Abstract:This short note is an announcement of results. We continue the study of Yangian-type algebras initiated in the paper <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2208.04809" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2208.04809">arXiv:2208.04809</a>. These algebras share a number of properties of the Yangians of type A but are more massive. We refine and substantially enlarge the construction of that paper. A direct link with the class of linear double Poisson brackets on the free associative algebras (Pichereau and Van de Weyer, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math/0701837" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math/0701837">arXiv:math/0701837</a>) is also established.

Abstract:Let A and B be graded algebras in the same variety of trace algebras, such that A is a finite-dimensional, central simple power associative algebra (in the ordinary sense). Over a field K of characteristic zero, we study sufficient conditions that ensure B to be a graded subalgebra of A . More precisely, we prove, under additional hypotheses, that there is a graded and trace-preserving embedding from B to A over some associative and commutative K -algebra C if and only if B satisfies all G -trace identities of A over K. As a consequence of these results, we give a geometric interpretation of our main theorem under the context of graded algebras, and we apply them beyond the Cayley–Hamilton algebras presented in [24, 29]. Such results open a wide range of opportunities to study geometry in Jordan and alternative algebras (with trivial grading).

A unified approach to some rigidity and stability problems in algebra

Abstract:In this note, we use give some algebraic applications of a previous result by the author which compares the deformations parameterized by the Maurer-Cartan elements of a differential graded Lie algebra, and a differential graded Lie subalgebra: It gives a criterion for the map on the space of Maurer-Cartan elements up to gauge equivalence, induced by the inclusion of the subalgebra, to be locally surjective. By making appropriate choices for the differential graded Lie algebra and a differential graded Lie subalgebra, we recover some classical results in the deformation theory of finite-dimensional Lie and associative algebras. We consider rigidity of Lie and associative algebras, Lie algebra morphisms, and give a quick proof of the fact that the deformation theories of a unital associative algebra as a unital associative algebra and as an associative algebra are equivalent. We then turn to stability of Lie subalgebras and their morphisms under deformations of the ambient Lie algebra structure, and study when the compatibility with a geometric structure of a representation of a Lie algebra on a vector space is stable under deformations of the representation.

Abstract:The concept of relation algebra unifies many familiar notions from algebra (especially those of systems having “natural” models as groups, Boolean algebras etc.). The fundamental theorem on relation algebras asserts the existence of simple conditions which characterize any given class of relation algebras.The idea of relation algebra is very useful for the study of function and transformation semigroups, which is the central part of the theory of semigroups. It provides a general outlook, permits one to formulate many natural problems, and ensures that these problems possess non-trivial solutions. A number of examples illustrate this point.

Abstract:We show the failure of a matricial version of Grothendieck's theorem for operator spaces, thereby resolving a long-standing open question in the field. Moreover, by showing that such a counterexample can occur in the simplest context of commutative $C^*$-algebras, we address some other open questions in operator algebras. Our constructions, completely explicit and fairly simple, are inspired by some techniques in quantum information theory.

Abstract:C*-algebras are widely used in mathematical physics to represent the observables of physical systems, and are sometimes taken as the starting point for rigorous formulations of quantum mechanics and classical statistical mechanics. Nevertheless, in many cases the naive choice of an algebra of observables does not admit a C*-algebra structure, and some massaging is necessary. In this paper we investigate what properties of C*-algebras carry over to more general algebras and what modifications of the Gelfand theory of normed algebras are necessary. We use category theory as a guide and, by replacing the ordinary definition of the Gelfand spectrum with a manifestly functorial definition, we succeed in generalizing the Gelfand-Naimark theorem to locally convex *-algebras. We also recall a little-known but potentially very useful generalization of the Stone-Weierstrass theorem to completely regular, Hausdorff spaces.

Abstract:Motivated by the sharp contrast between classical and quantum physics as probability theories, in these lecture notes I introduce the basic notions of operator algebras that are relevant for the algebraic approach to quantum physics. Aspects of the representation theory of C*-algebras will be motivated and illustrated in physical terms. Particular emphasis will be given to explicit examples from the theory of quantum phase transitions, where concepts coming from strands as diverse as quantum information theory, algebraic quantum physics and statistical mechanics agreeably converge, providing a more complete picture of the physical phenomena involved.

Abstract:This article, addressed to a general audience of functional analysts, is intended to be an illustration of a few basic principles from `noncommutative functional analysis', more specifically the new field of {\em operator spaces.} In our illustration we show how the classical characterization of (possibly non-surjective) isometries between function algebras generalizes to operator algebras. We give some variants of this characterization, and a new proof which has some advantages.

On the classification of function algebras on subvarieties of noncommutative operator balls

Abstract:We study algebras of bounded noncommutative (nc) functions on unit balls of operator spaces (nc operator balls) and on their subvarieties. Considering the example of the nc unit polydisk we show that these algebras, while having a natural operator algebra structure, might not be the multiplier algebra of any reasonable nc reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS). After examining additional subtleties of the nc RKHS approach, we turn to study the structure and representation theory of these algebras using function theoretic and operator algebraic tools. We show that the underlying nc variety is a complete invariant for the algebra of uniformly continuous nc functions on a homogeneous subvariety, in the sense that two such algebras are completely isometrically isomorphic if and only if the subvarieties are nc biholomorphic. We obtain extension and rigidity results for nc maps between subvarieties of nc operator balls corresponding to injective spaces that imply that a biholomorphism between homogeneous varieties extends to a biholomorphism between the ambient balls, which can be modified to a linear isomorphism. Thus, the algebra of uniformly continuous nc functions on nc operator balls, and even its restriction to certain subvarieties, completely determine the operator space up to completely isometric isomorphism.

We consider smooth rings with trivial K-0 as a natural generalisation of commutative regular local rings.
