Abstract:In this paper, we give a full classification of the unitary dual of $G = U(n,2)$ for $n \geq 3$. As a consequence, we determine which of these representations are weakly fair $A_{\mathfrak{q}}(\lambda)$-modules or special unipotent representations, resulting in a verification of a conjecture of Trapa and Vogan for $G$.

Abstract:In this paper, towards the unitary dual problem for classical groups, we propose a refinement of a conjecture of M. Tadić: A representation of good parity is unitary if and only if it is of Arthur type; and a conjectural description of the whole unitary dual. We verify them for representations of corank at most $3$ for symplectic or split odd special orthogonal groups, based on Tadić's classification. To this end, we develop new algorithms to determine whether a given irreducible representation is of Arthur type and give an inductive approach to classify the family of unitary representations that are of Arthur type. As applications, we carry out the explicit list on representations of Arthur type with corank at most $3$, and classify several new families of representations of Arthur type.

Abstract:Let G be one of the classical groups GL(n), U(n), O(n) or Sp(2n), over a nonarchimedean local field of characteristic zero. It is well known that the contragredient of an irreducible admissible smooth representation of G is isomorphic to a twist of it by an automorphism of G. We prove that similar results hold for double covers of G that occur in the study of local theta correspondences.

Abstract:We study the action of the quantum group $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}_n})$ on the equivariant K-theory of affine Laumon spaces. We show that, at any highest weight away from the critical level, this can be identified with the contragredient dual Verma module of $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}_n})$, improving earlier results of Braverman-Finkelberg and Negu{ţ}. The proof uses a variant of stable envelopes first introduce by Maulik-Okounkov in the study of Nakajima quiver varieties.

Abstract:Let g be a finite dimensional complex simple Lie algebra, and let U=Uq(g) be its quantized enveloping algebra with a triangular decomposition U=U−U0U+. We classify all U-module structures on U0 with the regular action of U0 on itself, which are shown to have direct connections with the q-Weyl algebra and the bounded weight representations. We obtain that the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of such modules is that U has to be of type An(n≥1), Bn(n≥2) or Cn(n≥3). Moreover, we study their module structures and associated weight modules for each type.

Abstract:Global internal symmetries act unitarily on local observables or states of a quantum system. In this note, we aim to generalise this statement to extended observables by considering unitary actions of finite global 2-group symmetries $\mathcal{G}$ on line operators. We propose that the latter transform in unitary 2-representations of $\mathcal{G}$, which we classify up to unitary equivalence. Our results recover the known classification of ordinary 2-representations of finite 2-groups, but provide additional data interpreted as a type of reflection anomaly for $\mathcal{G}$.

Abstract:The unitary $N = 2$ superconformal minimal models have a long history in string theory and mathematical physics, while their non-unitary (and logarithmic) cousins have recently attracted interest from mathematicians. Here, we give an efficient and uniform analysis of all these models as an application of a type of Schur-Weyl duality, as it pertains to the well-known Kazama-Suzuki coset construction. The results include straightforward classifications of the irreducible modules, branching rules, (super)characters and (Grothendieck) fusion rules.

Representation theory of very non-standard quantum $so(2N-1)$

Abstract:We classify the finite dimensional representations of the quantum symmetric pair coideal subalgebra $B_{\mathbf c}$ of type $DII$ corresponding to the symmetric pair $(so(2N),so(2N-1))$. For $B_{\mathbf c}$ defined over an arbitrary field $k$ and $q\in k$ not a root of unity we establish a one-to-one correspondence between finite dimensional, simple $B_{\mathbf c}$-modules and dominant integral weights for $so(2N-1)$. We use specialisation to show that the category of finite dimensional $B_{\mathbf c}$-modules is semisimple if $\mathrm{char}(k)=0$ and $q$ is transcendental over ${\mathbb Q}$. In this case the characters of simple $B_{\mathbf c}$-modules are given by Weyl's character formula. This means in particular that the quantum symmetric pair of type $DII$ can be used to obtain Gelfand-Tsetlin bases for irreducible representations of the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum group $U_q(so(2N))$.

