Abstract:For any prime p and S a p-group isomorphic to a Sylow p-subgroup of a rank simple group of Lie type in characteristic p, we determine all saturated fusion systems supported on S up to isomorphism.

Abstract:We determine all reduced saturated fusion systems supported on a finite $p$-group of nilpotency class two. As a consequence, we obtain a new proof of Gilman & Gorenstein's classification of finite simple groups with class two Sylow $2$-subgroups.

Abstract:We determine for which known finite simple groups $G$ and which primes $p$ the $p$-fusion system of $G$ is simple. This means first collecting together the results that were already known (and correcting two errors made in an earlier study of this question), and then handling the remaining cases. At the same time, we develop some new tools to use when determining $O^{p'}(\mathcal{F})$ for arbitrary saturated fusion systems.

Abstract:We describe several exotic fusion systems related to the Sporadic simple groups at odd primes. More generally, we classify saturated fusion systems supported on Sylow $3$-subgroups of the Conway group $\mathrm{Co}_1$ and the Thompson group $\mathrm{F}_3$, and a Sylow $5$-subgroup of the Monster $\mathrm{M}$, as well as a particular maximal subgroup of the latter two $p$-groups. This work is supported by computations in MAGMA.

Abstract:In this paper we study the saturated fusion systems over a direct product of the extraspecial group of order p(3) of exponent p and a finite abelian p-group. The result provides some new exotic fusion systems, whose unique components are isomorphic to the exotic fusion systems over 7+1+2 found by Ruiz and Viruel.

Abstract:In the early 1990s, Puig created his theory of fusion systems as a tool in modular representation theory. Later, Broto, Levi and Oliver used this theory to provide a formal setting for and prove results about the p -completed classifying spaces of finite groups. Aschbacher also started a program to establish a local theory of fusion systems similar to the local theory of finite groups. In this paper, we define the notion of ranks for fusion systems which imitates the notion of p -local ranks for finite groups and prove some results about weakly normal subsystems and factor systems.

Abstract:In this paper we study the saturated fusion systems $\mathcal {F}$ over $\mathcal {A}_2$-groups S of order greater than $p^4$. This study requires the analysis of the possible saturated fusion systems in terms of the $\mathcal {F}$-automorphisms of the possible $\mathcal {F}$-centric and $\mathcal {F}$-radical subgroups. Also, for each case in the classification, either S is resistant or $\mathcal {F}$ is constrained. The classification identifies a large family of resistant groups complementing the results on resistant groups found by various authors such as Green–Minh, Stancu, and Díaz–Ruiz–Viruel. Moreover, the classification provides some interesting examples of saturated fusion systems which have an $\mathcal {F}$-essential abelian subgroup of index p.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime and $S$ a nonabelian finite $p$-group. In [9, 10], they proposed the following conjecture: if $\mathcal{F}$ be a transitive fusion system over a finite $p$-group $S$, then $S$ is either extraspecial of order $p^{3}$ or elementary abelian. In this note, we use an easy method to prove that this conjecture holds when the $p$-rank of $S$ is 2.

Abstract:In this paper we study the saturated fusion systems ℱ over 𝒜_2 -groups S of order greater than p^4 . Abstract:Let p be a prime and let F be a saturated fusion system over a finite p-group P. A fusion system F is said to be nilpotent if F=FP(P). We give various criteria for a saturated fusion system F to be nilpotent, which generalize the analogous criteria for a finite group to be p-nilpotent.

Abstract:We consider complex characters of a p-group P, which are invariant under a fusion system F on P. Extending a theorem of Bárcenas--Cantarero to non-saturated fusion systems, we show that the number of indecomposable F-invariant characters of P is greater or equal than the number of F-conjugacy classes of P. We further prove that these two quantities coincide whenever F is realized by a p-solvable group. On the other hand, we observe that this is false for constrained fusion systems in general. Finally, we construct a saturated fusion system with an indecomposable F-invariant character, which is not a summand of the regular character of P. This disproves a recent conjecture of Cantarero--Combariza.

Realizability and tameness of fusion systems

Abstract:A saturated fusion system over a finite $p$-group $S$ is a category whose objects are the subgroups of $S$ and whose morphisms are injective homomorphisms between the subgroups satisfying certain axioms. A fusion system over $S$ is realized by a finite group $G$ if $S$ is a Sylow $p$-subgroup of $G$ and morphisms in the category are those induced by conjugation in $G$. One recurrent question in this subject is to find criteria as to whether a given saturated fusion system is realizable or not. One main result in this paper is that a saturated fusion system is realizable if all of its components (in the sense of Aschbacher) are realizable. Another result is that all realizable fusion systems are tame: a finer condition on realizable fusion systems that involves describing automorphisms of a fusion system in terms of those of some group that realizes it. Stated in this way, these results depend on the classification of finite simple groups, but we also give more precise formulations whose proof is independent of the classification.

Abstract:Abstract We classify all (saturated) fusion systems on bicyclic 2-groups. Here, a bicyclic group is a product of two cyclic subgroups. This extends previous work on fusion systems on metacyclic 2-groups. As an application we prove Olsson's conjecture for all blocks with bicyclic defect groups.

Abstract:An $\mathcal{F}$-essential subgroup is called a pearl if it is either elementary abelian of order $p^2$ or non-abelian of order $p^3$. In this paper we start the investigation of fusion systems containing pearls: we determine a bound for the order of $p$-groups containing pearls and we classify the saturated fusion systems on $p$-groups containing pearls and having sectional rank at most $4$.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime, $S$ be a $p$-group and $\mathcal{F}$ be a saturated fusion system over $S$. Then $\mathcal{F}$ is said to be supersolvable, if there exists a series of $S$, namely $1 = S_0 \leq S_1 \leq \cdots \leq S_n = S$, such that $S_{i+1}/S_i$ is cyclic, $i=0,1,\cdots, n-1$, $S_i$ is strongly $\mathcal{F}$-closed, $i=0,1,\cdots,n$. In this paper, we investigate the characterizations for supersolvability of $\mathcal{F}_S (G)$ under the assumption that certain subgroups of $G$ satisfy different kinds of generalized normalities in section \ref{1003}. Moreover, we obtain the more advanced and remarkable result of characterizations for generalized saturated fusion system $\mathcal{F}$ in section \ref{Section 4}. Finally, we apply the results in section \ref{1003} and \ref{Section 4} and give characterizations for $p$-nilpotency of finite groups under the assumption that some subgroups of $G$ satisfy different kinds of generalized normalities.

Realizability of fusion systems by discrete groups

Abstract:For a prime $p$, fusion systems over discrete $p$-toral groups are categories that model and generalize the $p$-local structure of Lie groups and certain other infinite groups in the same way that fusion systems over finite $p$-groups model and generalize the $p$-local structure of finite groups. In the finite case, it is natural to say that a fusion system $\mathcal{F}$ is realizable if it is isomorphic to the fusion system of a finite group, but it is less clear what realizability should mean in the discrete $p$-toral case. In this paper, we look at some of the different types of realizability for fusion systems over discrete $p$-toral groups, including realizability by linear torsion groups and sequential realizability, of which the latter is the most general. After showing that fusion systems of compact Lie groups are always realized by linear torsion groups (hence sequentially realizable), we give some new tools for showing that certain fusion systems are not sequentially realizable, and illustrate it with two large families of examples.
