Abstract:We extend Gow's theorem on products of semisimple regular conjugacy classes to finite groups whose generalized Fitting subgroup is Z(G)S where S is a quasisimple group of Lie type in characteristic p and Z(G) has order prime to p.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### The problems the paper attempts to solve
This paper aims to expand the application scope of Gow's theorem. Specifically, the author hopes to generalize Gow's theorem to more general finite groups \(G\) that satisfy the following conditions:
1. **Generalized Fitting subgroup**: \(F^*(G) = Z(G)S\), where \(S\) is a simply - connected quasi - simple Lie - type group with characteristic \(p\).
2. **Order of the center**: The order of \(Z(G)\) is of \(p'\)-order (that is, \(p\) does not divide \(|Z(G)|\)).
### Introduction to Gow's theorem
Gow's theorem was originally proposed by Rod Gow, stating that the product of any two regular semisimple classes \(aG\) and \(bG\) contains all non - trivial semisimple elements \(x\in G\), where \(G\) is a finite simple Lie - type group. This result has been used in many applications and has been further generalized to any simply - connected quasi - simple Lie - type group.
### Goals of the extension
The main goal of this paper is to prove that under the above conditions, for certain types of conjugate classes \(aG\) and \(bG\), their product can cover all elements \(g\in G\) of certain types. In particular, the authors focus on how to maintain and generalize the results of Gow's theorem under this more general group structure.
### Main conclusions
An important corollary of the article is:
**Corollary 1**: Let \(G\) be as described above. Suppose the order of \(a\in G\) is coprime to \(p\), and the order of \(|C_S(a)|\) is also coprime to \(p\), and \(s\in S\setminus Z(S)\) is a semisimple element. Then there exist \(t, u\in S\) such that \(st = [a, u]\).
Furthermore, the author also gradually proves through a series of lemmas and propositions that under more general group structures and under specific conditions, \(g\in aGbG\) holds, and finally obtains the main theorem (Theorem 6), and verifies it in different types of group pairs \((G, S)\).
### Summary
By introducing new conditions and techniques, this paper successfully generalizes Gow's theorem to more general finite group structures, especially under the constraints of the generalized Fitting subgroup and the order of the center. This not only expands the application scope of the original theorem but also provides a theoretical basis for follow - up research.
