Abstract:We establish supercongruences for two kinds of Apéry-like numbers, which involve Bernoulli numbers and Bernoulli polynomials. Conjectural supercongruences of the same type for another four kinds of Apéry-like numbers are also proposed.

Abstract:Kimoto and Wakayama [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré D 10 (2023), 205–275] studied the special values of the spectral zeta function associated to the non-commutative harmonic oscillator . Two kinds of Apéry-like numbers (even case and odd case ) naturally arise in the expressions for the special values of at integer points. Supercongruences among these Apéry-like numbers lead one to the modularity of the generating functions of the Apéry-like numbers. Kimoto and Wakayama established a supercongruence among , and conjectured the same type of supercongruence for as in the even case . In this work, we confirm Kimoto and Wakayama's supercongruence conjecture in the odd case of Apéry-like numbers .

An extension of Gauss congruences for Apéry numbers

Abstract:Osburn, Sahu and Straub introduced the numbers: \begin{align*} A_n^{(r,s,t)}=\sum_{k=0}^n{n\choose k}^r{n+k\choose k}^s{2k\choose n}^t, \end{align*} for non-negative integers $n,r,s,t$ with $r\ge 2$, which includes two kinds of Apéry numbers and four kinds of Apéry-like numbers as special cases, and showed that the numbers $\{A_n^{(r,s,t)}\}_{n\ge 0}$ satisfy the Gauss congruences of order $3$. We establish an extension of Osburn--Sahu--Straub congruence through Bernoulli numbers, which is one step deep congruence of the Gauss congruence for $A_n^{(r,s,t)}$.

On the binomial transforms of Apéry-like sequences

Abstract:In the proof of the irrationality of $\zeta(3)$ and $\zeta(2)$, Apéry defined two integer sequences through $3$-term recurrences, which are known as the famous Apéry numbers. Zagier, Almkvist--Zudilin and Cooper successively introduced the other $13$ sporadic sequences through variants of Apéry's $3$-term recurrences. All of the $15$ sporadic sequences are called Apéry-like sequences. Motivated by Gessel's congruences mod $24$ for the Apéry numbers, we investigate the congruences in the form $u_n\equiv \alpha^n \pmod{N_{\alpha}}~(\alpha\in \mathbb{Z},N_{\alpha}\in \mathbb{N}^{+})$ for all of the $15$ Apéry-like sequences $\{u_n\}_{n\ge 0}$. Let $N_{\alpha}$ be the largest positive integer such that $u_n\equiv \alpha^n \pmod{N_{\alpha}}$ for all non-negative integers $n$. We determine the values of $\max\{N_{\alpha}|\alpha \in \mathbb{Z}\}$ for all of the $15$ Apéry-like sequences $\{u_n\}_{n\ge 0}$.The binomial transforms of Apéry-like sequences provide us a unified approach to this type of congruences for Apéry-like sequences.

Abstract:Recently, using modular forms F. Beukers posed a unified method that can deal with a large number of supercongruences involving binomial coefficients and Apéry-like numbers. In this paper, we use Beukers' method to prove some conjectures of the first author concerning the congruences for $$\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\binom{2k}k^3}{m^k}, \ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{\binom{2k}k^2\binom{4k}{2k}}{m^k}, \ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{\binom{2k}k\binom{3k}k\binom{6k}{3k}}{m^k}, \ \sum_{n=0}^{p-1}\frac{V_n}{m^n},\ \sum_{n=0}^{p-1}\frac{T_n}{m^n},\ \sum_{n=0}^{p-1}\frac{D_n}{m^n} $$ and $\sum_{n=0}^{p-1}(-1)^nA_n$ modulo $p^3$, where $p$ is an odd prime representable by some suitable binary quadratic form, $m$ is an integer not divisible by $p$, $V_n=\sum_{k=0}^n\binom{2k}k^2\binom{2n-2k}{n-k}^2$, $T_n=\sum_{k=0}^n\binom nk^2\binom{2k}n^2$, $D_n=\sum_{k=0}^n\binom nk^2\binom{2k}k\binom{2n-2k}{n-k}$ and $A_n$ is the Apéry number given by $A_n=\sum_{k=0}^n\binom nk^2\binom{n+k}k^2$.

