Abstract:already present. Antibiotics should be given routinely to those with poor chest movements or poor lung function at the onset of a chest infection. Oxygen or air given by a positivepressure respirator, such as the Bird Mark VII Respirator, may improve older patients in whom carbon dioxide retention is present. But perhaps as important is the general supportive care and moral support which some patients need. Many of them are severely handicapped. Most of those who are severely affected seem glad to remain under the supervision of a clinic. They are most co-operative patients and deserve our aid. PHILLIP ZORAB REFERENCES I . Bergovsky, E.
