Abstract:This paper proves the existence of a chiral map with alternating automorphism group for every hyperbolic type. We present a set of constructions using permutations for when at least one parameter is even, and call on previously known results for when both the valency and the face-length are odd.

Abstract:With the help of the theory of holomorphic and anti-holomorphic differentials, G. A. Jones [Chiral covers of hypermaps, Ars Math. Contemp. 8 (2015), 425-431] proved that every regular hypermap of a non-spherical type is covered by an infinite number of orientably-regular but chiral hypermaps of the same type. We present a different proof of the same result for regular maps, based on parallel products of maps and existence of chiral maps of a given hyperbolic type with a symmetric or an alternating automorphism group.

Abstract:This paper is an exploration of the faithful transitive permutation representations of the orientation-preserving automorphisms groups of highly symmetric toroidal maps and hypermaps. The main theorems of this paper give a list of all possible degrees of these specific groups. This extends prior accomplishments of the authors, wherein their focus was confined to the study of the automorphisms groups of toroidal regular maps and hypermaps. In addition the authors bring out the recently developed {\sc GAP} package {\sc corefreesub} that can be used to find faithful transitive permutation representations of any group. With the aid of this powerful tool, the authors show how Schreier coset graphs of the automorphism groups of toroidal maps and hypermaps can be easily constructed.

Abstract:A pair of surgeries on a knot is chirally cosmetic if they result in homeomorphic manifolds with opposite orientations. Using recent methods of Ichihara, Ito, and Saito, we show that, except for the (2, 5) and (2, 7)-torus knots, the genus 2 and 3 alternating odd pretzel knots do not admit any chirally cosmetic surgeries. Further, we show that for a fixed genus, at most finitely many alternating odd pretzel knots admit chirally cosmetic surgeries.

Abstract:A natural generalization of a Lie algebra connection, or Yang-Mills field, to the case of a Lie-Kac superalgebra, for example SU(m/n), just in terms of ordinary complex functions and differentials, is proposed. Using the chirality χ which defines the supertrace of the superalgebra: STr (...) = Tr ( χ... ), we construct a covariant differential: D = χ ( d + A ) + Φ, where A is the standard even Lie-subalgebra connection 1-form and Φ a scalar field valued in the odd module. Despite the fact that Φ is a scalar, Φ anticommutes with ( χA ) because χ anticommutes with the odd generators hidden in Φ. Hence the curvature F = DD is a superalgebra-valued linear map which respects the Bianchi identity and correctly defines a chiral parallel transport compatible with a generic Lie superalgebra structure.

Abstract:Each transversal degree-d hypersurface ℳ in a weighted projective space defines a Landau-Ginzburg orbifold, the superpotential of which equals the defining polynomial of ℳ. For a generic such ℳ with trivial canonical class, the degree-0 (mod d) subring of the Jacobian ring (that is, the (c, c)-ring of the Landau-Ginzburg orbifold) is shown to admit an [Formula: see text] action and the corresponding Lefschetz-type decomposition. This leads to a general definition of a “large complex structure” limit, the mirror of the “large volume” limit, and the mirror images on ⊕qH3−q,q of the Hodge *-operator, duality and inner product on ⊕qHq,q.

Abstract:A Cayley hyperdigraph is a directed hypergraph that its automorphism group contains a subgroup acting regularly on vertices and a Cayley hypermap is a hypermap whose automorphism group contains a subgroup which induces regular action on the hypervertex set. In this paper, we study Cayley hyperdigraphs and construct Cayley hypermaps which have high level of symmetry. Our main goal is to present the general theory so as to make it clear to study Cayley hypermaps.

Abstract:We consider chiral-type systems admitting a Lax representation with values in a real or complex semisimple Lie algebra such that an additional regularity condition is satisfied (one of the matrices is a regular element of the Lie algebra). We prove that for a chiral-type system with vanishing torsion and a nonvanishing curvature, the existence of at least one pointwise cosymmetry is a necessary condition for the regular Lax representation.

Abstract:An abstract polytope of rank n is said to be chiral if its automorphism group has two orbits on the flags, such that adjacent flags belong to distinct orbits. Examples of chiral polytopes have been difficult to find. A "mixing" construction lets us combine polytopes to build new regular and chiral polytopes. By using the chirality group of a polytope, we are able to give simple criteria for when the mix of two polytopes is chiral.