Abstract:Let p > 3 be a prime. A p -adic congruence is called a super congruence if it happens to hold modulo some higher power of p . The topic of super congruences is related to many fields including Gauss and Jacobi sums and hypergeometric series. We prove that ∑_k = 0^p - 1( _k^2k)/2^k ≡( - 1)^( p - 1)/ . - 2 - p^2 E_p - 3( p^3 ), ∑_k = 1^( p - 1)/ . - 2( _k^2k)/k≡( - 1)^( p + 1)/ . - 28/3pE_p - 3( p^2 ), ∑_k = 0^( p - 1)/ . - 2( _k^2k)^2 /16^k ≡( - 1)^( p - 1)/ . - 2 + p^2 E_p - 3( p^3 ), where E 0 , E 1 , E 2 , ... are Euler numbers. Our new approach is of combinatorial nature. We also formulate many conjectures concerning super congruences and relate most of them to Euler numbers or Bernoulli numbers. Motivated by our investigation of super congruences, we also raise a conjecture on 7 new series for π 2 , π −2 and the constant K: = ∑_k = 1^∞( k3)/ . -k^2 (with (−) the Jacobi symbol), two of which are ∑_k = 1^∞( 10k - 3)8^k /k^3 ( _k^2k)^2 ( _k^3k) = π ^2 /2 and ∑_k = 1^∞( 15k - 4)( - 27)^k - 1/k^3 ( _k^2k)^2 ( _k^3k) = K.

Abstract:In this paper we establish some congruences involving the Apu0027ery numbers $beta_{n}=sum_{k=0}^{n}binom{n}{k}^2binom{n+k}{k}$ $(n=0,1,2,ldots)$. For example, we show that $$sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(11k^2+13k+4)beta_kequiv0pmod{2n^2}$$ for any positive integer $n$, and $$sum_{k=0}^{p-1}(11k^2+13k+4)beta_kequiv 4p^2+4p^7B_{p-5}pmod{p^8}$$ for any prime $pu003e3$, where $B_{p-5}$ is the $(p-5)$th Bernoulli number. The first supercongruence confirms a recent conjecture of the second author. The second supercongruence confirms a conjecture of Guo, Liu and Schlosser partially, and gives a parametric extension of a supercongruence of Long and Ramakrishna.

Abstract:Let $\{A'_n\}$ be the Apéry numbers given by $A'_n=\sum_{k=0}^n\binom nk^2\binom{n+k}k.$ For any prime $p\equiv 3\pmod 4$ we show that $A'_{\frac{p-1}2}\equiv \frac{p^2}3\binom{\frac{p-3}2}{\frac{p-3}4}^{-2}\pmod {p^3}$. Let $\{t_n\}$ be given by $$t_0=1,\ t_1=5\quad\hbox{and}\quad t_{n+1}=(8n^2+12n+5)t_n-4n^2(2n+1)^2t_{n-1}\ (n\ge 1).$$ We also obtain the congruences for $t_p\pmod {p^3},\ t_{p-1}\pmod {p^2}$ and $t_{\frac{p-1}2}\pmod {p^2}$, where $p$ is an odd prime.

Abstract:The Apéry polynomials are given byAn(x)=∑k=0n(nk)2(n+kk)2xk(n=0,1,2,…). (Those An=An(1) are Apéry numbers.) Let p be an odd prime. We show that∑k=0p−1(−1)kAk(x)≡∑k=0p−1(2kk)316kxk(modp2), and that∑k=0p−1Ak(x)≡(xp)∑k=0p−1(4kk,k,k,k)(256x)k(modp) for any p-adic integer x≢0(modp). This enables us to determine explicitly ∑k=0p−1(±1)kAkmodp, and ∑k=0p−1(−1)kAkmodp2 in the case p≡2(mod3). Another consequence states that∑k=0p−1(−1)kAk(−2)≡{4x2−2p(modp2)if p=x2+4y2(x,y∈Z),0(modp2)if p≡3(mod4). We also prove that for any prime p>3 we have∑k=0p−1(2k+1)Ak≡p+76p4Bp−3(modp5) where B0,B1,B2,… are Bernoulli numbers.
