Abstract:In this study, we present a new closed form for the generalized integral $$\int_0^1 \frac{\mathrm{Li}_2(z) \ln(1+az)}{z}\, \mathrm{d}z,$$ where $a \in \mathbb{C} \setminus(-\infty, -1)$ and $\mathrm{Li}_2(z)$ is the dilogarithm function. This extension is achieved by leveraging our established findings in conjunction with Vălean's results. Furthermore, we provide explicit closed forms for associated integrals, prove a transformation formula for double infinite series, expressing them as the sum of the square of an infinite series and another infinite series. We utilize this relationship to derive a novel closed form for the generalized series $$\sum_{k=1}^\infty \frac{ \zeta\left(m, \frac{rk-s}{r}\right) }{(rk-s)^m},$$ for $\Re(m) > 1$, $r, s \in \mathbb{C}$, where $r \neq 0$, $rk \neq s$, for any positive integer $k$, and $\zeta(s, z)$ denotes the Hurwitz zeta function. Utilizing Hermite's integral representation for $\zeta(s, z)$, we derive a generalized integral series from this series.

Abstract:Recently, we established and used the generalized Littlewood theorem concerning contour integrals of the logarithm of analytical function to obtain new criteria equivalent to the Riemann hypothesis. The same theorem was subsequently applied to calculate certain infinite sums and study the properties of zeroes of a few analytical functions. In this article, we discuss what are, in a sense, inverse applications of this theorem. We first prove a Lemma that if two meromorphic on the whole complex plane functions f(z) and g(z) have the same zeroes and poles, taking into account their orders, and have appropriate asymptotic for large |z|, then for some integer n, dnln(f(z))dzn=dnln(g(z))dzn. The use of this Lemma enables proofs of many identities between elliptic functions, their transformation and n-tuple product rules. In particular, we show how exactly for any complex number a, ℘(z)-a, where ℘(z) is the Weierstrass ℘ function, can be presented as a product and ratio of three elliptic θ1 functions of certain arguments. We also establish n-tuple rules for some elliptic theta functions.

Abstract:Motivated essentially by their potential for applications in a wide range of mathematical and physical problems, the Log-Sine integrals have been evaluated, in the existing literature on the subject, in many different ways. The main object of this paper is to show how nicely some general formulas analogous to the generalized Log-Sine integral $Ls_n^{(m)}\left(\frac{\pi}{3}\right)$ can be obtained by using the theory of Polylogarithms. Relevant connections of the results presented here with those obtained in earlier works are also indicated precisely.

Abstract:We introduce an iterated integral version of (generalized) log-sine integrals (iterated log-sine integrals) and prove a relation between a multiple polylogarithm and iterated log-sine integrals. We also give a new method for obtaining relations among multiple zeta values, which uses iterated log-sine integrals, and give alternative proofs of several known results related to multiple zeta values and log-sine integrals.

Abstract:In 1769, Euler proved the following result $$ \int_0^{\frac\pi2}\log(\sin \theta) d\theta=-\frac\pi2 \log2. $$ In this paper, as a generalization, we evaluate the definite integrals $$ \int_0^x \theta^{r-2}\log\left(\cos\frac\theta2\right)d\theta $$ for $r=2,3,4,\ldots.$ We show that it can be expressed by the special values of Kurokawa and Koyama's multiple cosine functions $\mathcal{C}_r(x)$ or by the special values of alternating zeta and Dirichlet lambda functions. In particular, we get the following explicit expression of the zeta value $$ \zeta(3)=\frac{4\pi^2}{21}\log\left(\frac{e^{\frac{4G}{\pi}}\mathcal{C}_3\left(\frac14\right)^{16}}{\sqrt2}\right), $$ where $G$ is Catalan's constant and $\mathcal{C}_3\left(\frac14\right)$ is the special value of Kurokawa and Koyama's multiple cosine function $\mathcal{C}_3(x)$ at $\frac14$. Furthermore, we prove several series representations for the logarithm of multiple cosine functions $\log\mathcal{C}_r\left(\frac x{2}\right)$ by zeta functions, $L$-functions or polylogarithms. One of them leads to another expression of $\zeta(3)$: $$\zeta(3)=\frac{72\pi^2}{11}\log\left(\frac{3^{\frac1{72}}\mathcal{C}_3\left(\frac16\right)}{\mathcal{C}_2\left(\frac16\right)^{\frac13}}\right).$$

