Abstract:We develop the theory of derived differential geometry in terms of bundles of curved $L_\infty[1]$-algebras, i.e. dg manifolds of positive amplitudes. We prove the category of derived manifolds is a category of fibrant objects. Therefore, we can make sense of "homotopy fibered product" and "derived intersection" of submaifolds in a smooth manifold in the homotopy category of derived manifolds. We construct a factorization of the diagonal using path spaces. First we construct an infinite-dimensional factorization using actual path spaces motivated by the AKSZ construction, then we cut down to finite dimensions using the Fiorenza-Manetti method. The main ingredient is the homotopy transfer theorem for curved $L_\infty[1]$-algebras. We also prove the inverse function theorem for derived manifolds, and investigate the relationship between weak equivalence and quasi-isomorphism for derived manifolds.

Smooth singular complexes and diffeological principal bundles

Abstract:In previous papers, we used the standard simplices $\Delta^p$ $(p\ge 0)$ endowed with diffeologies having several good properties to introduce the singular complex $S^\dcal(X)$ of a diffeological space $X$. On the other hand, Hector and Christensen-Wu used the standard simplices $\Delta^p_{\rm sub}$ $(p\ge 0)$ endowed with the sub-diffeology of $\rbb^{p+1}$ and the standard affine $p$-spaces $\abb^p$ $(p\ge 0)$ to introduce the singular complexes $S^\dcal_{\rm sub}(X)$ and $S^\dcal_{\rm aff}(X)$, respectively, of a diffeological space $X$. In this paper, we prove that $S^\dcal(X)$ is a fibrant approximation both of $S^\dcal_{\rm sub}(X)$ and $S^\dcal_{\rm aff}(X)$. This result easily implies that the homotopy groups of $S^\dcal_{\rm sub}(X)$ and $S^\dcal_{\rm aff}(X)$ are isomorphic to the smooth homotopy groups of $X$, proving a conjecture of Christensen and Wu. Further, we characterize diffeological principal bundles (i.e., principal bundles in the sense of Iglesias-Zemmour) using the singular functor $S^\dcal_{\rm aff}$. By using these results, we extend characteristic classes for $\dcal$-numerable principal bundles to characteristic classes for diffeological principal bundles.

6-Functor Formalisms and Smooth Representations

Abstract:The purpose of this article is threefold: Firstly, we propose some enhancements to the existing definition of 6-functor formalisms. Secondly, we systematically study the category of kernels, which is a certain 2-category attached to every 6-functor formalism. It provides powerful new insights into the internal structure of the 6-functor formalism and allows to abstractly define important finiteness conditions, recovering well-known examples from the literature. Finally, we apply our methods to the theory of smooth representations of $p$-adic Lie groups and, as an application, construct a canonical anti-involution on derived Hecke algebras generalizing results of Schneider--Sorensen. In an appendix we provide the necessary background on $\infty$-categories, higher algebra, enriched $\infty$-categories and $(\infty,2)$-categories. Among others we prove several new results on adjunctions in an $(\infty,2)$-category and in particular show that passing to the adjoint morphism is a functorial operation.

Non-additive derived functors via chain resolutions

Abstract:Let $F\colon \mathcal{C} \to \mathcal{E}$ be a functor from a category $\mathcal{C}$ to a homological (Borceux-Bourn) or semi-abelian (Janelidze-Márki-Tholen) category $\mathcal{E}$. We investigate conditions under which the homology of an object $X$ in $\mathcal{C}$ with coefficients in the functor $F$, defined via projective resolutions in $\mathcal{C}$, remains independent of the chosen resolution. Consequently, the left derived functors of $F$ can be constructed analogously to the classical abelian case. Our approach extends the concept of chain homotopy to a non-additive setting using the technique of imaginary morphisms. Specifically, we utilize the approximate subtractions of Bourn-Janelidze, originally introduced in the context of subtractive categories. This method is applicable when $\mathcal{C}$ is a pointed regular category with finite coproducts and enough projectives, provided these projectives are closed under protosplit subobjects, a new condition introduced in this article and naturally satisfied in the abelian context. We further assume that the functor $F$ meets certain exactness conditions: for instance, it may be protoadditive and preserve proper morphisms and binary coproducts - conditions that amount to additivity when $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{E}$ are abelian categories. Within this framework, we develop a basic theory of derived functors, compare it with the simplicial approach, and provide several examples.

