Abstract:Recently, Fulman developed some general connections between martingales and character ratios of a random representation of the symmetric group on transitions, and obtained a convergence rate in a central limit theorem. In this work we aim to establish the law of the iterated logarithm for character ratios. The technique is a well-known Skorokhod embedding theorem for martingales and strong approximation argument. Also, bounded martingale difference methods are used to obtain a large deviation for character ratios.

Abstract:For the sequence of ρ˜-mixing identically distributed random variables, we show two general strong laws of large numbers (SLLNs) in which the coefficient of sum and the weight are both general functions, and as a consequence we obtain the Marcinkiewicz SLLN. By using the strong approximation method, we obtain that for any −1 < b ≤ 1, lim⁡ε↘0ε2b+2∑n=1∞(log⁡n)bnP(Mn≥εσnlog⁡n)=2E|N|(2b+2)b+1∑k=0∞(−1)k(2k+1)2b+2 if and only if Ex = 0 and Ex2 < ∞, which strengthen and extend the result of Gut and Spǎtaru [1], where N is the standard normal random variable. Furthermore, L2 convergence and a.s. convergence are also discussed.

Abstract:We establish strong invariance principles for sums of stationary ρ-mixing random variables with finite and infinite second moments under weaker mixing rates.Some earlier results are improved.As applications,some results of the law of the iterated logarithm with finite and infinite variance are obtained,also a conjecture raised by Shao in 1993 is solved.
