Abstract:The Jones-Wenzl projectors play a central role in quantum topology, underlying the construction of SU(2) topological quantum field theories and quantum spin networks. We construct chain complexes whose graded Euler characteristic is the "classical" projector in the Temperley-Lieb algebra. We show that they are homotopy idempotents and uniquely defined up to homotopy. Our results fit within the general framework of Khovanov's categorification of the Jones polynomial. Consequences of our construction include families of knot invariants corresponding to higher representations of quantum su(2) and a categorification of quantum spin networks. We introduce 6j-symbols in this context.

Abstract:The Jones-Wenzl projectors are particular elements of the Temperley-Lieb algebra essential to the construction of quantum 3-manifold invariants. As a first step toward categorifying quantum 3-manifold invariants, Cooper and Krushkal categorified these projectors. In another direction, Naisse and Putyra gave a categorification of the Temperley-Lieb algebra compatible with odd Khovanov homology, introducing new machinery called grading categories. We provide a generalization of Naisse and Putyra's work in the spirit of Bar-Natan's canopolies or Jones's planar algebras, replacing grading categories with grading multicategories. We use our setup to prove the existence and uniqueness of categorified Jones-Wenzl projectors in odd Khovanov homology. This result quickly implies the existence of a new, "odd" categorification of the colored Jones polynomial.

Abstract:We describe algebraically, diagrammatically and in terms of weight vectors, the restriction of tensor powers of the standard representation of quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ to a coideal subalgebra. We realise the category as module category over the monoidal category of type $\pm1$ representations in terms of string diagrams and via generators and relations. The idempotents projecting onto the quantized eigenspaces are described as type $B/D$ analogues of Jones--Wenzl projectors. As an application we introduce and give recursive formulas for analogues of $\Theta$-networks.

Abstract:By studying a categorification of the antisymmetriser quasi-idempotent in the Hecke algebra, we derive a closed formula for the Jones-Wenzl idempotent in the Temperley-Lieb algebra. In particular, we show that when the idempotent is expressed in terms of the monomial basis, the coefficients are the graded ranks of certain indecomposable Soergel modules. Equivalently, the coefficients can be expressed as a ratio of certain Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. Similar results are obtained for generalised Jones-Wenzl idempotents in other types.

Abstract:Lowest weight representations of the ${\mathbb Z}_2 \otimes {\mathbb Z}_2$ graded superalgebra introduced by Rittenberg and Wyler are investigated. We give a explicit construction of Verma modules over the ${\mathbb Z}_2 \otimes {\mathbb Z}_2$ graded superalgebra and show their reducibility by using singular vectors. The explicit formula of singular vectors are given and are used to derive partial differential equations invariant under the color supergroup generated by the ${\mathbb Z}_2 \otimes {\mathbb Z}_2$ graded superalgebra.

Abstract:The Jones--Wenzl projections are a special class of elements of the Temperley--Lieb algebra. We prove that the coefficient appearing in the Jones--Wenzl projection is given by a generating function of combinatorial objects, called Dyck tilings. We also show that this correspondence holds for type $B$ case.

Abstract:This preprint comprises the first four out of five chapters of the Master's thesis I wrote 2022 under the supervision of Catharina Stroppel and Paul Wedrich at the University of Bonn titled "Categorified Jones-Wenzl projectors and Generalizations". Chapter 1 can serve as introductory literature for researchers or graduate students familiar with Schur-Weyl duality between the symmetric group and the general linear Lie algebra or their quantum counter parts, and who are seeking to learn a type B/D analogue of the famous type A story. Chapter 1 serves as an introduction to the type B combinatorics and blob-diagrammatics. Chapters 2,3, and 4 contain proofs of three main theorem each - the first one is an explicit/computational proof of the easiest case of quantum coideal Schur-Weyl duality involving non-trivial quantizations of weight spaces, the second one shows the generalization of Jones-Wenzl projectors to the type B Temperley-Lieb algebra and the third one uses generalized Reidemeister moves and a functional analytic argument to prove a version of the fact that powers of the type D full-twist converge towards the type D Jones-Wenzl projector.

Abstract:We present a method of defining projectors in the virtual Temperley-Lieb algebra, that generalizes the Jones-Wenzl projectors in Temperley-Lieb algebra. We show that the projectors have similar properties with the Jones-Wenzl projectors, and contain an extra property which is associated with the virtual generator elements, that is, the product of a projector with a virtual generator is unchanged. We also show the uniqueness of the projector $f_n$ in terms of its axiomatic properties in the virtual Temperley-Lieba algebra $VTL_n(d)$. Finally, we find the coefficients of $f_n$ and give an explicit formula for the projector $f_n$.

