Abstract:We introduce the the fractional Laplacian on a subgraph of a graph with Dirichlet boundary condition. For a lattice graph, we prove the upper and lower estimates for the sum of the first $k$ Dirichlet eigenvalues of the fractional Laplacian, extending the classical results by Li-Yau and Kröger.

Abstract:We first investigate the lower bound for higher eigenvalues λ _i of the Laplace operator on a bounded domain and obtain a sharp lower bound. Then, we extent this estimate of the eigenvalues to general cases. Finally, we study the eigenvalues Γ _i for the clamped plate problem and deliver a sharp bound for the clamped plate problem for arbitrary dimension.

Abstract:Nowadays a great attention has been focused on the discrete fractional Laplace operator as the natural counterpart of the continuous one. In this paper, we discretize the fractional Laplace operator $(-\Delta)^{s}$ for an arbitrary finite graph and any positive real number $s$. It is shown that $(-\Delta)^{s}$ can be explicitly represented by eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator $-\Delta$. Moreover, we study its important properties, such as $(-\Delta)^{s}$ converges to $-\Delta$ as $s$ tends to $1$; while $(-\Delta)^{s}$ converges to the identity map as $s$ tends to $0$ on a specific function space. For related problems involving the fractional Laplace operator, we consider the fractional Kazdan-Warner equation and obtain several existence results via variational principles and the method of upper and lower solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with upper bounds of eigenvalues of Laplace operator on compact Riemannian manifolds and finite graphs. While on the former the Laplace operator is generated by the Riemannian metric, on the latter it reflects combinatorial structure of a graph. Respectively, eigenvalues have many applications in geometry as well as in combinatorics and in other fields of mathematics. We develop a universal approach to upper bounds on both continuous and discrete structures based upon certain properties of the corresponding heat kernel. This approach is perhaps much more general than its realization here. Basically, we start with the following entries: 1◦ an underlying space M with a finite measure μ; 2◦ a well-defined Laplace operator ∆ on functions on M so that ∆ is a self-adjoint operator in L(M,μ) with a discrete spectrum; 3◦ if M has a boundary, then the boundary condition should be chosen so that it does not disrupt self-adjointness of ∆ and is of dissipative nature; 4◦ a distance function dist(x, y) on M so that |∇dist| ≤ 1 for an appropriate notion of gradient.

Abstract:In this study, the bounds for eigenvalues of the Laplacian operator on an L-shaped domain are determined. By adopting some special functions in Goerisch method for lower bounds and in traditional Rayleigh-Ritz method for upper bounds, very accurate bounds to eigenvalues for the problem are obtained. Numerical results show that these functions can also be successfully used to solve the problem on the region with other reentrant angle.

To obtain them, we borrow the approach of Illias and Makhoul, and use a generalized Chebyshev's inequality.

Abstract:For the fractional Laplace equation, a surprising observation is the non-uniqueness for the basic Dirichlet type problems. In this paper, a somewhat sharp uniqueness condition for the fractional Laplace equation is established. We derive the $L^p$-estimate for fractional Laplacian operators to better understand this phenomena. Several weighted fractional Sobolev spaces appear naturally. We then establish the embedding relations between these spaces. These existence-uniqueness conditions and the spaces we introduce here are intrinsically related to the fractional Laplacian. These are basic properties to the fractional Laplace equations and can be useful in the study of related problems.

Abstract:Under the assumption that a self-similar measure defined by a one-dimensional iterated function system with overlaps satisfies a family of second-order self-similar identities introduced by Strichartz et al., we obtain a method to discretize the equation defining the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the corresponding fractal Laplacian. This allows us to obtain numerical solutions by using the finite element method. We also prove that the numerical eigenvalues and eigenfunctions converge to the true ones, and obtain estimates for the rates of convergence. We apply this scheme to the fractal Laplacians defined by the well-known infinite Bernoulli convolution associated with the golden ratio and the 3-fold convolution of the Cantor measure. The iterated function systems defining these measures do not satisfy the open set condition or the post-critically finite condition; we use second-order self-similar identities to analyze the measures.

Abstract:In this paper, we first define a discrete version of the fractional Laplace operator $(-\Delta)^{s}$ through the heat semigroup on a stochastically complete, connected, locally finite graph $G = (V, E, \mu, w)$. Secondly, we define the fractional divergence and give another form of $(-\Delta)^s$. The third point, and the foremost, is the introduction of the fractional Sobolev space $W^{s,2}(V)$, which is necessary when we study problems involving $(-\Delta)^{s}$. Finally, using the mountain-pass theorem and the Nehari manifold, we obtain multiplicity solutions to a discrete fractional Schrödinger equation on $G$. We caution the readers that though these existence results are well known in the continuous case, the discrete case is quite different.

Abstract:This paper is dedicated to L^p bounds on eigenfunctions of aSchödinger-type operator (-Δ_g)^α/2 +V on closed Riemannianmanifolds for critically singular potentials V. The operator(-Δ_g)^α/2 is defined spectrally in terms of the eigenfunctionsof -Δ_g. We obtain also quasimodes and spectral clusters estimates. Asan application, we derive Strichartz estimates for the fractional wave equation(∂_t^2+(-Δ_g)^α/2+V)u=0. The wave kernel techniquesrecently developed by Bourgain-Shao-Sogge-Yao and Shao-Yao play a key role inthis paper. We construct a new reproducing operator with several localoperators and some good error terms. Moreover, we shall prove that these localoperators satisfy certain variable coefficient versions of the "uniform Sobolevestimates" by Kenig-Ruiz-Sogge. These enable us to handle the criticallysingular potentials V and prove the quasimode estimates.

Abstract:We study the eigenvalues of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator on a finite subgraph of the integer lattice symbolscript We estimate the first symbolscript + 1 eigenvalues using the number of vertices of the subgraph. As a corollary, we prove that the first non-trivial eigenvalue of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator tends to zero as the number of vertices of the subgraph tends to infinity.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the fractional logarithmic Schrödinger equation $$ (-\Delta)^{s} u+h(x) u=u \log u^{2} $$ on lattice graphs $\mathbb{Z}^d$, where $s\in (0,1)$. If $h(x)$ is a bounded periodic potential, we prove the existence of ground state solution by mountain pass theorem and Lions lemma. If $h(x)$ is a coercive potential, we show the existence of ground state sign-changing solutions by the method of Nehari manifold.

Abstract:For the eigenvalue problem of the Dirichlet Laplacian on a bounded domain in Euclidean space R-n, we obtain estimates for the upper bounds of the gaps between consecutive eigenvalues which are the best possible in terms of the orders of the eigenvalues. Therefore, it is reasonable to conjecture that this type of estimate also holds for the eigenvalue problem on a Riemannian manifold. We give some particular examples.

The consideration of such operators is motivated by the study of corresponding results on Gaussian Lipschitz spaces. Abstract:In this paper, we discuss an efficient numerical method to obtain all solutions of fractional Gelfand equation with Dirichlet boundary condition. More precisely, we derive a good initial value motivated by the bifurcation curve of fractional Gelfand equation. It is obvious to see that the number of solutions depends on the value of parameter in fractional Gelfand equation. By collocation technique and finite difference method, numerical solutions can be found very quickly based on Newton iteration method with the aid of such initial guess. Numerical simulation for one-dimensional fractional Gelfand equation are provided, which demonstrates the accuracy and easy-to-implement of our algorithm.
