Abstract:We give a complete classification of the Kronecker (i.e. direct) product graphs that are planar and $3$-connected (i.e. $3$-polytopal). They are all of the form \[H\wedge K_2,\] where $H$ is a $2$-connected graph, possibly non-planar, and satisfying specific properties that we will describe.

Abstract:We investigate several properties of Kronecker (direct, tensor) products of graphs that are planar and $3$-connected (polyhedral, $3$-polytopal). This class of graphs was recently characterised and constructed by the second author [15]. Our main result is that cancellation holds for the Kronecker product of graphs when the product is planar and $3$-connected (it is known that Kronecker cancellation may fail in general). Equivalently, polyhedral graphs are Kronecker products in at most one way. This is a special case of the deep and interesting question, open in general, of Kronecker product cancellation for simple graphs: when does $A\wedge C\simeq B\wedge C$ imply $A\simeq B$? We complete our investigation on simultaneous products by characterising and constructing the planar graphs that are Cartesian products in two distinct ways, and the planar, $3$-connected graphs that are both Kronecker and Cartesian products. The other type of results we obtain are in extremal graph theory. We classify the polyhedral Kronecker products that are either face-regular or vertex-regular graphs. The face-regular ones are certain quadrangulations of the sphere, while the vertex-regular ones are certain cubic graphs (duals of maximal planar graphs). We also characterise, and iteratively construct, the face-regular subclass of graphs minimising the number of vertices of degree $3$.

In this paper, we prove that κ(G×K2)=min{2κ(G),min{|X|+2|Y|}}, where the second minimum is taken over all disjoint sets X,Y⊆V(G) satisfying (1) G−(X∪Y) has a bipartite component C, and (2) G[V(C)∪{x}] is also bipartite for any x∈X.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a tree with $n$ vertices and $L(X)$ be its line graph. In this work, we completely characterize the trees for which the algebraic connectivity of $L(X)\times K_m$ is equal to $m-1$, where $\times$ denotes the Kronecker product. We provide a few necessary and sufficient conditions for $L(X)\times K_m$ to be Laplacian integral. The algebraic connectivity of $L(X)\times K_m$, where $X$ is a tree of diameter $4$ and $k$-book graph is discussed.

Abstract:The thickness of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of planar subgraphs whose union is $G$. In this paper, we present sharp lower and upper bounds for the thickness of the Kronecker product $G\times H$ of two graphs $G$ and $H$. We also give the exact thickness numbers for the Kronecker product graphs $K_n\times K_2$, $K_{m,n}\times K_2$ and $K_{n,n,n}\times K_2$.

Abstract:We classify and construct all line graphs that are $3$-polytopes (planar and $3$-connected). Apart from a few special cases, they are all obtained starting from the medial graphs of cubic (i.e., $3$-regular) $3$-polytopes, by applying two types of graph transformations. This is similar to the generation of other subclasses of $3$-polytopes.

Abstract:Let G"1 and G"2 be two graphs. The Kronecker productG"1xG"2 has vertex set V(G"1xG"2)=V(G"1)xV(G"2) and edge set E(G"1xG"2)={(u"1,v"1)(u"2,v"2):u"1u"2@?E(G"1) and v"1v"2@?E(G"2)}. A graph G is super connected, or simply super-@k, if every minimum separating set is the neighbors of a vertex of G, that is, every minimum separating set isolates a vertex. In this paper we show that if G is a graph with @k(G)=@d(G) and K"n(n=3) a complete graph on n vertices, except that G is a complete bipartite graph K"m","m (m=1) and K"n=K"3, then GxK"n is super-@k, where @k(G) and @d(G) are the connectivity and the minimum degree of G, respectively.

Abstract:Let G1 and G2 be two connected graphs.The Kronecker product G1 × G2 is the graph with vertex set V(G1 × G2) = V(G1) × V(G2) and the edge set E(G1 × G2) = {(u1,v1)(u2,v2) : u1 u2 ∈ E(G1),v1v2 ∈ E(G2)}.In this note,we show that G × Kn(n ≥ 4) is super-κ if and only if κ(G)n > δ(G)(n 1),where G is any connected graph and Kn is the complete of n vertices.Furthermore,we show that for any connected graph G with at least three vertices,if κ(G) = δ(G) then G × Kn is super-κ for n ≥ 3.This result strengthens the known results of Guo et al..

Abstract:We offer a new structural basis for the theory of 3-connected graphs, providing a unique decomposition of every such graph into parts that are either quasi 4-connected, wheels, or thickened $K_{3,m}$'s. Our construction is explicit, canonical, and has the following applications: we obtain a new theorem characterising all Cayley graphs as either essentially 4-connected, cycles, or complete graphs on at most four vertices, and we provide an automatic proof of Tutte's wheel theorem.

Abstract:We show that minimally 3-rigid block-and-hole graphs, with one block or one hole, are characterised as those which are constructible from $K_3$ by vertex splitting, and also, as those having associated looped face graphs which are $(3,0)$-tight. This latter property can be verified in polynomial time by a form of pebble game algorithm. We also indicate connections to the rigidity properties of polyhedral surfaces known as origami and to graph rigidity in $\ell_p^3$ for $p\not=2$.

