Abstract:We introduce quantum association schemes. This allows to define distance regular and strongly regular quantum graphs. We bring examples thereof. In addition, we formulate the duality for translation quantum association schemes corresponding to finite quantum groups.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper discusses the quantum generalization of classical association schemes, called Quantum Association Schemes. The authors introduce the concept of quantum association schemes, replacing finite sets and graphs in the classical case with non-commutative quantum spaces and quantum graphs, and define corresponding quantum distance regularity and strongly regular graphs. The paper also discusses the duality of quantum association schemes and how these concepts are generalized in the context of quantum groups and quantum graphs.
Specifically, the authors first introduce the classical definition of association schemes, including their properties as sets of matrices such as closeness under matrix multiplication, conjugate transpose, and Schur product. Then, the authors propose quantum association schemes, where classical sets are replaced by finite quantum spaces and matrices are replaced by quantum matrices. Although the matrix sets of quantum association schemes may still be commutative, the graphs they define are quantum graphs, defined on non-commutative quantum spaces.
The paper further discusses special types of quantum association schemes: quantum distance regularity and strongly regular graphs, as well as the duality of quantum association schemes. The definition of duality involves commutative matrix multiplication and Schur product, as well as conjugate transpose and complex conjugation. The authors show that even in the case of a formal and non-constructive definition of duality for quantum association schemes, their duality can still be constructed for the translation of quantum association schemes.
In addition, the paper introduces quantum Latin squares, which can be used to construct strongly regular quantum graphs, and provides some fundamental concepts of quantum spaces and quantum graphs, such as Frobenius *-algebras and their graph representations.
In conclusion, this paper aims to develop the theory of quantum association schemes and explore their applications in quantum information theory and quantum group theory, particularly in duality and the structure of quantum graphs.
