Abstract:We give generating sets of the Jacobson radical of the hyperalgebra of the $r$-th Frobenius kernel of the algebraic group ${\rm SL}_2$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. This result generalizes earlier work by Wong for $r=1$ and odd $p$.

Abstract:We construct the $H$-von Neumann regular radical for $H$-module algebras and show that it is an $H$-radical property. We obtain that the Jacobson radical of twisted graded algebra is a graded ideal. For twisted $H$-module algebra $R$, we also show that $r_{j}(R#_\sigma H)= r_{Hj}(R)#_\sigma H$ and the Jacobson radical of $R$ is stable, when $k$ is an algebraically closed field or there exists an algebraic closure $F$ of $k$ such that $r_j(R \otimes F) = r_j(R) \otimes F$, where $H$ is a finite-dimensional, semisimple, cosemisimple, commutative or cocommutative Hopf algebra over $k$. In particular, we answer two questions J.R.Fisher asked.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the following non-linear generalization of the classical Sylvester-Gallai theorem. Let $\mathbb{K}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$, and $\mathcal{F}=\{F_1,\cdots,F_m\} \subset \mathbb{K}[x_1,\cdots,x_N]$ be a set of irreducible homogeneous polynomials of degree at most $d$ such that $F_i$ is not a scalar multiple of $F_j$ for $i\neq j$. Suppose that for any two distinct $F_i,F_j\in \mathcal{F}$, there is $k\neq i,j$ such that $F_k\in \mathrm{rad}(F_i,F_j)$. We prove that such radical SG configurations must be low dimensional. More precisely, we show that there exists a function $\lambda : \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{N}$, independent of $\mathbb{K},N$ and $m$, such that any such configuration $\mathcal{F}$ must satisfy $$ \dim (\mathrm{span}_{\mathbb{K}}{\mathcal{F}}) \leq \lambda(d). $$ Our result confirms a conjecture of Gupta [Gup14, Conjecture 2] and generalizes the quadratic and cubic Sylvester-Gallai theorems of [S20,OS22]. Our result takes us one step closer towards the first deterministic polynomial time algorithm for the Polynomial Identity Testing (PIT) problem for depth-4 circuits of bounded top and bottom fanins. Our result, when combined with the Stillman uniformity type results of [AH20a,DLL19,ESS21], yields uniform bounds for several algebraic invariants such as projective dimension, Betti numbers and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of ideals generated by radical SG configurations.

Abstract:We compute generators and relations for the basic algebra of a non-semisimple singular block of the restricted enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>3$. Working directly with the basic algebra we compute its centre and the internal degree zero part of its first Hochschild cohomology, and show its Verma modules are Koszul.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a ring, $\sigma$ be an automorphism of $R$, and $D$ be a $\sigma$-derivation on $R$. We will show that if $R$ is an algebra over a field of characteristic $0$ and $D$ is $q$-skew, then $J(R[x;\sigma,D])=I\cap R+I_0$ where $I=\{r\in R : rx\in J(R[x;\sigma,D])\}$ and $I_0=\{\sum_{i\geq 1}r_ix^i: r_i\in I\}$. We will prove that $J(R[x;\sigma,D])\cap R$ is nil if $\sigma$ is locally torsion and one of the following conditions is given: (1) $R$ is a PI-ring, (2) $R$ is an algebra over a field of characteristic $p>0$ and $D$ is a locally nilpotent derivation such that $\sigma D=D\sigma$. This answers partially an open question by Greenfeld, Smoktunowicz and Ziembowski.

Abstract:We present rational Schur algebra $S(n,r,s)$ over an arbitrary ground field $K$ as a quotient of the distribution algebra $Dist(G)$ of the general linear group $G=GL(n)$ by an ideal $I(n,r,s)$ and provide an explicit description of the generators of $I(n,r,s)$. Over fields $K$ of characteristic zero, this corrects and completes a presentation of $S(n,r,s)$ in terms of generators and relations originally considered by Dipper and Doty. The explicit presentation over ground fields of positive characteristics appears here for the first time.

Abstract:As an alternative to Chevalley generators, we introduce Jacobson generators for the quantum superalgebra $U_q[sl(n+1|m)]$. The expressions of all Cartan-Weyl elements of $U_q[sl(n+1|m)]$ in terms of these Jacobson generators become very simple. We determine and prove certain triple relations between the Jacobson generators, necessary for a complete set of supercommutation relations between the Cartan-Weyl elements. Fock representations are defined, and a substantial part of this paper is devoted to the computation of the action of Jacobson generators on basis vectors of these Fock spaces. It is also determined when these Fock representations are unitary. Finally, Dyson and Holstein-Primakoff realizations are given, not only for the Jacobson generators, but for all Cartan-Weyl elements of $U_q[sl(n+1|m)]$.

