Abstract:This article answers the question of V.M. Buchstaber about the growth function of a particular $n$-valued group. This question is closely related to discrete integrable systems. In this paper, we will find a formula for the growth function in the case when $n$ is prime. In addition, we will prove a polynomial asymptotic estimate for the growth function in the general case. Finally, we will pose new problems and hypotheses about growth functions.

Abstract:We study growth of absolute and homological k -dimensional systoles of arithmetic n -manifolds along congruence coverings. Our main interest is in the growth of systoles of manifolds whose real rank r ≥2. We observe, in particular, that in some cases for k = r the growth function tends to oscillate between a power of a logarithm and a power function of the degree of the covering. This is a new phenomenon. We also prove the expected polylogarithmic and constant power bounds for small and large k , respectively.

Abstract:On the set of complex number $\mathbb{C}$ it is possible to define $n$-valued group for any positive integer $n$. The $n$-multiplication defines a symmetric polynomial $p_n = p_n(x, y, z)$ with integer coefficients. By the theorem on symmetric polynomials, one can present $p_n$ as polynomial in elementary symmetric polynomials $e_1$, $e_2$, $e_3$. V.~M.~Buchstaber formulated a question on description coefficients of this polynomial. Also, he formulated the next question: How to describe the Newton polyhedron of $p_n$? In the present paper we find all coefficients of $p_n$ under monomials of the form $e_1^i e_2^j$ and prove that the Newton polyhedron of $p_n$ is an right triangle.

Dynamics of endomorphisms of algebraic groups

Abstract:Let $\sigma$ denote an endomorphism of a smooth algebraic group $G$ over the algebraic closure of a finite field, and assume all iterates of $\sigma$ have finitely many fixed points. Steinberg gave a formula for the number of fixed points of $\sigma$ (and hence of all of its iterates $\sigma^n$) in the semisimple case, leading to a representation of its Artin-Mazur zeta function as a rational function. We generalise this to an arbitrary (smooth) algebraic group $G$, where the number of fixed points $\sigma_n$ of $\sigma^n$ can depend on $p$-adic properties of $n$. We axiomatise the structure of the sequence $(\sigma_n)$ via the concept of a `finite-adelically distorted' (FAD-)sequence. Such sequences also occur in topological dynamics, and our subsequent results about zeta functions and asymptotic counting of orbits apply equally well in that situation; for example, to $S$-integer dynamical systems, additive cellular automata and other compact abelian groups. We prove dichotomies for the associated Artin-Mazur zeta function, and study the analogue of the Prime Number Theorem for the function counting periodic orbits of length $\leq N$. For an algebraic group $G$ we express the error term via the $\ell$-adic cohomological zeta function of $G$.

Abstract:Let $\rm{Mod(S)}$ be the mapping class group of a closed orientable surface $S$ of genus $g \geq 2$. Let $G$ be a non-elementary subgroup of $\rm{Mod(S)}$ so that the associated Bowen-Margulis measure is finite. In this paper, we give an asymptotic growth formula for $G$ with respect to the Teichmüller metric.

Abstract:We study the conjugacy class growth function in finitely generated virtually abelian groups. That is, the number of elements in the ball of radius $n$ in the Cayley graph which intersect a fixed conjugacy class. In the class of virtually abelian groups, we prove that this function is always asymptotically equivalent to a polynomial. Furthermore, we show that in any affine Coxeter group, the degree of polynomial growth of a conjugacy class is equivalent to the reflection length of any element of that class.

Complexity and asymptotics of structure constants

Abstract:Kostka, Littlewood-Richardson, Kronecker, and plethysm coefficients are fundamental quantities in algebraic combinatorics, yet many natural questions about them stay unanswered for more than 80 years. Kronecker and plethysm coefficients lack ``nice formulas'', a notion that can be formalized using computational complexity theory. Beyond formulas and combinatorial interpretations, we can attempt to understand their asymptotic behavior in various regimes, and inequalities they could satisfy. Understanding these quantities has applications beyond combinatorics. On the one hand, the asymptotics of structure constants is closely related to understanding the [limit] behavior of vertex and tiling models in statistical mechanics. More recently, these structure constants have been involved in establishing computational complexity lower bounds and separation of complexity classes like VP vs VNP, the algebraic analogs of P vs NP in arithmetic complexity theory. Here we discuss the outstanding problems related to asymptotics, positivity, and complexity of structure constants focusing mostly on the Kronecker coefficients of the symmetric group and, less so, on the plethysm coefficients. This expository paper is based on the talk presented at the Open Problems in Algebraic Combinatorics coneference in May 2022.

