Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

Abstract:In this article, we study $m$-order logarithmic Laplacian $\mathcal{L}_m$, which is a singular integro-differential operator with symbol $\big(2\ln |\cdot|\big)^m$ by the Fourier transform. With help of these logarithmic Laplacians, we build the $n$-th order Taylor expansion for fractional Laplacian with respect to the order and the Riesz operators: for $u \in C^\infty_c(\mathbb{R}^N)$ and $x \in \mathbb{R}^N$, $$ (-\Delta)^s u (x) = u(x) + \sum^{n}_{m=1} \frac{s^m}{m!}\mathcal{L}_mu(x) + o(s^n) \quad {\rm as}\ \, s\to 0^+ $$ and $$ \big(\Phi_s\ast u\big)(x) = u(x) + \sum^{n}_{m=1}(-1)^m\frac{s^m}{m!}\mathcal{L}_mu(x) + o(s^n) \quad {\rm as}\ \, s\to 0^+, $$ where $ (-\Delta)^s$ is the $s$-fractional Laplacian, $\Phi_s\ast u$ is $s$-order of Riesz operator with the form $\Phi_s(x)=\kappa_{N,s}|x|^{2s-N}$ in $\mathbb{R}^N\setminus\{0\}$. Moreover, we analyze qualitative properties of these operators based on the order $m$, such as basic regularity and the Dirichlet eigenvalues.

Abstract:We introduce and study the logarithmic $p$-Laplacian $L_{\Delta_p}$, which emerges from the formal derivative of the fractional $p$-Laplacian $(-\Delta_p)^s$ at $s=0$. This operator is nonlocal, has logarithmic order, and is the nonlinear version of the newly developed logarithmic Laplacian operator. We present a variational framework to study the Dirichlet problems involving the $L_{\Delta_p}$ in bounded domains. This allows us to investigate the connection between the first Dirichlet eigenvalue and eigenfunction of the fractional $p$-Laplacian and the logarithmic $p$-Laplacian. As a consequence, we deduce a Faber-Krahn inequality for the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of $L_{\Delta_p}$. We discuss maximum and comparison principles for $L_{\Delta_p}$ in bounded domains and demonstrate that the validity of these depends on the sign of the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of $L_{\Delta_p}$. In addition, we prove that the first Dirichlet eigenfunction of $L_{\Delta_p}$ is bounded. Furthermore, we establish a boundary Hardy-type inequality for the spaces associated with the weak formulation of the logarithmic $p$-Laplacian.

Abstract:Let $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^d$ be a bounded domain and let $\lambda_1, \lambda_2, \dots$ denote the sequence of eigenvalues of the Laplacian subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions. We consider inequalities for $\lambda_n$ that are independent of the domain $\Omega$. A well--known such inequality follows from the Berezin--Li--Yau approach. The purpose of this paper is to point out a certain degree of flexibility in the Li--Yau approach. We use it to prove a new type of two-point inequality which are strictly stronger than what is implied by Berezin-Li-Yau itself. For example, when $d=2$, one has $ 2 \lambda_n + \lambda_{2n} \geq 10 \pi n/|\Omega|.$

Abstract:In this study, the bounds for eigenvalues of the Laplacian operator on an L-shaped domain are determined. By adopting some special functions in Goerisch method for lower bounds and in traditional Rayleigh-Ritz method for upper bounds, very accurate bounds to eigenvalues for the problem are obtained. Numerical results show that these functions can also be successfully used to solve the problem on the region with other reentrant angle.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with upper bounds of eigenvalues of Laplace operator on compact Riemannian manifolds and finite graphs. While on the former the Laplace operator is generated by the Riemannian metric, on the latter it reflects combinatorial structure of a graph. Respectively, eigenvalues have many applications in geometry as well as in combinatorics and in other fields of mathematics. We develop a universal approach to upper bounds on both continuous and discrete structures based upon certain properties of the corresponding heat kernel. This approach is perhaps much more general than its realization here. Basically, we start with the following entries: 1◦ an underlying space M with a finite measure μ; 2◦ a well-defined Laplace operator ∆ on functions on M so that ∆ is a self-adjoint operator in L(M,μ) with a discrete spectrum; 3◦ if M has a boundary, then the boundary condition should be chosen so that it does not disrupt self-adjointness of ∆ and is of dissipative nature; 4◦ a distance function dist(x, y) on M so that |∇dist| ≤ 1 for an appropriate notion of gradient.

Abstract:This article studies the Dirichlet eigenvalue problem for the Laplacian equations Δu =-λ u, χ∈ Ω, u=0, δ∈Ω, where Ω ⊂ Rn is a smooth bounded convex domain. By using the method of appropriate barrier function combined with the maximum principle, authors obtain a sharp lower bound of the difference of the first two eigenvalues for the Dirichlet eigenvalue problem. This study improves the result of S.T. Yau et al.

