Abstract:In this paper, we consider asymptotically flat Riemannian manifolds endowed with a continuous metric and the metric is smooth away from a compact subset with certain conditions. If the metric is Lipschitz and the scalar curvature is nonnegative away from a closed subset with (n - 1)-dimensional Hausdorff measure zero, then we prove that the ADM mass of each end is nonnegative. Furthermore, if the ADM mass of some end is zero, then we prove that the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space. The Hausdorff measure condition is optimal, which confirms a conjecture of Lee in 2013. The proof of the nonnegativity is based on a smoothing argument with some new estimates such as a L-1-scalar curvature approximation estimates. The proof of the rigidity relies on the RCD theory where we show that the manifold has nonnegative Ricci curvature in RCD sense. The idea involving RCD theory in the proof turns out to be much more suitable in the study of the rigidity for continuous metrics. Furthermore, our result generalizes the result of Lee and LeFloch (Commun Math Phys 339(1):99-120, 2015) from spin to non-spin.

Abstract:In this paper, we explore the limit structure of a sequence of Riemannian manifolds with Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature bounded below in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. By extending the techniques established by Cheeger-Cloding for Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below, we prove that each tangent space at a point of the limit space is a metric cone. We also analyze the singular structure of the limit space analogous to a work of Cheeger-Colding-Tian. Our results will be applied to study the limit space of a sequence of Kähler metrics arising from solutions of certain complex Monge-Ampère equations for the existence of Kähler-Ricci solitons on a Fano manifold via the continuity method.

Abstract:In this paper, it is proved that there us no compact stable minimal submanifolds in a compact simply-connected 0.77-pinched Riemannian manifold, so that a conjecture of Lawson-Simons is supported In particular, the conjecture is true for complete L-pinched hypersurfaces in Rm+l with m greater than or equal to 3, Moreover, the instability of a compact domain of a minimal submanifold in delta -pinched manifolds is considered.

Abstract:Based on the $\mu$-bubble method we are able to prove the following version of Riemannian Penrose inequality without horizon: if $g$ is a complete metric on $\mathbb R^3\setminus\{O\}$ with nonnegative scalar curvature, which is asymptotically flat around the infinity of $\mathbb R^3$, then the ADM mass $m$ at the infinity of $\mathbb R^3$ satisfies $m\geq \sqrt{\frac{A_g}{16\pi}}$, where $A_g$ is denoted to be the area infimum of embedded closed surfaces homologous to $\mathbb S^2(1)$ in $\mathbb R^3\setminus\{O\}$. Moreover, the equality holds if and only if there is a strictly outer-minimizing minimal $2$-sphere such that the region outside is isometric to the half Schwarzschild manifold with mass $\sqrt{\frac{A_g}{16\pi}}$.

On the Stability of Riemannian Manifold with Parallel Spinors

Abstract:Inspired by the recent work of Physicists Hertog-Horowitz-Maeda, we prove two stability results for compact Riemannian manifolds with nonzero parallel spinors. Our first result says that Ricci flat metrics which also admits nonzero parallel spinors are stable (in the direction of changes in conformal structures) as the critical points of the total scalar curvature functional. In fact, we show that the Lichnerowicz Laplacian, which governs the second variation, is the square of a twisted Dirac operator. Our second result, which is a local version of the first one, shows that any metrics of positive scalar curvature cannot lie too close to a metric with nonzero parallel spinor. We also prove a rigidity result for special holonomy metrics. In the case of $SU(m)$ holonomy, the rigidity result implies that scalar flat deformations of Calabi-Yau metric must be Calabi-Yau. Finally we explore the connection with positive mass theorem, which presents another approach to proving these stability and rigidity results.

Stability of Euclidean 3-space for the positive mass theorem

Abstract:We show that the Euclidean 3-space $\mathbb{R}^3$ is stable for the Positive Mass Theorem in the following sense. Let $(M_i,g_i)$ be a sequence of complete asymptotically flat $3$-manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature and suppose that the ADM mass $m(g_i)$ of one end of $M_i$ converges to $0$. Then for all $i$, there is a subset $Z_i$ in $M_i$ such that $M_i\setminus Z_i$ contains the given end, the area of the boundary $\partial Z_i$ converges to zero, and $(M_i\setminus Z_i,g_i)$ converges to $\mathbb{R}^3$ in the pointed measured Gromov-Hausdorff topology for any choice of basepoints. This confirms a conjecture of G. Huisken and T. Ilmanen. Additionally, we find an almost quadratic upper bound for the area of $\partial Z_i$ in terms of $m(g_i)$. As an application of the main result, we also prove R. Bartnik's strict positivity conjecture.

