Abstract:Consider a quasi-linear system of two Klein–Gordon equations with masses m1, m2. We prove that when m1≠2m2 and m2≠2m1, such a system has global solutions for small, smooth, compactly supported Cauchy data. This extends a result proved by Sunagawa (J. Differential Equations 192 (2) (2003) 308) in the semi-linear case. Moreover, we show that global existence holds true also when m1=2m2 and a convenient null condition is satisfied by the nonlinearities.

We show that for this problem, under the known sufficient second-order optimality conditions, the set of Lagrange multipliers can be replaced by a smaller set.

Abstract:In this paper, we present an optimality condition which could determine whether a given KKT solution is globally optimal. This condition is equivalent to determining if the Hessian of the corresponding Largrangian is copositive over a set. To find the corresponding Lagrangian multiplier, two linear conic programming problems are constructed and then relaxed for computational purpose. Under the new condition, we proposed a local search based scheme to find a global optimal solution and showed its effectiveness by three examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose two new methods for solving mixed quasi variational inequalities by using the resolvent operator technique. Under certain conditions, the global convergence of the both methods is proved. The skew-symmetry of the nonlinear bifunction plays a crucial part in the convergence analysis of these new iterative methods. The comparison of these methods with other methods for solving the mixed quasi variational inequalities is an open interesting problem.

Abstract:We study the solvability of the second boundary value problem of the Lagrangian mean curvature equation arising from special Lagrangian geometry. By the parabolic method, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of the smooth uniformly convex solution, which generalizes the Brendle–Warren's theorem about minimal Lagrangian diffeomorphism in Euclidean metric space.

Abstract:We derive local boundedness estimates for weak solutions of a large class of second order quasilinear equations. The structural assumptions imposed on an equation in the class allow vanishing of the quadratic form associated with its principal part and require no smoothness of its coefficients. The class includes second order linear elliptic equations as studied by D. Gilbarg and N. S. Trudinger [1998] and second order subelliptic linear equations as studied by E. Sawyer and R. L. Wheeden [2006 and 2010]. Our results also extend ones obtained by J. Serrin [1964] concerning local boundedness of weak solutions of quasilinear elliptic equations.

Abstract:We study nonconvex homogeneous quadratically constrained quadratic optimization with one or two constraints, denoted by (QQ1) and (QQ2), respectively. (QQ2) contains (QQ1), trust region subproblem (TRS) and ellipsoid regularized total least squares problem as special cases. It is known that there is a necessary and sufficient optimality condition for the global minimizer of (QQ2). In this paper, we first show that any local minimizer of (QQ1) is globally optimal. Unlike its special case (TRS) with at most one local non-global minimizer, (QQ2) may have infinitely many local non-global minimizers. At any local non-global minimizer of (QQ2), both linearly independent constraint qualification and strict complementary condition hold, and the Hessian of the Lagrangian has exactly one negative eigenvalue. As a main contribution, we prove that the standard second-order sufficient optimality condition for any strict local non-global minimizer of (QQ2) remains necessary. Applications and the impossibility of further extension are discussed.

Abstract:We construct global-in-time solutions for semilinear parabolic rough partial differential equations. We work on a scale of Banach spaces tailored to the controlled rough path approach and derive suitable a-priori estimates of the solution which do not contain quadratic terms.

Abstract:In this note, we prove interior a priori first‐ and second‐order estimates for solutions of fully nonlinear degenerate elliptic inequalities structured over the vector fields of Carnot groups, under the main assumption that u is semiconvex along the fields. These estimates for supersolutions are new even for linear subelliptic inequalities in nondivergence form, whereas in the nonlinear setting they do not require neither convexity nor concavity on the second derivatives. We complement the analysis exhibiting an explicit example showing that horizontal W2,q regularity of Calderón–Zygmund type for fully nonlinear subelliptic equations posed on the Heisenberg group cannot be in general expected in the range q

Abstract:We study an equation $Qu=g$, where $Q$ is a continuous quadratic operator acting from one normed space to another normed space. Obviously, if $u$ is a solution of such equation then $-u$ is also a solution. We find conditions implying that there are no other solutions and apply them to the study of the Dirichlet boundary value problem for the partial differential equation $u\Delta u =g$.
