Abstract:We show that finite dimensional Banach spaces fail to be uniformly non locally almost square. Moreover, we construct an equivalent almost square bidual norm on $\ell_\infty.$ As a consequence we get that every dual Banach space containing $c_0$ has an equivalent almost square dual norm. Finally we characterize separable real almost square spaces in terms of their position in their fourth duals.

Abstract:We establish two fixed point theorems for nonlinear operators on Banach spaces partially ordered by a cone. The first fixed point theorem is concerned with a class of mixed monotone operators. In the second fixed point theorem, the nonlinear operators are neither monotone nor mixed monotone. We also provide an illustrative example for our second result.

Let $(z_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ be a sequence in $Z$ such that: (a) for each $n\in \mathbb{N}$, the set $\{M(z_n):M\in \mathcal{M}\}$ is relatively norm compact; (b) for each sequence $(M_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ in $\mathcal{M}$, the series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty M_n(z_n)$ is weakly unconditionally Cauchy. Abstract:We prove that all isometric actions of higher rank simple Lie groups and their lattices on arbitrary uniformly convex Banach spaces have a fixed point. This vastly generalises a recent breakthrough of Oppenheim. Combined with earlier work of Lafforgue and of Liao on strong Banach property (T) for non-Archimedean higher rank simple groups, this confirms a long-standing conjecture of Bader, Furman, Gelander and Monod. As a consequence, we deduce that sequences of Cayley graphs of finite quotients of a higher rank lattice are super-expanders.

Abstract:Some fixed point results of classical theory, such as Banach's Fixed Point Theorem, have been previously extended by other authors to asymmetric spaces in recent years. The aim of this paper is to extend to asymmetric spaces some others fixed point results for contractions, shrinkage maps and non-expansive maps. In fact, a version of Edelstein type theorem (Theorem 21), Schauder type theorem (Theorem 22), and Kirk type theorem (Theorem 26) are stated and proved in this new context. In order to do that, classical definitions and results were adapted to this new context. Also, the normal structure in the asymmetric case was considered.