Abstract:We prove that every planar graph is contained in $H_1\boxtimes H_2\boxtimes K_2$ for some graphs $H_1$ and $H_2$ both with treewidth 2. This resolves a question of Liu, Norin and Wood [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2410.20333" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2410.20333">arXiv:2410.20333</a>]. We also show this result is best possible: for any $c \in \mathbb{N}$, there is a planar graph $G$ such that for any tree $T$ and graph $H$ with $\text{tw}(H) \leq 2$, $G$ is not contained in $H \boxtimes T \boxtimes K_c$.

Properties of uniformly $3$-connected graphs

Abstract:A graph on at least ${k+1}$ vertices is uniformly $k$-connected if each pair of its vertices is connected by $k$ and not more than $k$ independent paths. We reinvestigate a recent constructive characterization of uniformly $3$-connected graphs and obtain a more detailed result that relates the number of vertices to the operations involved in constructing a respective uniformly $3$-connected graph. Furthermore, we investigate how crossing numbers and treewidths behave under the mentioned constructions. We demonstrate how these results can be utilized to study the structure and properties of uniformly $3$-connected graphs with minimum number of vertices of minimum degree.

Abstract:A $3$-polytope is a $3$-connected, planar graph. It is called unigraphic if it does not share its vertex degree sequence with any other $3$-polytope, up to graph isomorphism. The classification of unigraphic $3$-polytopes appears to be a difficult problem. In this paper we prove that, apart from pyramids, all unigraphic $3$-polytopes have no $n$-gonal faces for $n\geq 10$. Our method involves defining several planar graph transformations on a given $3$-polytope containing an $n$-gonal face with $n\geq 10$. The delicate part is to prove that, for every such $3$-polytope, at least one of these transformations both preserves $3$-connectivity, and is not an isomorphism.

Line configurations and K3 surfaces

Abstract:We study the realization spaces of $10_3$ line configurations. Answering a question posed by Sturmfels in 1991, we use elliptic surface techniques to show that realizations over $\mathbb{Q}$ are dense in those over $\mathbb{R}$ for all $10_3$ configurations. We find that for exactly four of the ten configurations, the realization space admits a compactification by a K3 surface. We show that these have Picard number 20 and compute their discriminants. Finally, we use geometric invariant theory to give an elegant interpretation of these K3 surfaces as moduli spaces.

Abstract:A geometric graph \G is a simple graph drawn in the plane, on points in general position, with straight-line edges. We call \G a geometric realization of the underlying abstract graph G. A geometric homomorphism from \G to \H is a vertex map that preserves adjacencies and crossings (but not necessarily non-adjacencies or non-crossings). Geometric homomorphisms can be used to define a partial order on the set of isomorphism classes of geometric realizations of an abstract graph G. In this paper, the homomorphism poset of K_{3,3} is determined.
Powers of planar graphs, product structure, and blocking partitions

Abstract:We prove that the $k$-power of any planar graph $G$ is contained in $H\boxtimes P\boxtimes K_{f(\Delta(G),k)}$ for some graph $H$ with bounded treewidth, some path $P$, and some function $f$. This resolves an open problem of Ossona de Mendez. In fact, we prove a more general result in terms of shallow minors that implies similar results for many `beyond planar' graph classes, without dependence on $\Delta(G)$. For example, we prove that every $k$-planar graph is contained in $H\boxtimes P\boxtimes K_{f(k)}$ for some graph $H$ with bounded treewidth and some path $P$, and some function $f$. This resolves an open problem of Dujmović, Morin and Wood. We generalise all these results for graphs of bounded Euler genus, still with an absolute bound on the treewidth. At the heart of our proof is the following new concept of independent interest. An $\ell$-blocking partition of a graph $G$ is a partition of $V(G)$ into connected sets such that every path of length greater than $\ell$ in $G$ contains at least two vertices in one part. We prove that for some constant $\ell \ge 1$ every graph of Euler genus $g$ has an $\ell$-blocking partition with parts of size bounded by a function of $\Delta(G)$ and $g$. Motivated by this result, we study blocking partitions in their own right. We show that every graph $G$ has a $2$-blocking partition with parts of size bounded by a function of $\Delta(G)$ and $\textrm{tw}(G)$. On the other hand, we show that 4-regular graphs do not have $\ell$-blocking partitions with bounded size parts.

A gluing construction of K3 surfaces

Abstract:We develop a new method for constructing K3 surfaces. We construct such a K3 surface $X$ by patching two open complex surfaces obtained as the complements of tubular neighborhoods of elliptic curves embedded in blow-ups of the projective planes at general nine points. Our construction has $19$ complex dimensional degrees of freedom. For general parameters, the K3 surface $X$ is neither Kummer nor projective. By the argument based on the concrete computation of the period map, we also investigate which points in the period domain correspond to K3 surfaces obtained by such construction.

T-Type Digraphs Via Kronecker Canonical Form

Abstract:In this paper, the authors aim to study Kronecker canonical form theory for T-type digraphs, which can be used to construct trees by tensor product with some directed paths. Firstly, the authors show that some bicyclic digraphs and multicyclic digraphs are T-type digraphs. Secondly, the authors provide a characterization for T-type digraphs by their Kronecker canonical form. Moreover, the authors present an algorithm for computing the Kronecker canonical form, which can be used to determine whether or not a digraph is a T-type digraph. Lastly, for a class of T-type digraphs, the authors show that their incidence matrix pair can be transformed into Kronecker canonical form using unimodular matrices. The authors also present an algorithm related to finding such unimodular matrices.
