Abstract:T. Mostowski showed that every (real or complex) germ of an analytic set is homeomorphic to the germ of an algebraic set. In this paper we show that every (real or complex) analytic function germ, defined on a possibly singular analytic space, is topologically equivalent to a polynomial function germ defined on an affine algebraic variety.

Abstract:On Riemann surfaces $M$, there exists a canonical correspondence between a possibly multivalued function $\Psi_X$ whose differential is single valued ($i.e.$ an additively automorphic singular complex analytic function) and a vector field $X$. From the point of view of vector fields, the singularities that we consider are zeros, poles, isolated essential singularities and accumulation points of the above. The theory of singularities of the inverse function $\Psi_X^{-1}$ is extended from meromorphic functions to additively automorphic singular complex analytic functions. The main contribution is a complete characterization of when a singularity of $\Psi_X^{-1}$ is either algebraic, logarithmic or arises from a zero with nonzero residue of $X$. Relationships between analytical properties of $\Psi_X$, singularities of $\Psi_X^{-1}$ and singularities of $X$ are presented. Families and sporadic examples showing the geometrical richness of vector fields on the neighbourhoods of the singularities of $\Psi_X^{-1}$ are studied. As applications we have; a description of the maximal univalence regions for complex trajectory solutions of a vector field $X$, a geometric characterization of the incomplete real trajectories of a vector field $X$, and a description of the singularities of the vector field associated to the Riemann $\xi$ function.

Abstract:This is the abstract prepared for Workshop on Topology and Geometry (Zhang jiang, China, October 1994), and is a review of my recent works. What kinds of combinations of singularities can appear in small deformation fibers of a fixed singularity? We consider this problem for hypersurface singularities on complex analytic spaces of dimension 2. For all singularities in the beginning par t of Arnold's classification list, the answer to this problem is given by a unique principle described by Dynkin graphs. Abstract:A germ of normal complex analytical surface is called a Hirzebruch-Jung singularity if it is analytically isomorphic to the germ at the 0-dimensional orbit of an affine toric surface. Two such germs are known to be isomorphic if and only if the toric surfaces corresponding to them are equivariantly isomorphic. We extend this result to higher-dimensional Hirzebruch-Jung singularities, which we define to be the germs analytically isomorphic to the germ at the 0-dimensional orbit of an affine toric variety determined by a lattice and a simplicial cone of maximal dimension. We deduce a normalization algorithm for quasi-ordinary hypersurface singularities.

Abstract:This paper contributes to the theory of singularities of meromorphic linear ODEs in traceless $2\times2$ cases, focusing on their deformations and confluences. It is divided into two parts: The first part addresses individual singularities without imposing restrictions on their type or degeneracy. The main result establishes a correspondence between local formal invariants and jets of meromorphic quadratic differentials. This result is then utilized to describe the parameter space of universal isomonodromic deformation of meromorphic $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$-connections over Riemann surfaces. The second part examines the confluence of singularities in a fully general setting, accommodating all forms of degeneracies. It explores the relationship between the geometry of the unfolded Stokes phenomenon and the horizontal and vertical foliations of parametric families of quadratic differentials. The local moduli space is naturally identified with a specific space of local monodromy and Stokes data, presented as a space of representations of certain fundamental groupoids associated with the foliations. This is then used for studying degenerations of isomonodromic deformations in parametric families.

Abstract:Suppose that F:(Rn×Rd,0)→(Rp×Rd,0) is a smoothly stable, Rd-level preserving germ which unfolds f:(Rn,0)→(Rp,0); then f is smoothly stable if and only if we can find a pair of smooth retractions r:(Rn+d,0)→(Rn,0) and s:(Rp+d,0)→(Rp,0) such that f∘r=s∘F. Unfortunately, we do not know whether f will be topologically stable if we can find a pair of continuous retractions r and s.The class of extremely tame (E-tame) retractions, introduced by du Plessis and Wall, are defined by their nice geometric properties, which are sufficient to ensure that f is topologically stable.In this article, we present the E-tame retractions and their relation with topological stability, survey recent results by the author concerning their construction, and illustrate the use of our techniques by constructing E-tame retractions for certain germs belonging to the E- and Z-series of singularities.

Abstract:The decomposition of a two dimensional complex germ with non-isolated singularity into semi-algebraic sets is given. This decomposition consists of four classes: Riemannian cones defined over a Seifert fibered manifold, a topological cone over thickened tori endowed with Cheeger-Nagase metric, a topological cone over mapping torus endowed with Hsiang-Pati metric and a topological cone over the tubular neighbourhoods of the link's singularities. In this decomposition there exist semi-algebraic sets that are metrically conical over the manifolds constituting the link. The germ is reconstituted up to bi-Lipschitz equivalence to a model describing its geometric behavior.

Abstract:Two subset germs of Euclidean spaces are called blow-spherically equivalent, if their spherical modifications are homeomorphic and the homeomorphism induces homeomorphic tangent links. Blow-spherical equivalence is stronger than the topological equivalence but weaker than the Lipschitz equivalence. We introduce the thin-thick decomposition of an isolated singularity germ - which happens to be a natural blow-spherical invariant. This decomposition is a generalization of the thin-thick decomposition of normal complex surface singularity germs introduced in [7]

Abstract:This paper considers some algebraic surfaces that can deform to planar Zappatic stable surfaces with a unique singularity of type En. We prove that the Galois covers of these surfaces are all simply connected of general type, for n >= 4, and we give a formula for Chern numbers of such Galois covers. As an application, we prove that such surfaces do not exist for n>30. Furthermore, Kollar improves the result to n>9 in Appendix 5.

