Abstract:The available data on elastic scattering at the LHC at large momentum transfer $t$ in the range $0.05 <|t|<1.0~\mathrm{GeV}^{2}$ have been analyzed in terms of possible oscillating structures. A clearly significant structure is seen in the data from the TOTEM collaboration at 13 TeV. Data measured by the same collaboration at 2.76~TeV, 7~TeV and 8~TeV are not statistically significant to confirm or reject the observation at~13 TeV. More data are needed to understand if the effect is real or an experimental artefact

Abstract:The ATLAS and TOTEM collaborations have measured the differential elastic cross section at centre-of mass energy $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV and at small four-moment squared $|t|$. The data at very small $|t|$ i.e. $|t|<0.01GeV^{2}$ have been analysed in terms of so called AKM (Auberson, Kinoshita and Martin) oscillations. An indication of a possible oscillation of this type had previously been reported at $\sqrt{s}$=541 GeV using data from the UA4/2 experiment. There are no such indications in the data at 13 TeV examined here.

Abstract:A gradual transition to the reflecting scattering mode developing already at the LHC energies is affecting multiparticle production dynamics, in particular, relation of the centrality with the impact parameter values of $pp$--collisions. We discuss the issues in the framework of the geometrical picture for the multiparticle production processes proposed by Chou and Yang. We consider effects of reflective scattering mode presence for the inclusive cross-sections.

New properties of elastic $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ scattering at high energies

Abstract:Data-driving determination of the new properties of elastic scattering at small angles on the basis on all existing experimental data for $d\sigma/dt$ of $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ at $\sqrt{s} \geq 540$ GeV allows us to obtain the main characteristics of the nonstandard terms of the elastic scattering amplitude. It was shown that the oscillation term has a different sign for $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ reactions; hence, it is part of the Odderon amplitude. The energy dependence of the oscillation term and the term with an extremely large slope is determined. The period of the oscillation term agrees with the scaling properties predicted by the Auberson - Kinoshita - Martin (AKM) theorem. The high quality quantitative description of all data at $\sqrt{s} \geq 540$ GeV in the framework of the HEGS model supports such a phenomenon which can be connected with peripheral hadron interaction.

Abstract:In the framework of the Regge-eikonal model of hadron interaction, based on the analyticity of the scattering amplitude with taking into account the hadron structure, the simultaneous analysis is carried out of the 90 sets of data. These sets include the data obtained at low energies ($\sqrt{s} > 3.6 $ GeV and at high energies at FNAL, ISR, $S\bar{p}pS$, TEVATRON and LHC with 4326 experimental points, including the polarization data of analysing power. The energy and momentum transfer dependence of separate sets of data is analyzed on the basis of the eikonalized Born amplitude with taking into account two additional anomalous terms. Different origins of the nonlinear behavior of the slope of the scattering amplitude are compared. No contribution of hard-Pomeron in the elastic hadron scattering is shown. However, the importance of Odderon's contribution is presented. The form and energy dependence of different terms of the cross-even and cross-odd parts of the elastic nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitude is determined in the framework of the High Energy Generalize Structure (HEGS) model. In the framework of the HEGS model, using the electromagnetic and gravitomagnetic form factors, the differential cross sections in the Coulomb Nuclear Interference (CNI) region and at large momentum transfer are described well in a wide energy region simultaneously. It is shown that the cross-even part includes the soft pomeron growing like $\ln^{2}(s)$ and an additional term with a large slope and with and with energy dependence $\ln^2(s)$. The cross-odd part includes the maximal odderon term and an additional oscillation term with $\ln(s)$. It is shown that both additional terms are proportional to charge distributions but the maximal odderon term is proportional to matter distributions.

Abstract:The properties of the diffractive peak observed in the mass spectra of systems recoiling against observed high-momentum protons emerging from pp collisions at the CERN ISR have been investigated. The cross sections in this peak have been found to have a steep t dependence which flattens out as |t| increases. The high mass side of the peak varies approximately as 1/M2 (where M is the missing mass of the recoiling system) and scales well in terms of the variable M2/s. The position of the maximum has been observed to move to lower values of M2/s as the kinematic boundary of this variable decreases with increasing s. The measured cross sections, integrated up to M2/s=0.05, rise by (15±5)% over the s range 549 to 1464 GeV2.

Unitarity effects in elastic scattering at the LHC

Abstract:We study the high-energy behavior of the elastic scattering amplitude using two distinct unitarization schemes: the eikonal and the $U$-matrix. Our analysis begins with a formalism involving solely Pomerons, incorporating pion-loop insertions in the Pomeron trajectory representing the nearest singularity generated by $t$-channel unitarity. Subsequently, we explore a scenario that includes the presence of an Odderon. In our analyses, we explore the tension between the TOTEM and the ATLAS measurements for $\sigma_{tot}$ and $d\sigma/dt$ at 7, 8, and 13 TeV, and the subsequent implications for the properties of both the Pomeron and Odderon. Our results show that the Odderon phase factor $\xi_{\Bbb O}= -1$ is favored in both unitarization schemes, supporting an Odderon with a phase opposite to that of other crossing-odd components of the scattering amplitude. More interestingly, this specific phase factor stands as the sole one that aligns with results consistent with a non-zero Odderon coupling.

