Abstract:The factorization of harmonic maps from a simply-connected domain Omega subset of C boolean OR {infinity} to the unitary group is studied, showing that the theory of isotropic harmionic maps is equivalent to that of 2-unitons. Furthermore, a positive answer is given to the Uhlenbeck's conjecture on the upper bound of minimal uniton numbers.

Abstract:Let $mathbf G$ be a complex orthogonal or complex symplectic group, and let $G$ be a real form of $mathbf G$, namely $G$ is a real orthogonal group, a real symplectic group, a quaternionic orthogonal group, or a quaternionic symplectic group. For a fixed parity $mathbb pin mathbb Z/2mathbb Z$, we define a set $mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$ of nilpotent $mathbf G$-orbits $mathfrak g$ (the Lie algebra of $mathbf G$). When $mathbb p$ is the parity of the dimension of the standard module of $mathbf G$, this is the set of the stably trivial special nilpotent orbits, which includes all rigid special nilpotent orbits. For each $mathcal O in mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$, we construct all unipotent representations of $G$ (or its metaplectic cover when $G$ is a real symplectic group and $mathbb p$ is odd) attached to $mathcal O$ via the method of theta lifting and show particular that they are unitary.

Abstract: Let $G$ be a real reductive group in Harish-Chandra's class. We derive some consequences of theory of coherent continuation representations to the counting of irreducible representations of $G$ with a given infinitesimal character and a given bound of the complex associated variety. When $G$ is a real classical group (including the real metaplectic group), we investigate the set of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$, in the sense of Arthur and Barbasch-Vogan. Here $\check{\mathcal O}$ is a nilpotent adjoint orbit in the Langlands dual of $G$ (or the metaplectic dual of $G$ when $G$ is a real metaplectic group). We give a precise count for the number of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{ \mathcal O}$. We also reduce the problem of constructing special unipotent representations attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$ to the case when $\check{\mathcal O}$ is analytically even (equivalently for a real classical group, has good parity in the sense of M{\oe}glin). The paper is the first in a series of two papers on the classification of special unipotent representations of real classical groups.

Abstract:In this article, by studying the Bernstein degrees and Goldie rank polynomials, we establish a comparison between the irreducible representations of G = GL n （C） possessing the minimal Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and those induced from finite-dimensional representations of the maximal parabolic subgroup of G of type（n-1, 1）. We give the transition matrix between the two bases for the corresponding coherent families.

Abstract:A quasi-representation of a group is a map from the group into a matrix algebra (or similar object) that approximately satisfies the relations needed to be a representation. Work of many people starting with Kazhdan and Voiculescu, and recently advanced by Dadarlat, Eilers-Shulman-Sørensen and others, has shown that there are topological obstructions to approximating unitary quasi-representations of groups by honest representations, where `approximation' is understood to be with respect to the operator norm. The purpose of this paper is to explore whether approximation is possible if the known obstructions vanish, partially generalizing work of Gong-Lin and Eilers-Loring-Pedersen for the free abelian group of rank two, and the Klein bottle group. We show that this is possible, at least in a weak sense, for some `low-dimensional' groups including fundamental groups of closed surfaces, certain Baumslag-Solitar groups, free-by-cyclic groups, and many fundamental groups of three manifolds. The techniques used in the paper are $K$-theoretic: they have their origin in Baum-Connes-Kasparov type assembly maps, and in the Elliott program to classify $C^*$-algebras; Kasparov's bivariant KK-theory is a crucial tool. The key new technical ingredients are: a stable uniqueness theorem in the sense of Dadarlat-Eilers and Lin that works for non-exact $C^*$-algebras; and an analysis of maps on $K$-theory with finite coefficients in terms of the relative eta invariants of Atiyah-Patodi-Singer. Despite the proofs going through $K$-theoretic machinery, the main theorems can be stated in elementary terms that do not need any $K$-theory.

Abstract:In this paper, using Gromov-Jost-Korevaar-Schoen technique of harmonic maps to nonpositively curved targets, we study the representations of the fundamental groups of quasiprojective varieties. As an application of the above considerations we give a proof of a weak version of the Shafarevich Conjecture.