On the Isoperimetric Riemannian Penrose Inequality

Abstract:We prove that the Riemannian Penrose Inequality holds for Asymptotically Flat $3$-manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature and connected horizon boundary, provided the optimal decay assumptions are met, which result in the $\mathrm{ADM}$ mass being a well-defined geometric invariant. Our proof builds on a novel interplay between the Hawking mass and a potential-theoretic version of it, recently introduced by Agostiniani, Oronzio and the third named author. As a consequence, we establish the equality between $\mathrm{ADM}$ mass and Huisken's Isoperimetric mass under the above sharp assumptions. Moreover, we establish a Riemannian Penrose Inequality in terms of the Isoperimetric mass on any $3$-manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature, connected horizon boundary, and which supports a well-posed notion of weak Inverse Mean Curvature Flow. In particular, such Isoperimetric Riemannian Penrose Inequality does not require the asymptotic flatness of the manifold. The argument is based on a new asymptotic comparison result involving Huisken's Isoperimetric mass and the Hawking mass.

Stability for a class of three-tori with small negative scalar curvature

Abstract:We define a flexible class of Riemmanian metrics on the three-torus. Then, using Stern's inequality relating scalar curvature to harmonic one-forms, we show that any sequence of metrics in this family whose negative part of the scalar curvature tends to zero in $L^2$ norm has a subsequence which converges to some flat metric on the three-torus in the sense of Dong-Song.

Abstract:Let g be a Riemannian metric for ℝ^d ( d ≧ 3 ) which differs from the Euclidean metric only in a smooth and strictly convex bounded domain M . The lens rigidity problem is concerned with recovering the metric g inside M from the corresponding lens relation on the boundary ∂ M . In this paper, the stability of the lens rigidity problem is investigated for metrics which are a priori close to a given non-trapping metric satisfying the “strong fold-regular” condition. A metric g is called strong fold-regular if for each point x∈ M , there exists a set of geodesics passing through x whose conormal bundle covers T^*_xM . Moreover, these geodesics contain either no conjugate points or only fold conjugate points with a non-degeneracy condition. Examples of strong fold-regular metrics are constructed. Our main result gives the first stability result for the lens rigidity problem in the case of anisotropic metrics which allow conjugate points. The approach is based on the study of the linearized inverse problem of recovering a metric from its induced geodesic flow, which is a weighted geodesic X-ray transform problem for symmetric 2-tensor fields. A key ingredient is to show that the kernel of the X-ray transform on symmetric solenoidal 2-tensor fields is of finite dimension. It remains open whether the kernel space is trivial or not.

Abstract:Let $(M,g_0)$ be a closed oriented hyperbolic manifold of dimension at least $3$. By the volume entropy inequality of G. Besson, G. Courtois and S. Gallot, for any Riemannian metric $g$ on $M$ with same volume as $g_0$, its volume entropy $h(g)$ satisfies $h(g)\geq n-1$ with equality only when $g$ is isometric to $g_0$. We show that the hyperbolic metric $g_0$ is stable in the following sense: if $g_i$ is a sequence of Riemaniann metrics on $M$ of same volume as $g_0$ and if $h(g_i)$ converges to $n-1$, then there are smooth subsets $Z_i\subset M$ such that both $\mathrm{Vol}(Z_i,g_i)$ and $\mathrm{Area}(\partial Z_i,g_i)$ tend to $0$, and $(M\setminus Z_i,g_i)$ converges to $(M,g_0)$ in the measured Gromov-Hausdorff topology. The proof relies on showing that any spherical Plateau solution for $M$ is intrinsically isomorphic to $(M,\frac{(n-1)^2}{4n} g_0)$.