Observation of Odderon Effects at LHC energies -- A Real Extended Bialas-Bzdak Model Study

Abstract:The unitarily extended Bialas-Bzdak model of elastic proton-proton scattering is applied, without modifications, to describe the differential cross-section of elastic proton-antiproton collisions in the TeV energy range, and to extrapolate these differential cross-sections to LHC energies. In this model-dependent study we find that the differential cross-sections of elastic proton-proton collision data at 2.76 and 7 TeV energies differ significantly from the differential cross-section of elastic proton-antiproton collisions extrapolated to these energies. The elastic proton-proton differential cross-sections, extrapolated to 1.96 TeV energy with the help of this extended Bialas-Bzdak model do not differ significantly from that of elastic proton-antiproton collisions, within the theoretical errors of the extrapolation. Taken together these results provide a model-dependent, but statistically significant evidence for a crossing-odd component of the elastic scattering amplitude at the at least 7.08 sigma level. From the reconstructed Odderon and Pomeron amplitudes, we determine the $\sqrt{s}$ dependence of the corresponding total and differential cross-sections.

Abstract:The recent measurements of the elastic cross section by the TOTEM Collaboration together with the first estimations of the inelastic cross sections by other LHC detectors are used to test the simplest version of the geometrical model of the proton-proton scattering. We show that the description found for lower energy data, with the modest adjustment of the model parameter extrapolation, could be, in principle, used to describe the LHC measurement and to predict the cross sections in very high energy cosmic ray domain. However, the shape of the first elastic dip in the elastic differential scattering cross section suggests that ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the elastic amplitude is falling rather fast and the analysis of the elastic cross section fraction suggests that the geometrical picture of the proton-proton collision should be modified considerably when entering the ultra high-energy domain.

Abstract:We describe data on elastic $pp$ scattering at ISR and LHC energies using the analytical representation of the amplitude as the sum of three exponentials equipped with complex phases. In addition, we take into account the Coulomb and Coulomb-nuclear contributions in the entire transfer region and strong "perturbative" contributions in the large transfer region. Refined values of basic scattering characteristics are obtained. Significant changes in the behavior of the amplitude are detected at the transition from ISR to LHC energies. The results obtained indicate a two-layer structure of the colliding protons. In the transition to 13 TeV, a sharp increase in the size of the inner layer and its activity in the scattering is observed. A possible interpretation of this effect is discussed.

Abstract:The measurements of proton-proton elastic scattering for large momentum transfer at energies in the range $\approx$ 20 to 60 GeV show a simple behaviour of form $d \sigma/dt \approx {\rm const}~|t|^{-8}$, apparently with no energy dependence. In the present work detailed analysis of the data shows a decrease of the magnitude of the tail with the energy, still with preservation of the power $|t|^{-8}$. The analysis allows the definition of a band for the energy dependence with the form of a power of the strong coupling $\alpha_S^{1.57}$. The rate of decrease describes very well the data at the distant energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV, with reduction of the cross section by a factor 5.71. This result gives prediction for new experiments at high energies, and opens important question for theoretical investigation.

Abstract:Total and differential cross sections for high energy and small momentum transfer elastic hadron-hadron scattering are studied in QCD using a functional integral approach. The hadronic amplitudes are governed by vacuum expectation values of lightlike Wegner-Wilson loops, for which a matrix cumulant expansion is derived. The cumulants are evaluated within the framework of the Minkowskian version of the model of the stochastic vacuum. Using the second cumulant, we calculate elastic differential cross sections for hadron-hadron scattering. The agreement with experimental data is good.

Evidence of Odderon-exchange from scaling properties of elastic scattering at TeV energies

Abstract:We study the scaling properties of the differential cross section of elastic proton-proton ($pp$) and proton-antiproton ($p\bar p$) collisions at high energies. We introduce a new scaling function, that scales -- within the experimental errors -- all the ISR data on elastic $pp$ scattering from $\sqrt{s} = 23.5$ to $62.5$ GeV to the same universal curve. We explore the scaling properties of the differential cross-sections of the elastic $pp$ and $p\bar p$ collisions in a limited TeV energy range. Rescaling the TOTEM $pp$ data from $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV to $2.76$ and $1.96$ TeV, and comparing it to D0 $p\bar p$ data at $1.96$ TeV, our results provide an evidence for a $t$-channel Odderon exchange at TeV energies, with a significance of at least 6.26$\sigma$. We complete this work with a model-dependent evaluation of the domain of validity of the new scaling and its violations. We find that the $H(x)$ scaling is valid, model dependently, within $200$ GeV $ \leq \sqrt{s} \leq$ $ 8$ TeV, with a $-t$ range gradually narrowing with decreasing colliding energies.

Abstract:We perform the analysis of elastic scattering $pp$ and $\bar{p}p$ data at low momentum transfer $|t|<0.1$ GeV$^2$ within large collider energy interval $\sqrt{s}=50$ GeV - 13 TeV in order to evaluate quantitatively the possible Odderon contribution.