Abstract:We obtain a Lie theoretic intrinsic characterization of the connected and simply connected solvable Lie groups whose regular representation is a factor representation. When this is the case, the corresponding von Neumann algebras are isomorphic to the hyperfinite II$_\infty$ factor, and every Casimir function is constant. We thus obtain a family of geometric models for the standard representation of that factor. Finally, we show that the regular representation of any connected and simply connected solvable Lie group with open coadjoint orbits is always of type I, though the group needs not be of type I, and include some relevant examples.

Abstract:Generating relations and irreducible representations are given for the icosahedral point group, I(h), that are suited to computerized projection of symmetry-adapted bases of arbitrary spaces invariant to the group. With 120 elements I(h ) is a good prototype for symmetry-adaptation to a large finite nonabelian group. The four- and five-dimensional irreducible representations are obtained by coupling direct products of the three-dimensional irreducible representations using the symmetry-adaptation algorithm. The method is applied to the Hückel treatment of icosahedral C(20) fullerene.

Abstract:We develop vertex and factorisation algebra analogues of the theory of quasitriangular bialgebras. Analogously to the classical theory, we prove their categories of representations are controlled by spectral R-matrices. In the vertex algebra case this generalises previous notions due to Etingof-Kazhdan and Frenkel-Reshetikhin. Finally we give examples, including Borcherds twists and homology vertex algebras.

Abstract:In this article, we prove some general theorems about representations of finite groups arising from the inner semidirect product of groups. We show how these results can be used for standard applications of group theory in quantum chemistry through the orthogonality relations for the characters of irreducible representations. In this context, conditions for transitions between energy levels, projection operators, and basis functions were determined. This approach applies to composite systems and it is illustrated by the dihedral group related to glycolate oxidase enzyme. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract:Some of the most classically relevant Hyperplane arrangements are the Braid Arrangements $B_n$ and their associated compliment spaces $\mathcal{F}_n$. In their recent work, Tsilevich, Vershik, and Yuzvinsky construct what they refer to as the intrinsic hyperplane arrangement within any irreducible representation of the symmetric group that generalize the classical braid arrangements. Through examples it is also shown that the associated compliment spaces to these intrinsic arrangements display behaviors far removed from $\mathcal{F}_n$. In this work we study the intrinsic hyperplane arrangements of irreducible representations of the symmetric group from the perspective of representation stability. This work is both theoretical, proving representation stability theorems for hyperplane complements, as well as statistical, examining the outputs of a number of simulations designed to enumerate flats.

Abstract:Classifications and representations are two main topics in the theory of quadratic forms. In this paper, we consider these topics of ternary quadratic forms. For a given squarefree integer $N$, first we give the classification of positive definite ternary quadratic forms of level $4N$ explicitly. Second, we give explicit formulas of the weighted sum of representations over each class in every genus of ternary quadratic forms of level $4N$, which are involved with modified Hurwitz class number. In the proof of the main results, we use the relations among ternary quadratic forms, quaternion algebras, and Jacobi forms. As a corollary, we get the formula for the class number of positive ternary quadratic forms of level $4N$. As applications, we derive an explicit base of Eisenstein series space of modular forms of weight $3/2$ and level $4N$, and give new proofs of some interesting identities involving representation number of ternary quadratic forms.

The product of all such normal subgroups of G, whose G-chief factors are F-central in G, is called the F-hypercentre of G and denoted by Z(F) (G). Abstract:We classify $n$-representation infinite algebras $\Lambda$ of type Ã. This type is defined by requiring that $\Lambda$ has higher preprojective algebra $\Pi_{n+1}(\Lambda) \simeq k[x_1, \ldots, x_{n+1}] \ast G$, where $G \leq \operatorname{SL}_{n+1}(k)$ is finite abelian. For the classification, we group these algebras according to a more refined type, and give a combinatorial characterisation of these types. This is based on so-called height functions, which generalise the height function of a perfect matching in a Dimer model. In terms of toric geometry and McKay correspondence, the types form a lattice simplex of junior elements of $G$. We show that all algebras of the same type are related by iterated $n$-APR tilting, and hence are derived equivalent. By disallowing certain tilts, we turn this set into a finite distributive lattice, and we construct its maximal and minimal elements.