Abstract:We show that a special alternating knot with sufficiently large number (more than $63$) of twist regions has no chirally cosmetic surgeries, a pair of Dehn surgeries producing orientation-reversingly homeomorphic $3$-manifolds. In the course of proof, we provide the optimal upper bounds of the primitive finite type invariants of degree 2 and 3 that solve Willerton's conjecture.

Abstract:Given a chiral d-polytope K with regular facets, we describe a construction for a chiral (d + 1)-polytope P with facets isomorphic to K. Furthermore, P is finite whenever K is finite. We provide explicit examples of chiral 4-polytopes constructed in this way from chiral toroidal maps.

Special affine representations for hyperbolic groups

Abstract:In this paper we extend the construction of special representations to Gromov hyperbolic groups which admits complementary series. We prove that these representations have a natural non-trivial reduced cohomology class $[c]$. An analogue of Kuhn-Vershik's formula is established and as a by-product a characterisation of hyperbolic groups that admit complementary series. Investigating dynamical properties of the cohomology class $[c]$ we prove an cocycle equidistribution theorem á la Roblin-Margulis and deduce the irreducibility of the associated affine actions. The irreducibility of the affine actions associated to the canonical class $[c]$ is original even in the case of uniform lattices in $SO(n,1)$, $SU(n,1)$ or $SL_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ with $n\ge 1$ and $p$ prime.

Planar Graphs with Homomorphisms to the 9-cycle

Abstract:We study the problem of finding homomorphisms into odd cycles from planar graphs with high odd-girth. The Jaeger-Zhang conjecture states that every planar graph of odd-girth at least $4k+1$ admits a homomorphism to the odd cycle $C_{2k+1}$. The $k=1$ case is the well-known Grötzsch's $3$-coloring theorem. For general $k$, in 2013 Lovász, Thomassen, Wu, and Zhang showed that it suffices to have odd-girth at least $6k+1$. Improvements are known for $C_5$ and $C_7$ in [Combinatorica 2017, SIDMA 2020, Combinatorica 2022]. For $C_9$ we improve this hypothesis by showing that it suffices to have odd-girth 23. Our main tool is a variation on the potential method applied to modular orientations. This allows more flexibility when seeking reducible configurations. The same techniques also prove some results on circular coloring of signed planar graphs.

Abstract:A pair of surgeries on a knot is chirally cosmetic if they result in homeomorphic manifolds with opposite orientations. We find new obstructions to the existence of such surgeries coming from Heegaard Floer homology; in particular, we make use of immersed curve formulations of knot Floer homology and the corresponding surgery formula. As an application, we completely classify chirallly cosmetic surgeries on odd alternating pretzel knots, and we rule out such surgeries for a large class of Whitehead doubles. Furthermore, we rule out cosmetic surgeries for L-space knots along slopes with opposite signs.

Abstract:We prove that infinite regular and chiral maps take place on surfaces with at most one end. Moreover, we prove that an infinite regular or chiral map on an orientable surface with genus can only be realized on the Loch Ness monster, that is, the topological surface of infinite genus with one end.

Abstract:We study chirally cosmetic surgeries, that is, a pair of Dehn surgeries on a knot producing homeomorphic 3-manifolds with opposite orientations. Several constraints on knots and surgery slopes to admit such surgeries are given. Our main ingredients are the original and the ${\rm SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$ version of Casson invariants. As applications, we give a complete classification of chirally cosmetic surgeries on alternating knots of genus one.

Abstract:We introduce the chiral domain of an arrangement of cameras $\mathcal{A} = \{A_1,\dots, A_m\}$ which is the subset of $\mathbb{P}^3$ visible in $\mathcal{A}$. It generalizes the classical definition of chirality to include all of $\mathbb{P}^3$ and offers a unifying framework for studying multiview chirality. We give an algebraic description of the chiral domain which allows us to define and describe a chiral version of Triggs' joint image. We then use the chiral domain to re-derive and extend prior results on chirality due to Hartley.

Abstract:Let $A(\ell,n,k)$ denote the number of $\ell$-tuples of commuting permutations of $n$ elements whose permutation action results in exactly $k$ orbits or connected components. We provide a new proof of an explicit formula for $A(\ell,n,k)$ which is essentially due to Bryan and Fulman, in their work on orbifold higher equivariant Euler characteristics. Our proof is self-contained, elementary, and relies on the construction of an explicit bijection, in order to perform the $\ell+1\rightarrow \ell$ reduction. We also investigate a conjecture by the first author, regarding the log-concavity of $A(\ell,n,k)$ with respect to $k$. The conjecture generalizes a previous one by Heim and Neuhauser related to the Nekrasov-Okounkov formula.