Abstract:For the magnetic Laplacian on a bounded planar domain, imposing Neumann boundary conditions produces eigenvalues below the lowest Landau level. If the domain has two boundary components and one imposes a Neumann condition on one component and a Dirichlet condition on the other, one gets fewer such eigenvalues than when imposing Neumann boundary conditions on the two components. We quantify this observation for two models: the strip and the annulus. In both models one can separate variables and deal with a family of fiber operators, thereby reducing the problem to counting band functions, the eigenvalues of the fiber operators.

Abstract:Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, we establish explicit bounds in the $q$-aspect for the logarithmic derivative $\left(L'/L\right)\left(\sigma,\chi\right)$ of Dirichlet $L$-functions, where $\chi$ is a primitive character modulo $q\geq 10^{30}$ and $1/2+1/\log{\log{q}}\leq\sigma\leq 1-1/\log\log q$. In addition, for $\sigma=1$ we improve upon the result by Ihara, Murty and Shimura (2009). Similar results for the logarithmic derivative of the Riemann zeta-function are given.

Abstract:We study the limit of first eigenfunctions of (discrete) p-Laplacian on a finite subset of a graph with Dirichlet boundary condition, as p -> 1. We prove that up to a subsequence, they converge to a summation of characteristic functions of Cheeger cuts of the graph. We give an example to show that the limit may not be a characteristic function of a single Cheeger cut.

Abstract:Let $M$ be a complete Riemannian manifold. Let $P_{x,y}(M)$ be the space of continuous paths on $M$ with fixed starting point $x$ and ending point $y$. Assume that $x$ and $y$ is close enough such that the minimal geodesic $c_{xy}$ between $x$ and $y$ is unique. Let $-L_{\lambda}$ be the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator with the Dirichlet boundary condition on a small neighborhood of the geodesic $c_{xy}$ in $P_{x,y}(M)$. The underlying measure $\bar{\nu}^{\lambda}_{x,y}$ of the $L^2$-space is the normalized probability measure of the restriction of the pinned Brownian motion measure on the neighborhood of $c_{xy}$ and $\lambda^{-1}$ is the variance parameter of the Brownian motion. We show that the generalized second lowest eigenvalue of $-L_{\lambda}$ divided by $\lambda$ converges to the lowest eigenvalue of the Hessian of the energy function of the $H^1$-paths at $c_{xy}$ under the small variance limit (semi-classical limit) $\lambda\to\infty$.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the Dirichlet problem of logarithmic Laplacian equations and systems on unbounded regions. We first establish new narrow region principles for the logarithmic Laplacian equation and system in coercive epigraphs separately. Then by using the direct method of moving planes, we obtain a monotonicity result for the solutions of logarithmic Laplacian equations and a Liouville-type theorem for solutions of logarithmic Laplacian systems in coercive epigraphs.

Abstract:Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, we provide uniform upper and lower bounds with explicit main terms for $\log{\left|\mathcal{L}(s)\right|}$ for $\sigma \in (1/2,1)$ and for functions in the Selberg class. We also provide estimates under additional assumptions on the distribution of Dirichlet coefficients of $\mathcal{L}(s)$ on prime numbers. Moreover, by assuming a polynomial Euler product representation for $\mathcal{L}(s)$, we establish both uniform bounds, and completely explicit estimates by assuming also the strong $\lambda$-conjecture.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to address some questions concerning boundary value problems related to the Laplacian and bi-Laplacian operators, set in the framework of classical $H^s$ Sobolev spaces on a bounded Lipschitz domain of R^N. These questions are not new and a lot of work has been done in this direction by many authors using various techniques since the 80's. If for regular domains almost every thing is elucidated, it is not the case for Lipschitz ones and for $s$ of the form $s = k + 1/2$, with $k$ integer. It is well known that this framework is delicate. Even in these cases many results are well established but sometimes not satisfactory. Several questions remain posed. Our main goal through this work is on one hand to give some improvements to the theory and on another one by using techniques which do not require too intricate calculations. We also tried to obtain maximal regularity for the solutions and as far as we can optimality of the results.

For an interval $I\subseteq [0, n]$, denote by $m_GI$ the number of Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ in $I$, counted with multiplicity. When $G$ is connected, known results on the Laplacian eigenvalue distribution related to the diameter $d$ of $G$ include: $m_G[n-d+2,n]\le n-d$ if $2\le d\le n-3$ and $m_G[n-d+1,n]\le n-d+1$ if $1\le d\le n-3$.
