Abstract:In the above paper (H. H. Choi, IEEE Trans. Automat. Contr., vol. 46, pp. 504-8, 2001), new methods to obtain upper matrix bounds for a discrete algebraic Riccati equation (DARE) have been established, but the author assumes that the system matrix A is nonsingular and DARE has a positive-definite solution. In this note, some similar results can be obtained when a solution is positive-semidefinite and there are no extra assumption that A is nonsingular. In reply the original author explains some of the underlying assumptions and comments on the computational burdens in the inequality in the commenters' note.

Abstract:Abstract In this comment, an enhancement of issue published in the paper “Coexistence of hidden chaotic attractors in a novel no-equilibrium system” (Nonlinear Dyn, doi: 10.1007/s11071-016-3170-x ) is addressed. We have shown that the proposed novel autonomous chaotic system can be extended to its fractional-order version where hidden attractors as well as other dynamical properties of the new no-equilibrium system can be observed. A created MATLAB function for the new fractional-order no-equilibrium system is also presented.

Abstract:In a recent Brief Report [Phys. Rev. E 79 (2009) 057201], Grassberger re-investigates probability densities of sums of iterates of the logistic map near the critical point and claims that his simulation results are inconsistent with previous results obtained by us [U. Tirnakli et al., Phys. Rev. E 75 (2007) 040106(R) and Phys Rev. E 79 (2009) 056209]. In this comment we point out several errors in Grassberger's paper. We clarify that Grassberger's numerical simulations were mainly performed in a parameter region that was explicitly excluded in our 2009 paper and that his number of iterations is insufficient for the region chosen. We also show that, contrary to what is claimed by the author, (i) Levy distributions are irrelevant for this problem, and that (ii) the probability distributions of sums that focus on transients are unlikely to be universal.

Abstract:We comment on a work by T. Liverpool (Phys. Rev. E 101 (2020)). We show that a theorem stated in that work is not correct. While this is inconsequential to the bulk of the work (and holds asymptotically as we show), it is instructive to highlight the importance of phase space compression in active systems with generalized dynamics.

Abstract:We study the uniform ergodicity property for non-invertible topological and measure-preserving dynamical systems. It is shown that for topological dynamical systems uniform ergodicity is equivalent to eventually periodicity and that for measure preserving systems it is equivalent to periodicity. To obtain our results, we prove a result on the long-term behavior of lattice homomorphisms that have $1$ isolated in its spectrum.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a new functional inequality of Hardy–Littlewood type for generalized rearrangements of functions. We then show how this inequality provides quantitative stability results of steady states to evolution systems that essentially preserve the rearrangements and some suitable energy functional, under minimal regularity assumptions on the perturbations. In particular, this inequality yields a quantitative stability result of a large class of steady state solutions to the Vlasov–Poisson systems, and more precisely we derive a quantitative control of the L1 norm of the perturbation by the relative Hamiltonian (the energy functional) and rearrangements. A general non linear stability result has been obtained by Lemou et al. (Invent Math 187:145–194, 2012) in the gravitational context, however the proof relied in a crucial way on compactness arguments which by construction provides no quantitative control of the perturbation. Our functional inequality is also applied to the context of 2D-Euler systems and also provides quantitative stability results of a large class of steady-states to this system in a natural energy space.

Abstract:In this paper we study the ergodic theory of a class of symbolic dynamical systems $(\O, T, \mu)$ where $T:{\O}\to \O$ the left shift transformation on $\O=\prod_0^\infty\{0,1\}$ and $\mu$ is a $\s$-finite $T$-invariant measure having the property that one can find a real number $d$ so that $\mu(\tau^d)=\infty$ but $\mu(\tau^{d-\epsilon})<\infty$ for all $\epsilon >0$, where $\tau$ is the first passage time function in the reference state 1. In particular we shall consider invariant measures $\mu$ arising from a potential $V$ which is uniformly continuous but not of summable variation. If $d>0$ then $\mu$ can be normalized to give the unique non-atomic equilibrium probability measure of $V$ for which we compute the (asymptotically) exact mixing rate, of order $n^{-d}$. We also establish the weak-Bernoulli property and a polynomial cluster property (decay of correlations) for observables of polynomial variation. If instead $d\leq 0$ then $\mu$ is an infinite measure with scaling rate of order $n^d$. Moreover, the analytic properties of the weighted dynamical zeta function and those of the Fourier transform of correlation functions are shown to be related to one another via the spectral properties of an operator-valued power series which naturally arises from a standard inducing procedure. A detailed control of the singular behaviour of these functions in the vicinity of their non-polar singularity at $z=1$ is achieved through an approximation scheme which uses generating functions of a suitable renewal process. In the perspective of differentiable dynamics, these are statements about the unique absolutely continuous invariant measure of a class of piecewise smooth interval maps with an indifferent fixed point.