Abstract:In group representations several inductions given by tensoring with appropriate bimodules may be reconstructed via homology of $G$-posets with $G$-equivariant coefficients. For this purpose, we need various local categories of a finite group $G$, which afford the coefficients. Consequently, the functors among local categories give rise to the homology constructions naturally, and may be used to reformulate some existing results, as well as to deduce new statements.

Abstract:We prove by induction on dimension the Hodge conjecture for smooth complex projective varieties. Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective variety. Then $X$ is birational to a possibly singular projective hypersurface, hence to a smooth projective variety $E_0$ which is a component of a normal crossing divisor $E=\cup_{i=0}^rE_i\subset Y$ which is the singular fiber of a pencil $f:Y\to\mathbb A^1$ of smooth projective hypersurfaces. Using the smooth hypersurface case by a previous result of the autor, the nearby cycle functor on mixed Hodge module with rational de Rham factor, and the induction hypothesis, we prove that an Hodge class of $E_0$ is absolute Hodge, more precisely the locus of Hodge classes inside the algebraic vector bundle given the De Rham cohomology the rational deformation of $E_0$ is defined over $\mathbb Q$. By another previous result of the autor, we get the Hodge conjecture for $E_0$. By the induction hypothesis we also have the Hodge conjecture for $X$.

Abstract:Let be an inner form of a general linear group over a non-Archimedean local field. We fix an arbitrary irreducible representation of . Building on the work of Lapid-Mínguez on the irreducibility of parabolic inductions, we show how to define a full subcategory of the category of smooth representations of some , on which the parabolic induction functor is fully-faithful. A key ingredient of our proof for the fully-faithfulness is constructions of indecomposable representations of length 2. Such result for a special situation has been previously applied in proving the local non-tempered Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for non-Archimedean general linear groups. In this article, we apply the fully-faithful result to prove a certain big derivative arising from Jacquet functor satisfies the property that its socle is irreducible and has multiplicity one in the Jordan-Hölder sequence of the big derivative.

Derived $C^{\infty}$-Geometry I: Foundations

Abstract:This work is the first in a series laying the foundations of derived geometry in the $C^{\infty}$ setting, and providing tools for the construction and study of moduli spaces of solutions of Partial Differential Equations that arise in differential geometry and mathematical physics. To advertise the advantages of such a theory, we start with a detailed introduction to derived $C^{\infty}$-geometry in the context of symplectic topology and compare and contrast with Kuranishi space theory. In the body of this work, we avail ourselves of Lurie's extensive work on abstract structured spaces to define $\infty$-categories of derived $C^{\infty}$-rings and $C^{\infty}$-schemes and derived $C^{\infty}$-rings and $C^{\infty}$-schemes with corners via a universal property in a suitable $(\infty,2)$-category of $\infty$-categories with respect to the ordinary categories of manifolds and manifolds with corners (with morphisms the $b$-maps of Melrose in the latter case), and prove many basic structural features about them. Along the way, we establish some derived flatness results for derived $C^{\infty}$-rings of independent interest.

Abstract:We study admissible subcategories of the derived categories of smooth noncommutative curves as classified by Reiten-van den Bergh. We prove phantom subcategories do not exist in these derived categories and we obtain a complete classification of the admissible subcategories of the bounded derived category of representations of an acyclic quiver.

Projective smoothing of varieties with simple normal crossings

Abstract:In this article, we introduce a new approach to show the existence and smoothing of simple normal crossing varieties in a given projective space. Our approach relates the above to the existence of nowhere reduced schemes called ribbons and their smoothings via deformation theory of morphisms. As a consequence, we prove results on the existence and smoothing of snc subvarieties $V \subset \mathbb{P}^N$, with two irreducible components, each of which are Fano varieties of dimension $n>2$, embedded inside $\mathbb{P}^{N}$ for effective values of $N$, by the complete linear series of a line bundle $H$. The general fibers of the resulting one parameter families are either smooth Fano, Calabi-Yau or varieties of general type, depending on the positivity of the canonical divisor of their intersections. An interesting consequence of projective smoothing is that it automatically gives a smoothing of the semi-log-canonical (slc) pair $(V, \Delta)$, where $\Delta = cH$, $c < 1$, is a rational multiple of a general hyperplane section of $H$. For threefolds, we are able to give explicit descriptions of the smoothable snc subvarieties due to the classification results of Iskovskikh-Mori-Mukai. In particular, we show the existence of unions V = $Y_1 \bigcup_D Y_2 \subset \mathbb{P}^N$, where $Y_i$'s are smooth anticanonically (resp. bi-anticanonically) embedded Fano threefolds, intersecting along $D$, where $D$ is either a del-Pezzo surface or a $K3$ surface (resp. a smooth surface with ample canonical bundle) and their smoothing in $\mathbb{P}^N$ to smooth Fano or Calabi-Yau threefolds (resp. to threefolds with ample canonical bundle) for various values of $N$ between $10$ and $163$. In cases when the general fiber is a smooth Fano or Calabi-Yau threefold, one can choose $c$ such that $(V, \Delta)$ is a Calabi-Yau pair while in all cases $c$ can be chosen so that $(V, \Delta)$ is a stable pair.