Counting double cosets with application to generic 3-manifolds

Abstract:We study the growth of double cosets in the class of groups with contracting elements, including relatively hyperbolic groups, CAT(0) groups and mapping class groups among others. Generalizing a recent work of Gitik and Rips about hyperbolic groups, we prove that the double coset growth of two Morse subgroups of infinite index is comparable with the orbital growth function. The same result is further obtained for a more general class of subgroups whose limit sets are proper subsets in the entire limit set of the ambient group. As an application, we confirm a conjecture of Maher that hyperbolic 3-manifolds are exponentially generic in the set of 3-manifolds built from Heegaard splitting using complexity in Teichmüller metric.

Abstract:The theory of a two-valued algebraic group structure on a complex plane and complex projective line is developed. In this theory, depending on the choice of the neutral element, the local multiplication law is given by the Buchstaber polynomial or the generalized Kontsevich polynomial. One of the most exciting results of our studies is a simple construction of a two-valued algebraic group on $\mathbb C$ different from known coset-construction.

Abstract:We study the integrable asymmetric $\lambda$-deformations of the $SO(n+1)/SO(n)$ coset models, following the prescription proposed in \cite{AsyLambda}. We construct all corresponding deformed geometries in an inductive way. Remarkably we find a $Z_2$ transformation which maps the asymmetric $\lambda$--deformed models to the symmetric $\lambda$--deformed models.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of $ \mathcal{N} $ = 1 supersymmetric systems consisting of the strongly-coupled superconformal theory T N , SU(N ) gauge groups, and fundamental chiral multiplets. We demonstrate that such systems exhibit familiar phenomena such as deformation of the vacuum moduli space, appearance of the dynamical superpotential, and Coulomb branches with $ \mathcal{N} $ = 1 Seiberg-Witten curves. The analysis requires a rather detailed knowledge of the chiral ring of the T N theory, which will also be discussed at length.

Growth Problems for Representations of Finite Groups

Abstract:We compute (exact and asymptotic) formulas for the growth rate of the number of indecomposable summands in the tensor powers of representations of finite groups, over a field of arbitrary characteristic. In characteristic zero, we obtain in addition a general exact formula for the growth rate and give a complete solution to the growth problems in terms of the character table. We also provide code used to compute our formulas.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of dynamic asymptotic dimension growth for actions of discrete groups on compact spaces, and more generally for locally compact étale groupoids with compact unit space. Using the work of Bartels, Lück, and Reich to bridge our notion for group actions with asymptotic dimension growth for groups, thus providing many concrete examples for our notion. Moreover, we show that the asymptotic dimension growth for a discrete metric space of bounded geometry is equivalent to the dynamic asymptotic dimension growth for its associated coarse groupoid, hence deducing that the coarse groupoid with subexponential dynamic asymptotic dimension growth is amenable. More generally, every $\sigma$-compact locally compact Hausdorff étale groupoid with compact unit space having dynamic asymptotic dimension growth at most $x^{\alpha}$ $(0<\alpha<1)$ is amenable.

Abstract:Coboundary expansion is a high dimensional generalization of the Cheeger constant to simplicial complexes. Originally, this notion was motivated by the fact that it implies topological expansion, but nowadays a significant part of the motivation stems from its deep connection to problems in theoretical computer science such as agreement expansion in the low soundness regime. In this paper, we prove coboundary expansion with non-Abelian coefficients for the coset complex construction of Kaufman and Oppenheim. Our proof uses a novel global argument, as opposed to the local-to-global arguments that are used to prove cosystolic expansion.

Abstract:Let $N\unlhd G$ be a pair of finite subgroups of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$ and $V$ a finite-dimensional fundamental $G$-module. We study Kostant's generating functions for the decomposition of the $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb C)$-module $S^k(V)$ restricted to $N\lhd G$ in connection with the McKay-Slodowy correspondence. In particular, the classical Kostant formula was generalized to a uniform version of the Poincaré series for the symmetric invariants in which the multiplicities of any individual module in the symmetric algebra are completely determined.

Abstract:This paper studies groups and their coset monoids. The anti-abnormal subgroups of a group are firstly introduced and investigated. It is shown that a group is an N ̃ -group if and only if each subgroup of it is anti-abnormal. Also, it is proved that the coset semigroups of N ̃ -groups are exactly the E -reflexive inverse semigroups which are factorisable and the natural connection between their semilattice of idempotents and lattice of subgroups of their group of units is a dual isomorphism. Finally, some characterizations of the coset semigroups of S -groups ( U -groups and residually central groups respectively) are given. This extends McAlister's result in 1980.