Abstract:In this Letter, we give a comment on [F. Yu, H. Zhang, Phys. Lett. A 353 (2006) 326]. We first show that there are many mistakes in the paper. The obtained 2+1 non-isospectral discrete integrable systems are not true. And then we reconstruct a 2+1 non-isospectral discrete integrable system by using the Lax technique, which is a generalization of the Blaszak–Marciniak lattice hierarchy.

Abstract:A recent paper by R. Muolo, T. Carletti, J. P. Gleeson, and M. Asllani [Entropy 23, 36 (2021)] presents a mainly numerical study on the role of non-normality in the synchronization of coupled periodic oscillators, deriving apparent contradictions with the existing literature. Here, we show that their conclusions are artifactual due to a misinterpretation of the master stability function formalism and confirm that the existing literature is correct. We also point to a broader existing literature in which research considered in this paper was correctly addressed numerically, analytically, and experimentally.

Abstract:In the comment by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://T.Dauxois" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> et al.,(<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="cond-mat/0605445" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/0605445">cond-mat/0605445</a>), the authors question our application of the nonextensive statistical mechanics proposed by Tsallis, to explain the anomalous dynamics of the Hamiltonian Mean Field (HMF) model. More specifically they claim that the explanation of the metastability found in the out-of-equilibrium dynamics is only a fitting procedure and is also in contrast with a previous application. This criticism mostly relies on recent studies based on the Vlasov approach, where the authors claim to explain the anomalous behaviour of the HMF model in terms of a standard formalism. In order to reply to this comment we want to stress a few numerical facts and conclude with some final considerations. A recent paper by P-H. Chavanis (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="cond-mat/0604234" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/0604234">cond-mat/0604234</a>) is also important to clarify the question here debated.

Abstract:In this paper, we define some qualitative properties of non-autonomous discrete dynamical systems such as orbit shift continuum-wise expansivity, orbit shift persistence and orbit shift α -persistence. Then we discuss the relation between these notions and give necessary examples. Moreover, we prove that every continuum-wise expansive non-autonomous discrete system on a compact metric space is orbit shift continuum-wise expansive.

Abstract:In the paper "Uniformity of Mordell-Lang" by Vesselin Dimitrov, Philipp Habegger and Ziyang Gao (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2001.10276" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2001.10276">arXiv:2001.10276</a>), they use Silverman-Tate's Height Inequality and they give a proof of the same which makes use of Cartier divisors and hence drops the flatness assumption of structure morphisms of compactified abelian schemes. However, their proof makes use of Hironaka's theorem on resolution of singularities which is unknown for fields of positive characteristic. We try to slightly modify their ideas, use blow-ups in place of Hironaka's theorem to make the proof effective for any fields with product formula where heights can be defined and any normal quasi-projective variety as a base. We work in the more general set up of dynamical systems. As an application we prove certain variant of Silverman's Specialization Theorem with restricted hypotheses in higher dimensional bases.

Remarks on algebraic dynamics in positive characteristic

Abstract:In this paper, we study arithmetic dynamics in arbitrary characteristic, in particular in positive characteristic. We generalise some basic facts on arithmetic degree and canonical height in positive characteristic. As applications, we prove the dynamical Mordell-Lang conjecture for automorphisms of projective surfaces of positive entropy, the Zariski dense orbit conjecture for automorphisms of projective surfaces and for endomorphisms of projective varieties with large first dynamical degree. We also study ergodic theory for constructible topology. For example, we prove the equidistribution of backward orbits for finite flat endomorphisms with large topological degree. As applications, we give a simple proof for weak dynamical Mordell-Lang and prove a counting result for backward orbits without multiplicities. This gives some applications for equidistributions on Berkovich spaces.