On the Stieltjes Approximation Error to Logarithmic Integral

Abstract:This paper studies the error introduced ($\displaystyle \varepsilon(x)$) by the Stieltjes asymptotic approximation series $\displaystyle li_{*}(x) = \frac{x}{\log(x)}\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\frac{k!}{\log^{k}(x)} + (\log(x)-n)\frac{xn!}{\log^{n+1}(x)}$ to the logarithmic integral function $li(x)$ with $\displaystyle n = \lfloor \log(x) \rfloor$ for all $x\ge e$. For this purpose, this paper uses some relations between term $\displaystyle \frac{n!}{\log^{n}(x)}$ and Stirling's approximation formula. In particular, this paper establishes two non-asymptotic lower and upper bounds for $\varepsilon(e^n)$ with $n \ge 1$ and $1 \le m \le n$: (i) $\displaystyle \varepsilon(e^m) + \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{8}\sum_{k=m+1}^{n} \frac{1}{k^{\frac{3}{2}}} \le \varepsilon(e^n) \le \varepsilon(e^{m}) + \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{4}\sum_{k=m+1}^{n} \frac{k+2}{k^{\frac{5}{2}}}$ (ii) $\displaystyle L_m - \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{4\sqrt{n+1}} \le \varepsilon_{n} \le R_m - \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{2\sqrt{n}} - \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{3\sqrt{n^3}}$. Here, $\displaystyle L_m = \varepsilon_{m} + \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{4\sqrt{m+1}}$ and $\displaystyle R_m = \varepsilon_{m} + \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{2\sqrt{m}} + \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{3\sqrt{m^3}}$ Moreover, this paper shows that if $\displaystyle |\varepsilon(x)| \le \frac{\sqrt{2\pi}}{\sqrt{\log(x)}}$ then $li(e^n) \le li_{*}(e^n)$ for all $n \ge 1$. Such relations find application in perturbative quantum field theory, quantum chemistry, analytic number theory, and elsewhere. Abstract:Through a unified and relatively simple approach which uses complex contour integrals, particularly convenient integration contours and calculus of residues, closed-form summation formulas for 12 very general families of trigonometric sums are deduced. One of them is a family of cosecant sums which was first summed in closed form in a series of papers by Dowker (1987 Phys. Rev. D 36 3095-101; 1989 J. Math. Phys. 30 770-3; 1992 J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 25 2641-8), whose method has inspired our work in this area. All of the formulas derived here involve the higher-order Bernoulli polynomials.This article is part of a special issue of Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical in honour of Stuart Dowker's 75th birthday devoted to 'Applications of zeta functions and other spectral functions in mathematics and physics'.

Abstract:This is a translation of an article presented by Leonhard Euler on 18 March 1776 (Opera Omnia I-XVIII, pp. 265-290) and of summaries for it by Siméon Denis Poisson in 1820 and by Heinrich Burkhardt in 1916. An appendix lists in modern notation interesting definite integrals and series which Euler, after using partial fractions to prove his main formula, obtained formally by allowing the parameters $n, p, zeta and theta$ to take particular, even pure imaginary, values : the Fourier cosine and two-sided Laplace transforms of the trigonometric and of the hyperbolic secant (also squared), and their partial fraction decomposition. Abstract:In this article, we improve on two explicit bounds of order $\log t$ for $\sigma$ close to $1$: $|\zeta'(\sigma +it)/\zeta(\sigma +it)|$ and $|1/\zeta(\sigma +it)|$. Our method provides marked improvements in the constants, especially with regards to the latter. These savings come from replacing a lemma of Borel and Carathédory, with a Jensen-type one of Heath-Brown's. Using an argument involving the trigonometric polynomial, we additionally provide a slight asymptotic improvement: $1/\zeta(\sigma +it) \ll (\log t)^{11/12}$.

Abstract:Finite sums of powers of cosecants appear in a wide range of physical problems. We, through a unified approach which uses contour integrals and residues, establish the summation formulas for two general families of such sums. One of them is the family which was first studied and summed in closed form by Dowker [Phys. Rev. D 36, 3095 (1987)], while the other is related to it and has not been studied before. Our summation formulas of the Dowker sums involve only the Stirling numbers of the first kind and the (ordinary) Bernoulli polynomials and numbers, unlike the earlier summation formulas in which either the higher-order Bernoulli numbers and polynomials or the multiple sums involving the Bernoulli numbers and their products, were used. A great deal of other (known or presumably new) closed-form summations follows as straightforward corollaries to these formulas. Among them are two special cases of the celebrated Verlinde’s formula and numerous sums encountered in various physical problems by McCoy and Orrick [J. Stat. Phys. 83, 839 (1996)], Gervois and Mehta [J. Math. Phys. 36, 5098 (1995)], and Henkel and Lacki [Phys. Lett. A 138, 105 (1989)].

Abstract:In this paper we give new consequences that follow from our formula for increments of the Hardy-Littlewood integral. Main of these consequences is an $\zeta$-equivalent of the Fermat-Wiles theorem. It is expressed purely by means of the Riemann's zeta-function on the critical line and by the Jacob's ladder.

Abstract:We have established novel integral representations of the Riemann zeta-function and Dirichlet eta-function based on powers of trigonometric functions and digamma function, and then use these representations to find close forms of Laurent series expansions of these same powers of trigonometric functions and digamma function. The so obtained series can be used to find numerous summation rules for certain values of the Riemann zeta and related functions and numbers, such as e.g. Bernoulli and Euler numbers.
