Abstract:In this study, to explore the deterioration mechanism of the surrounding rock-ining by the thermal effect of conflagrations, sandstone-concrete bi-materials with various rough interfaces were produced employing three-dimensional scanning and engraving techniques. Uniaxial compression experiments were performed on bi-materials heat-treated from 25°C to 800°C. Combined with acoustic emission (AE) and digital image correlation (DIC) methods, the coupling effects of interface roughness and treatment temperature on mechanical behavior and fracture characteristics were revealed. The findings show that the mechanical parameters present the "U" change of reducing and then growing with the increase of roughness, which is more noticeable at 25°C and 200°C than 400–800°C. The mechanical parameters continuously reduce with increasing temperature. Internal defects in the specimen increase as the temperature nears 400°C. At 800°C, developed microcracks are discovered in sandstone, concrete, and the intermediate interface. Furthermore, failure modes at 25–200°C and 800°C are predominated by tensile and shear failure, respectively. At 400–600°C, the failure mode shifts progressively from tensile to mixed tensile-shear failure as the roughness increases.