Some stability results of positive mass theorem for uniformly asymptotically flat $3$-manifolds

Abstract:In this paper, we show that for a sequence of orientable complete uniformly asymptotically flat $3$-manifolds $(M_i , g_i)$ with nonnegative scalar curvature and ADM mass $m(g_i)$ tending to zero, by subtracting some open subsets $Z_i$, whose boundary area satisfies $\mathrm{Area}(\partial Z_i) \leq Cm(g_i)^{1/2 - \varepsilon}$, for any base point $p_i \in M_i\setminus Z_i$, $(M_i\setminus Z_i,g_i,p_i)$ converges to the Euclidean space $(\mathbb{R}^3,g_E,0)$ in the $C^0$ modulo negligible volume sense. Moreover, if we assume that the Ricci curvature is uniformly bounded from below, then $(M_i, g_i, p_i)$ converges to $(\mathbb{R}^3,g_E,0)$ in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff topology.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a way of taking , bounds on a dimensional Riemannian metric and transforming that into Hölder bounds for the corresponding distance function. One can think of this new estimate as a type of Morrey inequality for Riemannian manifolds where one thinks of a Riemannian metric as the gradient of the corresponding distance function so that the , bound analogously implies Hölder control on the distance function. This new estimate is then used to state a compactness theorem, another theorem which guarantees convergence to a particular Riemmanian manifold, and a new scalar torus stability result. We expect these results to be useful for proving geometric stability results in the presence of scalar curvature bounds when Gromov–Hausdorff convergence can be achieved.

Abstract:We apply the Riemannian Penrose inequality and the Riemannian positive mass theorem to derive inequalities on the boundary of a class of compact Riemannian 3-manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature. The boundary of such a manifold has a CMC component, i.e., a 2-sphere with positive constant mean curvature; and the rest of the boundary, if nonempty, consists of closed minimal surfaces. A key step in our proof is the construction of a collar extension that is inspired by the method of Mantoulidis-Schoen.

Abstract:We study the weak stability index of an immersion ϕ: M → Sn+1 (1) ⊂ Rn+2 of an n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold. We prove that the weak stability index of a compact hypersurface M with constant scalar curvature in Sn+1 (1), which is not totally umbilical, is greater than or equal to n + 2 if the mean curvature H1 and H3 are constant, and that the equality holds if and only if M is $\smash{S^m(c)\times S^{n-m}(\sqrt{1-c^2})}$. As an application, we show that the weak stability index of an n-dimensional compact hypersurface with constant scalar curvature in Sn+1 (1), which is neither totally umbilical nor a Clifford hypersurface, is greater than or equal to 2n + 4 if the mean curvature H1 and H3 are constant.

Abstract:We show that in the conformally flat case the Penrose inequality is satisfied for the Schwarzschild initial data with a small addition of the axially symmetric traceless exterior curvature. In this class the inequality is saturated only for data related to special sections of the Schwarzschild spacetime.

Abstract:Riemannian Penrose Inequalities are precise geometric statements that imply that the total mass of a zero second fundamental form slice of a spacetime is at least the mass contributed by the black holes, assuming that the spacetime has nonnegative matter density everywhere. In this paper, we remove this last assumption, and prove stronger statements that the total mass is at least the mass contributed by the black holes, plus a contribution coming from the matter density along the slice.

Abstract:We prove that, on any sub-Riemannian manifold endowed with a positive smooth measure, the Bakry-Émery inequality for the corresponding sub-Laplacian implies the existence of enough Killing vector fields on the tangent cone to force the latter to be Euclidean at each point, yielding the failure of the curvature-dimension condition in full generality. Our approach does not apply to non-strictly-positive measures. In fact, we prove that the weighted Grushin plane does not satisfy any curvature-dimension condition, but, nevertheless, does admit an a.e. pointwise version of the Bakry-Émery inequality. As recently observed by Pan and Montgomery, one half of the weighted Grushin plane satisfies the RCD(0,N) condition, yielding a counterexample to gluing theorems in the RCD setting.

Abstract:We study the qualitative stability of two classes of Sobolev inequalities on Riemannian manifolds. In the case of positive Ricci curvature, we prove that an almost extremal function for the sharp Sobolev inequality is close to an extremal function of the round sphere. In the setting of non-negative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth, we show an analogous result in comparison with the extremal functions in the Euclidean Sobolev inequality. As an application, we deduce a stability result for minimizing Yamabe metrics. The arguments rely on a generalized Lions' concentration compactness on varying spaces and on rigidity results of Sobolev inequalities on singular spaces.

Abstract:We study the Penrose inequality and its rigidity for metrics with singular sets. Our result could be viewed as a complement of Theorem 1.1 of Lu and Miao (J. Funct. Anal. 281, 2021) and Theorem 1.2 of Shi, Wang and Yu (Math. Z. 291, 2019), in which they assume the singular set is a hypersurface and assume an additional condition on the mean curvature. As a complement, this paper study the case of singular set of dimensional less than n-1, without any additional conditions.