How to determine the local unitary equivalence of sets of generalized Bell states

Abstract:Classification is a common method to study quantum entanglement, and local unitary equivalence (LU-equivalence) is an effective classification tool. The purpose of this work is to show how to determine the LU-equivalence of sets of generalized Bell states (GBSs) in an arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum system $\mathbb{C}^{d}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{d}$ ($d$ is an integer no less than 3). The idea is that, for a given GBS set $\mathcal{M}$, try to find all the GBS sets that are LU-equivalent to $\mathcal{M}$, then we can determine whether another GBS set is LU-equivalent to $\mathcal{M}$ by comparison. In order to accomplish this intention, we first reduce the LU-equivalence of two GBS sets to the unitary conjugate equivalence (UC-equivalence) of two generalized Pauli matrix (GPM) sets. Then we give the necessary and sufficient conditions for a 2-GPM set UC-equivalent to a special 2-GPM set $\{ X^{a}, Z^{b} \}$ ($a, b$ are nonnegative integers and factors of $d$). The general case, that is, the UC-equivalence of two general GPM sets, follows by the particular case. Moreover, these results are programmable, that is, we provide programs that can give all standard GPM sets that are UC-equivalent to a given GPM set, as well as programs that can determine all standard GPM sets that are unitary equivalent (U-equivalent) to a given GPM set, and then the U-equivalence of two arbitrary GPM sets (or LU-equivalence of two GBS sets) can be determined by comparison. To illustrate the role of the programs, we provide two examples, one showing that all 4-GBS sets (58905 items) in $\mathbb{C}^{6}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{6}$ can be divided into 31 LU-equivalence classes, and the other providing a complete LU-equivalent classification of all 4-GBS sets in $\mathbb{C}^{4}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{4}$.

Explicit Hilbert spaces for the unitary dual of rank one orthogonal groups and applications

Abstract:We realize all irreducible unitary representations of the group $\mathrm{SO}_0(n+1,1)$ on explicit Hilbert spaces of vector-valued $L^2$-functions on $\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\}$. The key ingredient in our construction is an explicit expression for the standard Knapp-Stein intertwining operators between arbitrary principal series representations in terms of the Euclidean Fourier transform on a maximal unipotent subgroup isomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^n$. As an application, we describe the space of Whittaker vectors on all irreducible Casselman-Wallach representations. Moreover, the new realizations of the irreducible unitary representations immediately reveal their decomposition into irreducible representations of a parabolic subgroup, thus providing a simple proof of a recent result of Liu-Oshima-Yu.

Abstract:Consider the compact quantum group $U_q(2)$, where $q$ is a non-zero complex deformation parameter such that $|q|\neq 1$. Let $C(U_q(2))$ denote the underlying $C^*$-algebra of the compact quantum group $U_q(2)$. We prove that if $q$ is a non-real complex number and $q^\prime$ is real, then the underlying $C^*$-algebras $C(U_q(2))$ and $C(U_{q^\prime}(2))$ are non-isomorphic. This is in sharp contrast with the case of braided $SU_q(2)$, introduced earlier by Woronowicz et al., where $q$ is a non-zero complex deformation parameter. In another direction, on a geometric aspect of $U_q(2)$, we introduce torus action on the $C^*$-algebra $C(U_q(2))$ and obtain a $C^*$-dynamical system $(C(U_q(2)),\mathbb{T}^3,\alpha)$. We construct a $\mathbb{T}^3$-equivariant spectral triple for $U_q(2)$ that is even and $3^+$-summable. It is shown that the Dirac operator is K-homologically nontrivial.

Abstract:Let $[SU(2n),\mathscr{L}]$ denote the bordism class of $SU(2n)$ $(n\ge 2)$ equipped with the left invariant framing $\mathscr{L}$. Then it is well known that $e_\mathbb{C}([SU(2n), \mathscr{L}])=0$ in $\mathbb{O}/\mathbb{Z}$ where $e_\mathbb{C}$ denotes the complex Adams $e$-invariant. In this note we show that replacing $\mathscr{L}$ by the twisted framing by a specific map it can be transformed into a generator of $\mathrm{Im} \, e_\mathbb{C}$. In addition to that we also show that the same procedure affords an analogous result for a quotient of $SU(2n+1)$ by a circle subgroup which inherits a canonical framing from $SU(2n+1)$ in the usual way.

Abstract:Let v be the right regular representation of a compact quantum group G. Then (<a class="link-external link-http" href="http://S.L.Woronowicz" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>, "Compact quantum groups") v contains all irreducible representations of G and each irreducible representation enters v with the multiplicity equal to its dimension. The result is certainly known for classical compact groups. We give a short survey on the subject and provide a different proof of Woronowicz's result above. The proof is an adaptation of the corresponding result for classical compact groups and provides a concrete decomposition of the right regular representation in irreducible components.