Generic character sheaves on parahoric subgroups

Abstract:We prove that on a "generic locus" of the equivariant derived category of constructible sheaves, positive-depth parabolic induction is a $t$-exact equivalence of categories. Iterating this with respect to sequences of generic data allows us to take as input an arbitrary character sheaf on a connected algebraic group and output a family of positive-depth character sheaves on parahoric group schemes. In the simplest interesting setting, our construction produces a simple perverse sheaf associated to a sufficiently nontrivial multiplicative local system on a torus, resolving a conjecture of Lusztig. We prove, under a mild condition on $q$, that this realizes the character of the representation arising from the associated parahoric Deligne--Lusztig induction.

Parabolic induction in the homotopy category of pro-$p$ Iwahori-Hecke modules

Abstract:Let $G$ be the group of rational points of a split connected reductive group over a non-archimedean local field of residue characteristic $p$, and let $\mathcal{H}$ denote the pro-$p$ Iwahori-Hecke algebra of $G$ over a field of characteristic $p$. We study the parabolic induction functor for $\mathcal{H}$-modules in terms of the Gorenstein projective model structures introduced by Hovey. Let $\text{Ho}(\mathcal{H})$ denote the associated homotopy category of this model structure. We show that $\text{Ho}(\mathcal{H})$ and its thick subcategory generated by the essential images of finitely many parabolic induction functors are related via a recollement of triangulated categories. We then investigate the isomorphism classes of simple $\mathcal{H}$-modules in $\text{Ho}(\mathcal{H})$ and give a complete classification for simple supersingulars when $G=\mathrm{GL}_n$.

A note on generation and descent for derived categories of noncommutative schemes

Abstract:This work demonstrates classical generation is preserved by the derived pushforward along the canonical morphism of a noncommutative scheme to its underlying scheme. There are intriguing examples illustrating this phenomenon, particularly from noncommutative resolutions, categorical resolutions, and homological projective duality. Additionally, we establish that the Krull dimension of a variety over a field is a lower bound for the Rouquier dimension of the bounded derived category associated with a noncommutative scheme on it. This is an extension of a classical result of Rouquier to the noncommutative context.

Categorifying induction formulae via divergent series

Abstract:We show how to get explicit induction formulae for finite group representations, and more generally for rational Green functors, by summing a divergent series over Dwyer's subgroup and centralizer decomposition spaces. This results in formulae with rational coefficients. The former space yields a well-known induction formula, the latter yields a new one. As essentially immediate corollaries of the existing literature, we get similar formulae in group cohomology and stable splittings of classifying spaces.

Abstract:It is well-known that DG-enhancements of the unbounded derived category of quasi-coherent sheaves on a scheme X are all equivalent to each other. Here we present an explicit model which leads to applications in deformation theory. In particular, we shall describe three models for derived endomorphisms of a quasi-coherent sheaf on a finite-dimensional Noetherian separated scheme (even if does not admit a locally free resolution). Moreover, these complexes are endowed with DG-Lie algebra structures, which we prove to control infinitesimal deformations of .

A Categorical Approach to Möbius Inversion via Derived Functors

Abstract:We develop a cohomological approach to Möbius inversion using derived functors in the enriched categorical setting. For a poset $P$ and a closed symmetric monoidal abelian category $\mathcal{C}$, we define Möbius cohomology as the derived functors of an enriched hom functor on the category of $P$-modules. We prove that the Euler characteristic of our cohomology theory recovers the classical Möbius inversion, providing a natural categorification. As a key application, we prove a categorical version of Rota's Galois Connection. Our approach unifies classical ideas from combinatorics with homological algebra.
