Abstract:We prove that an exotic fusion system described by Grazian on a subgroup of the Monster group is block-exotic, thus proving that exotic and block-exotic fusion systems are the same for all $p$-groups with sectional rank 3, where $p \geq 5$.

Abstract:We describe several exotic fusion systems related to the Sporadic simple groups at odd primes. More generally, we classify saturated fusion systems supported on Sylow $3$-subgroups of the Conway group $\mathrm{Co}_1$ and the Thompson group $\mathrm{F}_3$, and a Sylow $5$-subgroup of the Monster $\mathrm{M}$, as well as a particular maximal subgroup of the latter two $p$-groups. This work is supported by computations in MAGMA.

Abstract:In this paper we study the saturated fusion systems over a direct product of the extraspecial group of order p(3) of exponent p and a finite abelian p-group. Abstract:We determine the conjugacy class fusion from certain maximal subgroups of the Monster to the Monster, to justify the addition of these data to the Character Table Library in the computational algebra system GAP. The maximal subgroups in question are $(\text{PSL}_2(11) {\times} \text{PSL}_2(11)){:}4$, $11^2{:}(5 {\times} 2\text{A}_5)$, $7^2{:}\text{SL}_2(7)$, and $\text{PSL}_2(19){:}2$. Our proofs are supported by reproducible calculations carried out using the Python package mmgroup, a computational construction of the Monster recently developed by Seysen.

Abstract:Abstract The transporter systems of Oliver and Ventura and the localities of Chermak are classes of algebraic structures that model the ‐local structures of finite groups. Other than the transporter categories and localities of finite groups, important examples include centric, quasicentric, and subcentric linking systems for saturated fusion systems. These examples are, however, not defined in general on the full collection of subgroups of the Sylow group. We study here punctured groups , a short name for transporter systems or localities on the collection of nonidentity subgroups of a finite ‐group. As an application of the existence of a punctured group, we show that the subgroup homology decomposition on the centric collection is sharp for the fusion system. We also prove a Signalizer Functor Theorem for punctured groups and use it to show that the smallest Benson–Solomon exotic fusion system at the prime 2 has a punctured group, while the others do not. As for exotic fusion systems at odd primes , we survey several classes and find that in almost all cases, either the subcentric linking system is a punctured group for the system, or the system has no punctured group because the normalizer of some subgroup of order is exotic. Finally, we classify punctured groups restricting to the centric linking system for certain fusion systems on extraspecial ‐groups of order .

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime and $S$ a nonabelian finite $p$-group. In [9, 10], they proposed the following conjecture: if $\mathcal{F}$ be a transitive fusion system over a finite $p$-group $S$, then $S$ is either extraspecial of order $p^{3}$ or elementary abelian. In this note, we use an easy method to prove that this conjecture holds when the $p$-rank of $S$ is 2.

Abstract:An $\mathcal{F}$-essential subgroup is called a pearl if it is either elementary abelian of order $p^2$ or non-abelian of order $p^3$. In this paper we start the investigation of fusion systems containing pearls: we determine a bound for the order of $p$-groups containing pearls and we classify the saturated fusion systems on $p$-groups containing pearls and having sectional rank at most $4$.

Abstract:In the early 1990s, Puig created his theory of fusion systems as a tool in modular representation theory. Later, Broto, Levi and Oliver used this theory to provide a formal setting for and prove results about the p -completed classifying spaces of finite groups. Aschbacher also started a program to establish a local theory of fusion systems similar to the local theory of finite groups. In this paper, we define the notion of ranks for fusion systems which imitates the notion of p -local ranks for finite groups and prove some results about weakly normal subsystems and factor systems.

Abstract:We propose a conjecture that is a substantial generalization of the genus zero assertions in both Monstrous Moonshine and Modular Moonshine. Our conjecture essentially asserts that if we are given any homomorphism to the complex numbers from a representation ring of a group ring for a subgroup of the Monster, we obtain a Hauptmodul by applying this homomorphism to a self-dual integral form of the Moonshine module. We reduce this conjecture to the genus-zero problem for "quasi-replicable" functions, by applying Borcherds's integral form of the Goddard-Thorn no-ghost theorem together with some analysis of the Laplacian on an integral form of the Monster Lie algebra. We prove our conjecture for cyclic subgroups of the Monster generated by elements in class 4A, and we explicitly determine the multiplicities for a decomposition of the integral Moonshine Module into indecomposable modules of the integral group rings for these groups.

Abstract:The pointed fusion system of a block is a structure consisting of the fusions and relative multiplicities between the local pointed groups associated with a maximal Brauer pair. Abstract:Seysen's Python package mmgroup provides functionality for fast computations within the sporadic simple group $\mathbb{M}$, the Monster. The aim of this work is to present an mmgroup database of maximal subgroups of $\mathbb{M}$: for each conjugacy class $C$ of maximal subgroups in $\mathbb{M}$, we construct explicit group elements in mmgroup and prove that these elements generate a group in $C$. Our generators and the computations verifying correctness are available in accompanying code. The maximal subgroups of $\mathbb{M}$ have been classified in a number of papers spanning several decades; our work constitutes an independent verification of these constructions. We also correct the claim that $\mathbb{M}$ has a maximal subgroup $\mathrm{PSL}_2({59})$, and hence identify a new maximal subgroup $59{:}29$.

On Frobenius-Schur exponent bounds

Abstract:Here we study bounds on the Frobenius-Schur exponent of spherical fusion categories based on their global dimension generalizing bounds from the representation theory of finite-dimensional quasi-Hopf algebras. Our main result is that if the Frobenius-Schur exponent of a modular fusion category is a prime power for some prime integer $p$, then it is bounded by the norm of its global dimension when $p$ is odd, and four times the norm of its global dimension when $p=2$; these bounds are optimal. If one assumes in addition pseudounitarity, the categories achieving the optimal bound are completely described and we attain similar bounds and classifications for arbitrary spherical fusion categories. This proof includes an explicit classification of modular fusion categories of Frobenius-Perron dimension $p^5$; all examples which are not pointed are constructed explicitly from the Ising categories and the representation theory of extraspecial $p$-groups.
