Abstract:In this paper, we study rigidity problems between Lyapunov exponents along periodic orbits and geometric structures. More specifically, we prove that for a surface M without focal points, if the value of the Lyapunov exponents is constant over all periodic orbits, then $M$ is the flat 2-torus or a surface of constant negative curvature. We obtain the same result for the case of Anosov geodesic flow for surface, which generalizes Butler's result in dimension two. Using completely different techniques, we also prove an extension of Butler's result to the finite volume case, where the value of the Lyapunov exponents along all periodic orbits is constant, being the maximum or minimum possible.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that if the geodesic flow of a complete manifold without conjugate points with sectional curvatures bounded below by is of Anosov type, then the constant of contraction of the flow is . Moreover, if M has a finite volume, the equality holds if and only if the sectional curvature is constant. We also apply this result to get a certain rigidity for bi-Lipschitz, and consequently, for -conjugacy between two geodesic flows.

Abstract:Let (M,g) be a complete Riemannian manifold without focal points and curvature bounded below. We prove that when the average of the sectional curvature in tangent planes along geodesics is negative and uniformly away from zero, then the geodesic flow is of Anosov type. We use this result to construct a non-compact manifold with non-positive curvature, without compact quotient and geodesic flow of Anosov type.

Abstract:Let $(M,g)$ be a compact connected $C^{\infty}$ surface without conjugate points of genus greater than one. We show that set of geodesics without strips forms a dense set of orbits in the unit tangent bundle. This fact was known assuming no focal points as a consequence of a result of Coudène and Shapira. They showed that flat strips are periodic and hence form a set of zero measure in the unit tangent bundle.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to prove that, for every $n\in \mathbb N$, there exists a closed hyperbolic $3$-manifold $M$ which carries at least $n$ non-$\mathbb R$-covered Anosov flows, that are pairwise non-orbitally equivalent. Due to a recent result by Fenley, such Anosov flows are quasi-geodesic. Hence, we get the existence of hyperbolic $3$-manifolds carrying many pairwise non-orbitally equivalent quasi-geodesic Anosov flows. Based on the orbit space theory of Anosov flows developed by Fenley and Barbot, we completely studied the connected components of edge-adjacent lozenges, say, clusters in the orbit spaces of the Anosov flows in construction. The number of the lozenges of a cluster and a type of orientations on the clusters together are used as dynamical invariants to prove that the flows we construct are not orbitally equivalent. We believe that those dynamical invariants could be used in a much wider context.

Abstract:The periodic orbit conjecture states that, on closed manifolds, the set of lengths of the orbits of a non-vanishing vector field all whose orbits are closed admits an upper bound. This conjecture is known to be false in general due to a counterexample by Sullivan. However, it is satisfied under the geometric condition of being geodesible. In this work, we use the recent characterization of Eulerisable flows (or more generally flows admitting a strongly adapted one-form) to prove that the conjecture remains true for this larger class of vector fields.

Abstract:In [Orbit equivalences of pseudo-Anosov flows, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2211.10505" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2211.10505">arXiv:2211.10505</a>], it was proved that transitive pseudo-Anosov flows on any closed 3-manifold are determined up to orbit equivalence by the set of free homotopy classes represented by periodic orbits, provided their orbit space does not contain a feature called a "tree of scalloped regions." In this article we describe what happens in these exceptional cases: we show what topological features in the manifold correspond to trees of scalloped regions, completely classify the flows which do have the same free homotopy data, and construct explicit examples of flows with the same free homotopy data that are not orbit equivalent.

Generic density of periodic orbits of area-preserving maps on punctured surfaces

Abstract:We study the dynamics of area-preserving maps in a non-compact setting. We show that the $C^{\infty}$-closing lemma holds for area-preserving diffeomorphisms on a closed surface with finitely many points removed. As a corollary, a $C^{\infty}$-generic area-preserving diffeomorphism on such a surface has a dense set of periodic points. For area-preserving maps on a finitely punctured 2-sphere, we establish a more quantitative result regarding the equidistribution of periodic orbits. The proof of this result involves a PFH Weyl law for rational area-preserving homeomorphisms, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:We revisit the classical framework developed by Brin, Pesin and others to study ergodicity and mixing properties of isometric extensions of volume-preserving Anosov flows, using the microlocal framework developed in the theory of Pollicott-Ruelle resonances. The approach developed in the present note is reinvested in the companion paper [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2111.14811" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.14811">arXiv:2111.14811</a>] in order to show ergodicity of the frame flow on negatively-curved Riemannian manifolds under nearly $1/4$-pinched curvature assumption (resp. nearly $1/2$-pinched) in dimension $4$ and $4\ell+2, \ell > 0$ (resp. dimension $4\ell, \ell > 0$).

Abstract:Let $X_1^t$ and $X_2^t$ be volume preserving Anosov flows on a 3-dimensional manifold $M$. We prove that if $X_1^t$ and $X_2^t$ are $C^0$ conjugate then the conjugacy is, in fact, smooth, unless $M$ is a mapping torus of an Anosov automorphism of $\mathbb T^2$ and both flows are constant roof suspension flows. We deduce several applications. Among them is a new result on rigidity of Anosov diffeorphisms on $\mathbb T^2$ and a new "weighted" marked length spectrum rigidity result for surfaces of negative curvature.

Abstract:In this note, we consider the stability of geodesics on volume-preserving diffeomorphism groups with one-side invariant metric. We showed that for non-Beltrami fields on a three-dimensional compact manifold, there does not exist Eulerian stable flow which is Lagrangian exponential unstable. We noticed that a stationary flow corresponding to the KdV equation can be Eulerian stable while the corresponding motion of the fluid is at most exponentially unstable.

Abstract:Motivated by the well-known phase-space portrait of the nonlinear pendulum, the purpose of this paper is to obtain convergence rates in the ergodic theorem for flows in the plane that have arbitrarily slow trajectories. Considering bounded periodic trajectories near the heteroclinic orbits, it is shown that despite lacking a spectral gap, there exists a functional space (which is a strict subset of $L^2$) on which time averages converge uniformly to spatial averages (with an explicit rate). The main ingredient of the proof is an estimate of the density of the spectrum of the generator of the flow near zero.

Abstract:In this paper we deal with the existence of periodic orbits of geodesible vector fields on closed 3-manifolds. A vector field is geodesible if there exists a Riemannian metric on the ambient manifold making its orbits geodesics. In particular, Reeb vector fields and vector fields that admit a global section are geodesible. We will classify the closed 3-manifolds that admit aperiodic volume preserving real analytic geodesible vector fields, and prove the existence of periodic orbits for real analytic geodesible vector fields (not volume preserving), when the 3-manifold is not a torus bundle over the circle. We will also prove the existence of periodic orbits of C2 geodesible vector fields in some closed 3-manifolds.