The Schur-Weyl duality and Invariants for classical Lie superalgebras

Abstract:In this article, we provide a comprehensive characterization of invariants of classical Lie superalgebras from the super-analog of the Schur-Weyl duality in a unified way. We establish $\mathfrak{g}$-invariants of the tensor algebra $T(\mathfrak{g})$, the supersymmetric algebra $S(\mathfrak{g})$, and the universal enveloping algebra $\mathrm{U}(\mathfrak{g})$ of a classical Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{g}$ corresponding to every element in centralizer algebras and their relationship under supersymmetrization. As a byproduct, we prove that the restriction on $T(\mathfrak{g})^{\mathfrak{g}}$ of the projection from $T(\mathfrak{g})$ to $\mathrm{U}(\mathfrak{g})$ is surjective, which enables us to determine the generators of the center $\mathcal{Z}(\mathfrak{g})$ except for $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{osp}_{2m|2n}$. Additionally, we present an alternative algebraic proof of the triviality of $\mathcal{Z}(\mathfrak{p}_n)$. The key ingredient involves a technique lemma related to the symmetric group and Brauer diagrams.

The Topology of the Unitary Dual of Crystallography Groups

Abstract:We provide a procedure for generating the irreducible representations of crystallography groups in any dimension. We also furnish a strategy to investigate the topology of the unitary dual of a crystallography group using sequences of matrices. All irreducible representations (up to unitary equivalence) of the dimension 3 crystallography group 90 and some calculations involving sequences of these irreducible representations are included as a proof of concept of this procedure and strategy.

Unitary Designs from Random Symmetric Quantum Circuits

Abstract:In this work, we study distributions of unitaries generated by random quantum circuits containing only symmetry-respecting gates. We develop a unified approach applicable to all symmetry groups and obtain an equation that determines the exact design properties of such distributions. It has been recently shown that the locality of gates imposes various constraints on realizable unitaries, which in general, significantly depend on the symmetry under consideration. These constraints typically include restrictions on the relative phases between sectors with inequivalent irreducible representations of the symmetry. We call a set of symmetric gates semi-universal if they realize all unitaries that respect the symmetry, up to such restrictions. For instance, while 2-qubit gates are semi-universal for $\mathbb{Z}_2$, U(1), and SU(2) symmetries in qubit systems, SU(d) symmetry with $d\ge 3$ requires 3-qudit gates for semi-universality. Failure of semi-universality precludes the distribution generated by the random circuits from being even a 2-design for the Haar distribution over symmetry-respecting unitaries. On the other hand, when semi-universality holds, under mild conditions, satisfied by U(1) and SU(2) for example, the distribution becomes a $t$-design for $t$ growing polynomially with the number of qudits, where the degree is determined by the locality of gates. More generally, we present a simple linear equation that determines the maximum integer $t_{\max}$ for which the uniform distribution of unitaries generated by the circuits is a $t$-design for all $t\leq t_{\max}$. Notably, for U(1), SU(2) and cyclic groups, we determine the exact value of $t_{\max}$ as a function of the number of qubits and locality of the gates, and for SU(d), we determine the exact value of $t_{\max}$ for up to $4$-qudit gates.

Unipotent Ideals and Harish-Chandra Bimodules

Abstract:Let $G$ be a complex reductive algebraic group. In this paper, we give a geometric definition of a unipotent representation of $G$. Our definition generalizes the notion of a special unipotent representation, due to Barbasch-Vogan and Arthur. The representations we define arise from finite equivariant covers of nilpotent co-adjoint $G$-orbits. To each such cover $\tilde{\mathbb{O}}$, we attach a distinguished filtered algebra $\mathcal{A}_0$ equipped with a graded Poisson isomorphism $\mathrm{gr}(\mathcal{A}_0)\simeq \mathbb{C}[\tilde{\mathbb{O}}]$. The algebra $\mathcal{A}_0$ receives a distinguished homomorphism from the universal enveloping algebra $U(\mathfrak{g})$, and the kernel of this homomorphism is a completely prime primitive ideal in $U(\mathfrak{g})$ with associated variety $\overline{\mathbb{O}}$. A unipotent ideal is any ideal in $U(\mathfrak{g})$ which arises in this fashion. A unipotent representation is an irreducible Harish-Chandra bimodule which is annihilated (on both sides) by such an ideal. Our unipotent ideals and representations have all of the expected properties: the unipotent representations attached to $\tilde{\mathbb{O}}$ are parameterized by irreducible representations of a certain finite group (generalizing Lusztig's canonical quotient) and, when restricted to $K$, are of the form conjectured by Vogan. In classical types, all unipotent ideals are maximal, and all unipotent representations are unitary (we expect these properties to hold for arbitrary groups). Finally, all special unipotent representations are unipotent. To prove the last assertion, we introduce a refinement of Barbasch-Vogan-Lusztig-Spaltenstein duality, inspired by the symplectic duality of Braden, Licata, Proudfoot, and Webster.