Abstract:We find finite, reasonably small, generator sets of the coordinate rings of G-character varieties of finitely generated groups for all classical groups G. This result together with the method of Grobner basis gives an algorithm for describing character varieties by explicit polynomial equations. Additionally, we describe finite sets of generators of the fields of rational functions on G-character varieties for all exceptional algebraic groups G.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field and let $X$ be an irreducible subvariety of $G^r$ with $r \geqslant 2$. In this paper, we consider the general problem of determining if there exists a tuple $(x_1, \ldots, x_r) \in X$ such that $\langle x_1, \ldots, x_r \rangle$ is Zariski dense in $G$. We are primarily interested in the case where $X = C_1 \times \cdots \times C_r$ and each $C_i$ is a conjugacy class of $G$ comprising elements of prime order modulo the center of $G$. In this setting, our main theorem gives a complete solution to the problem when $G$ is a symplectic or orthogonal group. By combining our results with earlier work on linear and exceptional groups, this gives a complete solution for all simple algebraic groups. We also present several applications. For example, we use our main theorem to show that many faithful representations of symplectic and orthogonal groups are generically free. We also establish new asymptotic results on the probabilistic generation of finite simple groups by pairs of prime order elements, completing a line of research initiated by Liebeck and Shalev over 25 years ago.

Abstract:Algebra Colloquium, Volume 31, Issue 02, Page 209-220, June 2024. We develop and study the generalization of rational Schur algebras to the super setting. Similar to the classical case, this provides a new method for studying rational supermodules of the general linear supergroup [math]. Furthermore, we establish a Schur-Weyl duality result for rational Schur superalgebras and conclude that under certain conditions these objects will be semisimple.

Abstract:This paper studies $B(r)$, the space of $r$-tuples of $2 \times 2$ complex matrices that generate $\operatorname{Mat}_{2 \times 2}(\mathbf C)$ as an algebra, considered up to change-of-basis. We show that $B(2)$ is homotopy equivalent to $S^1 \times^{\mathbf Z/2\mathbf Z} S^2$. For $r>2$, we determine the rational cohomology of $B(r)$ for degrees less than $4r-6$. As an application, we use the machinery of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2012.07900" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2012.07900">arXiv:2012.07900</a> to prove that for all natural numbers $d$, there exists a ring $R$ of Krull dimension $d$ and a degree-$2$ Azumaya algebra $A$ over $R$ that cannot be generated by fewer than $2\lfloor d/4 \rfloor + 2$ elements.

Abstract:Abstract We consider semicrossed products of the disk algebra with respect to endomorphisms defined by finite Blaschke products. We characterize the Jacobson radical of these operator algebras. Furthermore, in the case that the finite Blaschke product is elliptic, we show that the semicrossed product contains no nonzero quasinilpotent elements. However, if the finite Blaschke product is hyperbolic or parabolic with positive hyperbolic step, the Jacobson radical is nonzero and a proper subset of the set of quasinilpotent elements.

Abstract:Let G be a two generator subgroup of PSL(2,C). The Jorgensen number J(G) of G is defined by J(G)=inf{ |tr^2 A-4|+|tr[A,B]-2| ; G=<A,B>}. If G is a non-elementary Kleinian group, then J(G) >= 1. This inequality is called Jorgensen's inequality. In this paper, we show that, for any r >= 1, there exists a non-elementary Kleinian group whose Jorgensen number is equal to r. This answers a question posed by Oichi and Sato. We also present our computer generated picture which estimates Jorgensen numbers from above in the diagonal slice of Schottky space.

On the stable radical of the module category for special biserial algebras

Abstract:Suppose $\Lambda$ is a special biserial algebra over an algebraically closed field. Schröer showed that if $\Lambda$ is domestic then the radical of the category of finitely generated (left) $\Lambda$-modules is nilpotent, and the least ordinal, denoted $\mathrm{st}(\Lambda)$, where the decreasing sequence of powers of the radical stabilizes satisfies $\mathrm{st}(\Lambda)<\omega^2$. With Gupta and Sardar, the third author conjectured that if $\Lambda$ has at least one band then $\omega\le\mathrm{st}(\Lambda)<\omega^2$ even when $\Lambda$ is non-domestic. In this paper we settle this conjecture in the affirmative. We also describe an algorithm to compute $\mathrm{st}(\Lambda)$ up to a finite error. We also show that for each $\omega\leq\alpha<\omega^2$ there is a finite-dimensional tame representation type algebra $\Gamma$ with $\mathrm{st}(\Gamma)=\alpha$.

Rationality of the Local Jacquet-Langlands Correspondence for GL(n)

Abstract:We relate the field of definition of representations $\sigma$ of the group of units $D^\times$ of a non-archimedean division algebra $D/F$ to that of its L-parameter $\varphi_\sigma\colon W_F\to \mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb C)$, extending results of [Prasad-Ramakrishnan]. The field of definitions are controlled by division algebras $\mathcal D_{\sigma}$ and $\mathcal D_{\varphi_\sigma}$ over the field of rationality $\mathbb Q(\pi)$, and we completely pin down the relationship between the Hasse invariants at places not over $p$. Under some additional assumptions we can also specify the Hasse invariants at places over $p$.