Abstract:The singularity space consists of all germs $(X,x)$, with $X$ a Noetherian scheme and $x$ a point, where we identify two such germs if they become the same after an analytic extension of scalars. This is a Polish space for the metric given by the order to which infinitesimal neighborhoods, or jets, agree after base change. In other words, the classification of singularities up to analytic extensions of scalars is a smooth problem in the sense of descriptive set-theory. Over $\mathbb C$, the following two classification problems up to isomorphism are now smooth: (i) analytic germs; and (ii) polarized schemes.

Abstract:Let X_o be a weighted-homogeneous complete intersection germ in (R^N,o) or (C^N,o), with arbitrary singularities, possibly non-reduced. Take the foliation of the ambient space by weighted-homogeneous real arcs, \ga_s. Take a deformation of X_o by higher order terms, X_t. Does the foliation \ga_s deform compatibly with X_t? We identify the ``obstruction locus", \Sigma in X_o, outside of which such a deformation does exist, and possesses exceptionally nice properties. Using this deformed foliation we construct a contact trivialization of the family of defining equations by a homeomorphism that is real analytic (resp. Nash) off the origin, differentiable at the origin, whose presentation in weighted-polar coordinates is globally real-analytic (resp. globally Nash), and with controlled Lipschitz/C^1-properties.

We prove that for , the corresponding curve of the pencil does not have the generic topology if and only if either the corresponding curve of the pulled-back pencil to the normalized surface has a non generic topology or w is a limit value for the function along the singular locus of , where f and g are generators of the pencil.

Abstract:Definition 0. Let V be a Stein analytic space with x as its only singular point. Let 7r: M -V be a resolution of the singularity of V. We shall denote dim H1(M, 9), 1 < i < n 1 by h(i), and dim Hq(M, UP) for 1 ? p < n, 1 < q < n by hP,q(M). So far as the classification problem is concerned, h (n-i) is one of the most important invariants. In this paper, we shall introduce a bunch of invariants (cf. Definition 2.6, Definition 4.1, and Definition 5.1) which are naturally attached to isolated singularities. These invariants are used to characterize the different notions of sheaves of germs of holomorphic differential forms on analytic spaces. Various formulae which relate all these invariants are proved. We also show how to calculate these invariants explicitly. Our paper is organized as follows. In section 2 we discuss the relationship between three different kinds of sheaves of germs of holomorphic forms introduced by Grauert-Grothendieck, Noether and Ferrari respectively, and the dualizing sheaf on a complex analytic space which admits only isolated singularities. We remark that the torsion sheaf of the sheaf of germs of holomorphic p-forms in the sense of Grauert-Grothendieck was studied by Brieskorn [9], Greuel [48], Kantor [19], Suzuki [38], Vetter [39] and the author [43]. Abstract:We give a sufficient condition for the existence of a holomorphic tubular neighborhood of a compact Riemann surface holomorphically embedded in a non-singular complex surface. Our sufficient condition is described by an arithmetical condition of unitary flat line bundles which can be regarded as an analogue of the Brjuno condition for irrational numbers which appears in the theory of 1-variable complex dynamics.

Abstract:We study one parameter deformations of a pair consisting of an analytic singular space $X_0$ and a function $f_0$ on it, in case this defines an isolated singularity. We prove, under general conditions, a bouquet decomposition of the Milnor fibre when the isolated singularity splits in the deformation and the invariance of the Milnor fibration if there is no splitting.

Locally Trivial Deformations of Toric Varieties

Abstract:We study locally trivial deformations of toric varieties from a combinatorial point of view. For any fan $\Sigma$, we construct a deformation functor $\mathrm{Def}_\Sigma$ by considering Čech zero-cochains on certain simplicial complexes. We show that under appropriate hypotheses, $\mathrm{Def}_\Sigma$ is isomorphic to $\mathrm{Def}'_{X_\Sigma}$, the functor of locally trivial deformations for the toric variety $X_\Sigma$ associated to $\Sigma$. In particular, for any complete toric variety $X$ that is smooth in codimension $2$ and $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial in codimension $3$, there exists a fan $\Sigma$ such that $\mathrm{Def}_\Sigma$ is isomorphic to $\mathrm{Def}_X$, the functor of deformations of $X$. We apply these results to give a new criterion for a smooth complete toric variety to have unobstructed deformations, and to compute formulas for higher order obstructions, generalizing a formula of Ilten and Turo for the cup product. We use the functor $\mathrm{Def}_\Sigma$ to explicitly compute the deformation spaces for a number of toric varieties, and provide examples exhibiting previously unobserved phenomena. In particular, we classify exactly which toric threefolds arising as iterated $\mathbb{P}^1$-bundles have unobstructed deformation space.

Abstract:Trivially-acting symmetries in two-dimensional conformal field theory include twist fields of dimension zero which are local topological operators. We investigate the consequences of regarding these operators as part of the global symmetry of the theory. That is, we regard such a symmetry as a mix of topological defect lines (TDLs) and topological point operators (TPOs). TDLs related by a trivially-acting symmetry can join at a TPO to form non-trivial two-way junctions. Upon gauging, the local operators at those junctions can become vacua in a disjoint union of theories. Examining the behavior of the TPOs under gauging therefore allows us to refine decomposition by tracking the trivially-acting symmetries of each universe. Mixed anomalies between the TDLs and TPOs provide discrete torsion-like phases for the partition functions of these orbifolds, modifying the resulting decomposition. This framework also readily allows for the consideration of trivially-acting non-invertible symmetries.
