfy the homogeneous version of the screened Poisson equation. Under these assumptions, we show that the dimension of the manifold, the (constant negative) Ricci curvature and the screened parameter are related through a quadratic equation.