Abstract:We construct and study a lift of Jones-Wenzl projectors to the setting of Khovanov spectra, and provide a realization of such lifted projectors via a Cooper-Krushkal-like sequence of maps. We also give a polynomial action on the 3-strand spectral projector allowing a complete computation of the 3-colored Khovanov spectrum of the unknot, proving a conjecture of Lobb-Orson-Schütz. As a byproduct, we disprove a conjecture of Lawson-Lipshitz-Sarkar on the topological Hochschild homology of tangle spectra.

Abstract:We provide descriptions for the moduli spaces $\text{Rep}(\Gamma, PU(m))$, where $\Gamma$ is any finitely generated abelian group and $PU(m)$ is the group of $m\times m$ projective unitary matrices. As an application we show that for any connected CW-complex $X$ with $\pi_1(X)\cong \mathbf{Z}^n$, the natural map $\pi_0(\text{Rep}(\pi_1(X), PU(m)))\to [X, BPU(m)]$ is injective, hence providing a complete enumeration of the isomorphism classes of flat principal $PU(m)$-bundles over $X$.

Endotrivial modules for the quaternion group and iterated Jokers in chromatic homotopy theory

Abstract:The algebraic Joker module was originally described in the 1970s by Adams and Priddy and is a $5$-dimensional module over the subHopf algebra $\mathcal{A}(1)$ of the mod $2$ Steenrod algebra. It is a self-dual endotrivial module, i.e., an invertible object in the stable module category of $\mathcal{A}(1)$. Recently it has been shown that no analogues exist for $\mathcal{A}(n)$ with $n>1$. Using iterated doubling this also gives an iterated double which is an $\mathcal{A}(n)$-module but not stably invertible. In previous work the author showed that for $n=1,2,3$ these iterated doubles were realisable as cohomology of CW spectra, but no such realisation existed for $n>3$. The main point of the paper is to show that in the height $2$ chromatic context, the Morava $K$-theory of double Jokers realise an exceptional endotrivial module over the quaternion group of order $8$ that only exists over a field of characteristic $2$ containing a primitive cube root of unity. This has connections with certain Massey products in the cohomology of the quaternion group.

Abstract:We introduce a family of modules for the quantum affine algebra which include as very special cases both the snake modules and the modules arising from a monoidal categorification of cluster algebras. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for these modules to be prime and prove a unique factorization result. We also give an explicit formula expressing the module as an alternating sum of Weyl modules. Finally, we give an application of our results to classical questions in the category $\mathcal{ O}(\mathfrak{gl}_r)$. Specifically we apply our results to show that there are a large family of non-regular, non-dominant weights $\mu$ for which the non-zero Kazhdan-Lusztig coefficients $c_{\mu, \nu}$ are $\pm 1$.

Abstract:This paper initiates the study of invariants of links associated to infinite-dimensional representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ using graphical representation for quantum $6j$-symbols, the shadow world. We obtain formulae for $q3j$-symbols and $q6j$-symbols for Verma modules and study their properties. This hints at the structure of the possible target category for Reshetikhin-Turaev functor for such an invariant.

Abstract:The present paper continues the work of [2]. For any symmetrizable generalized Cartan Matrix $C$ and the corresponding quantum group $\mathbf{U}$, we consider the associated quiver $Q$ with an admissible automorphism $a$. We construct the category $\widetilde{\mathcal{Q}/\mathcal{N}}$ of the localization of Lusztig sheaves for the quiver with the automorphism. Its Grothendieck group gives a realization of the integrable highest weight $\mathbf{U}-$module $\Lambda_{\lambda}$, and modulo the traceless ones Lusztig sheaves provide the (signed) canonical basis of $\Lambda_{\lambda}$. As an application, the symmetrizable crystal structures on Nakajima's quiver varieties and Lusztig's nilpotent varieties of preprojective algebras are deduced.

Projective representations of Hecke groups from Topological quantum field theory

Abstract:We construct projective (unitary) representations of Hecke groups from the vector spaces associated with the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev topological quantum field theory of higher genus surfaces. In particular, we generalize the modular data of Temperley-Lieb-Jones modular categories. We also study some properties of the representation. We show the image group of the representation is infinite at low levels in genus $2$ by explicit computations. We also show the representation is reducible with at least three irreducible summands when the level equals $4l+2$ for $l\geq 1$.

Abstract:We construct an element, which we call the Kirillov projector, that connects the topics of the title: on the one hand, it is defined using the Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}_N$, on the other hand, it gives a canonical projection onto the space of Whittaker vectors for any Whittaker module over the mirabolic subalgebra. Using the Kirillov projector, we deduce some categorical properties of Whittaker modules, for instance, we prove a mirabolic analog of Skryabin's theorem. We also show that it quantizes a rational version of the Cremmer-Gervais $r$-matrix. As application, we construct a universal vertex-IRF transformation from the standard dynamical $R$-matrix to this constant one in categorical terms.
